demand down the drain

I would really appreciate any advice about this plummeting demand problem I keep having. It seems after I reach a population of about 800,000 to a million, residential and commercial just go down the drain. And now my IHT is going down. It has never, ever done that before. This city of about a million people is connected to an all IHT/IM city with about 100,000 industry thingys. Anyways, I've never had this kind of demand that I will show you here. Any advice would be great! Thanks!

Have you built all rewards? Do you have an airport? Are there neighbor connections besides the one you mentioned? Are your Sims healthy and educated? Is your crime rate under control?

If you can answer yes to all of the above, then just build what there is demand for.

There's nothing magical about hitting one million population in SC4 so it is probably a new plugin. Also, check education and health civic buildings to ensure that they aren't overloaded. Also, trying plopping some parks and perhaps a pollution cleanser (if you don't already have one plopped) and that'll help restore some growth.

So here's another example of demand just plummetting.

joabezscratch: I have the Air Purifier Lot  and that has been stabilizing population ever since I've gotten it. My hospitals and school buildings are great as well.

It could be a new plug-in ... I've been downloading some transportation ones, such as an all in one metro station. And is it unusual to be making like $50,000+ each month? I dunno, but my cities are beginning to act strange .... maybe I should get rid of some plug-ins. Sigh.

Interesting.  What does your desirability display look like?

mostly green, except for some monorail lines, the country club, and some random patches of red.

Be sure you have a save, and delete the country club.  If things don't change soon after that, quit without saving which puts you back to where you started.

You can perform other experiments of this nature, and you might find something.

One thing I see missing from your pictures is and extensive bus and subway system. Give them bus and subways at all major intersections and I bet you would see improvements. Of cource you have to interconnect them with all other cities.

Sorry about that . I didn't recgnize your red and white blue and white objects as bus and subway stations since I have never seen those before. Ok next step. What is your mayorial rating at? There is a set of parking lots that if you use a lot of them they will put your mayorial rate in the dumps. I almost go broke using tons of parks and plaza's everywhere. In your pictures I see room for parks and trees.

hmm. my mayor rating is always in the green. its just missing one bar. and i havent used any parking lots (like ploppable) right? im thinking it could be one of my plug-ins. i've recently added that subway/bus station one and then this all-in-one train/bus/subway/garage thing. im wondering if its just my cities. but it just seems to happen so often. i've already taken out my opera houses, which caused my population to soar back up once i got rid of em. but could this problem be due to too many rewards?? because i have the rewards cheat and i usually place em down whenever i feel like it. usually no more than liek 5/6 per city though. ...

You mustn't place the opera house without the Opera House Fix.

You should wait for your "Rewards" that is why they are called Rewards.

I suggest if you have any NIMBY lots near your residental that you remove them. The Country Club is a waste of space and money.Goodluck

so i got rid all my country clubs. i checked desirability= green all over. major rating = highest it can be. air pollution = almost non existent. population still seems to hover around the million mark, but all the bars are still completely down. very strange. not many buildings are being abandoned though. mass transit is excellent ... im making like $40 grand each month on it. the next door city is worth about 110,000 industrial jobs (IHT/IM). so im not sure what's going on... i think i'll play it for a while again and see what goes on.

N_O_body: i dont have any opera houses. i decided on not placing them. but i have lots of art museums? but they arent overcrowded. dunno if that has anything to do with this issues.

    thanks guys!
