City Life: WE Help

Hello all.  I recently (last night) purchased City Life: World Edition at unawares that my GeForce 4 Mx 4000 would not satisfy the games requirements (I may be savvy on everyday computer dilemas, but graphics card succession is beyond me).  I therefore, upon the direction of a few quick fix sites, downloaded 3D-Analyzer and ran the game with it.  The configuration I used was the one the site said to, which only got the loading process in the very beginning to about 75-80% completion, at which point an error message appeared that said that an instruction referred to a memory that could not be "read".[the site I used was this one ].  I began to "play" with the settings and by checking:

*emulate pixel shader caps

*force max pixel shader ver. 1.1

*skip pixel shader ver. 1.4

*skip pixel shader ver. 2.0

*force high precision pixel shader

I was able to load to 100%, at which point a similar error message would appear, saying that some different instruction referred to some different memory which could not be read.  I never get to the main menu (however, the music plays tantalizingly in the background.

After much anguish, I went back to the site and discovered that the start .ini file in the BIN/DATA/Config folder was set to "LANGUAGE      FRA" and promptly changed it to "LANGUAGE      ENG".  Even then, however, the game did not work.  I am simply looking for any means to playing the game that does not involve me buying a new graphics card (my mother is afraid of computers and this may as well not be allowed).

Anyway... if any additional information is required, I will try to retrieve it but unfortunately cannot make promises.

Thank you in advance (hopefully)..

    Thanks 6underground for your tip.

I shall try it soon, but in my frustration, I uninstalled the game and reloaded SC4 (I was jonesin' for some city).

    I'm reinstalling as we speak.2.gif

And, off topic, your progress on Caprica City looks very promising indeed29.gif29.gif

EDIT:  The fix did not work, but I thank your response

You cannot run City Life on a GeForce 4MX-4 series card, because to put it simply, it does not support shaders. At all. You will have to get a new card.

yes, i've resigned myself to that solution as well and have already ordered a new one.

I saw on a few other sites that someone tries the 3d-Analyzer with a card that was similar to the GeForce 4 MX 4000 and just assumed it would work with it.

Oh well, thanks everyone for your help!
