BackgroundSo the reason it's 4 years in the making is because I've been a member for four years at this site and haven't posted anything since I was waiting for the right city to showcase. After seeing the possibilities of SimCity through the works of other members this is what comes to fruition.

    UPDATENUMEROONE

    Good Morning Simtropolis!

    Calipatria awaits...

     Calipatria-Sep.png

Today, I would like to show you a secret-don't get too excited though, it's only a secret about tourist spots. As mayor, I wish to tell you the top tourist destinations in Calipatria that local Calipatrians don't want you to know about...they are truly gems. We'll start off with Mount Jacinta, the beautiful mountain that oversees all Calipatrians throughout their busy days.

    ***

    MOUNTjacinta

Believe it or not, Mount Jacinta was named after a 9-year-old child who scaled the mountain over 400 years ago to pick wild herbs that grew only at extreme altitudes. She  did this for her ailed family who unknowingly mistook poisonous mushrooms for good 'ol regular mushrooms and cooked them up and ate them. Jacinta was determined to climb that mountain-and she did.

So, in 1963 the Monorail connecting the small community of Mount Jacinta and Calipatria was dedicated in the memory of little Jacinta and her unfaltering dedication to her family.

    Calipatria-Jan-4.png

If you wish to visit Mount Jacinta it is accessible only through Monorail for tourists (citizens use the road and have special designation cards to drive up the mountain). I'll give the reason for that in another update. As the monorail travels up the mountain you will encounter the mountain's spectacular nature...

    Calipatria-Jan-2.png

The mountain is also home to the city's small wind turbine farm; thanks to the constant windy conditions halfway up the mountain, the turbines produce electricity for Mount Jacinta and 15% of homes in Calipatria.

    Calipatria-Jan-3.png

The end of the line for the monorail is at the Little Jacinta Station #2 on Mount Jacinta. Tourists can feast their eyes on the magnificent view of the city of Calipatria from the mountain or blow off some dollars on gifts for their friends at the shops that line the monorail platform.

     Calipatria-Jan-1.png

Aerial shot of Mount Jacinta community....the woods are a place for avid and amateur outdoors people. 9.gif

    Calipatria-Jan.png

So, if you are afraid of heights and not afraid of spending money, then I would recommend driving to the Uptown District of Calipatria where you will find many shops and boutiques.

    Calipatria-Jul-1.png

People who shop here generally tend not to look at price tags (if ya know what I mean...)

    Calipatria-Jul-3.png

    Calipatria-Jul-2.png

    Calipatria-Aug-1.png

    Later on Today...

    Calipatria-Jul-5.png

Calipatrians will raise concern for the state of traffic snarl ups in downtown Calipatria, City Hall and it's decaying infrastructure, and the effects of having a themed park in extremely close proximity to the downtown area.2.gif

disclaimer: sorry if this cj didn't turn out the way you thought....it's my first try.

    UPDATENUMBERDOS

    Hello Simtropolis!

     Calipatria-Aug.png

Good old City Hall. It has served the city council well, but sadly, as it slowly decays as time goes on, city council has unanimously agreed on relocating city hall to increase its capacity and efficiency.

The proposed site for the new building has been stirring up heat from the city-based environmental group HAPPA (Humane Assimilation for People, Plants and Animals), though, because it will be located at the center of the Redemacher Park on historic Bonita Street and will require trees to be chopped down.

    Calipatria-Jul-4.png

The proposed site is located where all the tall bushy trees are.

To ease the tensions, I decided to settle this democratically and hand the decision down to the citizens of Calipatria. Would they vote on the side of the city council and construct the new city hall in the park or would they defend the trees within the park and side with HAPPA....they decided...

to construct a new city hall in the park!!!

    YEY DEMOCRATIC PROCESS!!!

    ***

    TRAFFICjams

Calipatrians have informed me on the conditions they face as they venture off to work in the downtown area. They complain that many of the main avenues that lead to Downtown Calipatria begin as thin roads then widen into wider avenues. This transition is the cause of many traffic snarls and causes Calipatrians to lose precious minutes on the streets when they could be working hard in their offices. Below is one example of the transition from road to avenue.

    Calipatria-Jul-12.png

To solve this problem, I decided I would extend the avenues to where the roads originate, but this meant extending them all the way to the freeway.

    Calipatria-Jul-7.png

This also meant that all the businesses lining the avenues would have to be demolished to make room for the wider roads---there's nothing a few simoleans can't fix though. 44.gif

    Calipatria-Jul-10.png

The end result is wider roads to downtown from freeway to coast, and a smoother, easier commute.

     Calipatria-Jul-6.png

    ***

Development in Downtown Calipatria has grown exponentially! In fact, commercial offices have been scouting the edge of the downtown area for empty parcels for which they will pay handsomely for.

    Calipatria-Feb-1.png

Residential development along the downtown area has also been increasing and is evident in the pictures below.

    Calipatria-Feb.png

    More development!!!

    Calipatria-Jul-13.png

Wile touring the downtown area, I also had the distinct opportunity to visit the University of Calipatria and throw the season opening pitch at the UC Hornets' Stadium!

    Calipatria-Jul-8.png

    Calipatria-Jul-9.png

While touring the university, I began to wonder about the Calipatrians who cannot afford a university education and pondered the idea of constructing a community college where tuition is cheap and affordable. I presented my plan to the city council and they loved my idea, in fact, the city planner even presented us with a possibly suitable location for it: West Calipatria, where development is trickling through and could potentially increase significantly with the construction of this college.

    Calipatria-Nov.png

The final location for the college will be decided on at the next city council meeting, as will the fate of the themed park that lies in the downtown area of Calipatria. Don't worry though, I'll fight my hardest to keep it open.

    Now for random city pics!

omg. that is a huge update. democracy rules indeed, nice new city hall. the university and the parking around he stadium looks good, too but i feel like there is missing something. i don't know what (there is a lack of something in my own cities 9.gif), but maybe some kind of highlight.

but it's really nice, no question about it! so keep it up
