Unstable SC4 deluxe: Could use some help deciphering crash messages

I've been running SC4 deluxe edition (WITHOUT the universal binary patch) on my Mac Pro and it has become  exceedingly unstable.  I'm having a hard time pinpointing the cause, but the crashes seem to be related to rapid scrolling across the map or changing the zoom view.  I've saved one of the error logs  and I was hoping that there might be someone out there who could offer me some advice on salvaging the current situation - the game is currently almost unplayable.

From what I can see, the pertinent error messages are:

PID:    435

Thread:  Unkown

Exception:  EXC_BAD_ACCESS (0X0001)

Codes:  KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE (0X0002) at 0X00000000

and

Unknown thread crashed with i386 Thread State:

eax: 0x00000000  ebx: 0xb809f7ce  ecx: 0x8200cf80  edx: 0x00000002

edi:  0x80d06c6c  esi:  0x00000000  ebp: 0xb7ff9f8  esp: 0xb7ff9f0

ss: 0x0000001f  efl: 0x0010202  eip: 0xb80a4caa  cs: 0x0000017

ds: 0x0000001f  es: 0x0000001f  fs: 0x00000000  gs: 0x00000037

I'm hoping some savvy individual may know what this means and how I can fix it.

I have a significant amount of plug in material (1.8 GB) that I recently migrated from a PC installation, which probably contains the offending items, but I am hoping against hope that these error messages may allow someone to help me solve the problem short of stripping the plugins completely and reinstalling manually and retesting as I go.

Many thanks!

Well - I solved my own problem. I bit the bullet and applied the universal binary patch. Unlike what some others have reported in the UB patch thread, I noticed an immediate and dramatic improvement - MUCH more stable. Better still, I've gained (cnservatively) about a 30-40% improvement in overall speed. With 1.8 GB of plugins, time from launch to use is under 3 minutes.
