I am planning on starting my first lot, a station for the NAM raised heavy rail puzzle piece set. I want it to be 3x1 tiles, just like the default el-rail and monorail stations. I intend to model it in sketch up pro, and export that model to gmax. What I would like to know are

a. can textures applied in sketch up transfer to gmax?

b. what are the dimensions I  need to build the model to to fit in that tile size, and match with the rail hight.

c. How go I get the model from gmax into the game?

and...

d. How do I set up the paths for the trains to go across in UDI and for automata

a.  When exporting from sketchup (in the 3ds format) the textures I don't think are saved in the file and you must retexture the model in bat (or 3ds max if you use that).  Be aware that there may be problems with normal Alignment, which I don't know how to fix in gmax, except to check double sided texture when working on the textures.

b. 16 meters wide, 48 meters long, and I think that the rail is 14 to 16 meters high, but someone check me on that because I'm not sure.

c. You need to download the Bat tool off of the simcity website >> bat (sorry can't get a direct link 15.gif)

d. This I do not know, but I would hope that it would do it itself when you apply the transit enabled pieces to it.

Happy Batting!

    Thanks for the quick reply.

for question d, can you explain what a transit enabled piece is, and how that works? I have never done any of this before.

A transit piece is one that allows for roads, rail, etc to go on it.  If you open up the monorail station in lot editor you'll see that the tiles have a strange colour.  This indicates that it is transit enabled.  Also, notice that in the game you can drag a monorail track across the station, this also indicates that it's transit enabled.  Some other lots include the el station, grand rail station and the road ferry.  To put TE pieces up you need to use the sc4 tool or ilive's reader (the first is much easier to use, but I don't think it works with the nam pieces...)  You can download both in the modding section of simtropolis. 19.gif
