Problem with bridges

I'm having difficulties building any size bridge and dragging it across a body of water.

I even downloaded the bridge height download.

But the problem is still there.  No matter the type road, or highway the bridge height allowing ships to pass keeps me from bulding.  I've tried leveling the ground, making the edges of the rivers smooth and even, but nothing happens.

Can anyone explain to me why this is happening?

    Or how to solve it.

Most likely you'll need to raise both sides of the body of water to make the bridge high enough (which means you'll have to have an approach slope so the transit network can get up to that height before crossing the water). I suggest smoncrie's hole digging lots to make the hills, and there's a lot that lifts up the ground to make the hills. The advantage of these lots is that you can either lower or raise up the terrain an exact amount and exactly where you want it.

Do you connect the bridges with the joining network when you build it?

If yes, don't. Most of the time the bridges are not build because of the slope of the ramps.

I usually build the bridge separately: Just drag the network (road/rail etc.) as short as possible over the water - from start tile to start tile. Then raise the bride to the desired level (with or without letting ferries through).

Then build the ramps to the joining network.

    This method has two advantages:

    - you can determine the length of the bride rather exact

    - you can build "curved" ramps if desired or needed

Its disadvantage is that sometimes I tear down the bridge right after building since you don't get flat supports rather often.
