SC4 Deluxe on 2.4GHz MBP

Anyone else running SC4 Deluxe on Apple's latest Macbook Pros? I'm running the 15" version with 4GB of RAM and the Nvidia Geforce 8600M GT w/256MB VRAM with the UB(beta) update and am still getting sluggish performance. I'm suspect that the video cards in the MBPs are brand new and Aspyr hasn't yet addressed them. I don't mind so much the sluggish performance but certain graphical anomalies are irritating, i.e. cars/traffic vanishing and reappearing and zone tiles that are invisible when they are being placed/dragged.

Do you have the latest drivers? That will fix most problems with slow preformence. Atleast on the PC it does that.

Dang heat I'll fix it later.

I'm wondering if some (or all) of the sluggishness you're seeing is due to the emulation under Rosetta.  I've seen a few graphical anomalies myself, although most were negligible.  I have a 1.25GHz power PC iMac and a 2.0GHz intel MacBook and neither is noticably faster than the other.

He is using the universal binary beta. Gymnut, note that it is a BETA, and is not perfect (in any way). Hate to say it, but the best thing would be to get a copy of XP and a copy of windows SC4 if you want the full experience. The Mac port is serviceable, but the developers did not invest the effort (there may have been valid reasons) to to a full, complete port.

Heyo, I have a nearly-new Macbook Pro, with the same GeForce card, and have been getting the exact same graphics problems. I've already searched the board for alterations I could make to the graphics rules.sgr file... none of them solved the problem. Peepska may be right, there's probably no solution to the problem until Apsyr itslef does something about it. Meh. If someone else knows otherwise though, please let us know!

Aspyr will not fix it, I was told that by them. If we see and update I will be shocked.

It is possible to edit the files to make it work better for ATI cards. Its possible that other cards could be done with the same method. In what way did you edit the files?

Firstly, I just accidentally solved part of the problem... If you lower the resolution setting to minimum, the "disappearing cars" issue is remedied. Doing this though causes scrolling to be much choppier, and the resolution itself is a bit tinsy.

As for modifying the files... not being a technical expert, I'm not sure, but the unsuccessful method I followed was to follow the ATI editing instructions (adding "ATI Radoen #### etc" to the listing of cards in the graphics rules.sgr file) This was, of course, before I realized I did not in fact have a Radeon card, and the problem was made worse. Heh. Perhaps following the same instructions for ATI, but using the GeForce name instead would work?

It should not have gotten worse, since the modification related to the radeon card. But, you could try it for the GeForce, it *might* work but I have a feeling it wont. The card may not follow the same rules. I have no system to try it on, hence the mod files I made are for ATI cards, but I did adjust the file in other ways. You could locate my thread for the Aluminum iMac fix and try those files.
