Lafourche Parish

Welcome to the Lafourche Parish CJ, currently a growing metropolitan area with just under 3 million sims.

As development pushed citizens west and north of the heavily urbanized areas of Grand Bois and Thibodaux into the suburbs of  Picayune, Plaquemine and  Broussard, the parish board submitted a proposal to the voters to annex the nearby farming communities of Belle Chase and Opelousas to create the Belle Chase International Airport. The plan was ambitious: bring a 6 runway, 180+ gate airport to the parish within 20 years.

Understanding the need for a high capacity airport, the SNAA (SimNation Aviation Administration) and SNTSA (SimNation Transithe Security Administration) would suspend many regulations, such as:

·        Runway markings will only require a threshold and aiming point

·        Aircraft can take off from incomplete runways

·        Taxiway and ramp markings may conform to regional airport regulations if large airport markings are cost/time prohibitive

Phase 1-A – Complete

Polls showed most opposition to the plan came from its cost, which was well in excess of 10 million simoleons. More specifically, it was the plan to build a high capacity check-in and ticketing area long before the airport would need to use it. Demand for an airport was too much, and the large terminal was kept, mainly to ease future expansions.

Due to the urgent need for the airport, a 4 concourse terminal (A1-A4), pier style would be constructed in full. 36 gates would initially be constructed with 4-6 new gates being added in Phase 1-B to concourse A.

A relatively short, 2km/1.25mi 9/27 runway would be constructed with initial site preparation for an extention to a 2 mile runway taking place simultaneously. A 1.6k/1mi segment of 5/32 runway would also be constructed along with corresponding taxiway.

Phase 1-B – In Progress

A satellite terminal linking to Terminal A would be built creating another concourse (A5), along with a slight expansion at the terminus of concourse A4.

Runway expansion would occur, extending the 9/27 runway into the suburb of Broussard and the 5/32 runway into both the suburb of Maringouin and the village of Opelousas bringing its full length to 3.2km/2mi. An extention of LFTA (Lafourche Transit Agency) subway lines and bus routes to the airport will also be completed.

Phase 2 – Planning

Two additional terminals (B and C) willl be built. North/South and East/West runway intersections will be completed. Construction on another 9/27 runway will begin. Site preparation for an international terminal, curvilinear+pier style, will begin. An LFTA extension to Opelousas will be completed, and given the current annexation timetable of Ponchatoula, LFTA is planning an additional extension. Bayou du Lac will be filled in. The access road to the airport from Tchopitoulas Drive will be renamed Bayou du Lac Avenue.

Phase 3 – Planning

An additional domestic terminal will be constructed, capable of 50 gates with modularity. Additional terminals may be considered. Diagonal runways would be complete, and parallel diagonal runway construction will begin. The Taxiway Modernization Program will occur, updating taxiways and ramps to international airport standards.

Phase 4 – Feasability Studies

A mass transit solution, connecting BCA to Grand Bois and Thibodaux will be built, via both Broussard and Opelousas. Ground transit, already sunken, will fully integrate into the airport, allowing for separate departure and arrival areas, and connecting to parking garages adjacent to the airport, remote lots further down Tchopitoulas Boulevard, and subterranean parking. A feasibility study is being considered on an extention of the Green Line from downtown Grand Dubois, while a feasibility study on a comprehensive monorail system is also being considered. An addition exit from I-25 is also being studied in order to allow quicker service to the international terminal.

    hmmm, i dont see any pictures my friend but this sounds interesting and well thought out. i will be stopping by to see some pictures 9.gif

    EDIT: i see a couple of pics of the airport. it looks really nice and realistic, however, you should flatten it out. nobody wants to land on a bumpy runway 2.gif  also, you should think about fixing the pictures so they are actually on the page. not many people will leave the site to see pics. just a couple of hints.

    AceofSpades: Thanks! Expect an update within the next couple days

    granto93: Thanks I really do appreciate and seek constructive criticism. I'm still figuring out the best way to resize pics for the STEX. I linked because those were the full size versions and at the zoom level I was at thats the closest I could get without losing the details I wanted while still showing the runway markings which I've spent ridiculous ammounts of time on. As for the bumpy runway, I'm either going to fix the tunnel, or wait for a runway/taxiway overpass a la Schipol. Pictures of the region will follow along with the cities I keep referring to. I was just so excited to post something I wanted to get all I had out.

    Also I'm very open to new placename suggestions. Obviously I'm going for the Louisiana/Gulf Coast feel. This is kind of a "what-if" Mississippi River Delta.

    Just some personal background, somewhat relevant to my CJ, I'm a college student at Tulane University in New Orleans, LA but I live in Chicago. My airport will be more badass that O'Hare, and my region will be what Ray Nagin could only dream of. I've been a member of the ST for so long without doing anything because back then I was still running a downloaded version of the game. Only last year did I decide that it was a good enough game to buy. And just this week I rediscovered the STEX/ Just because I have it, here's a pic of my region so far, without updated city names.

    The vast majority of skyscrapers were grown and not plopped. Without a dilapidation mod, all CO$$$ are not distressed. the WTC in what will be Grand Bois is somewhat underused though.

    Residency-> Maringouin

    Mocha-> Broussard

    Vault-> Thibodaux

    Lusher-> Grand Bois

    I need to rename:

    Bellamy (medium-density, residential/commercial)

    Contra Costa (IHT, the entire damn tile)

    Avery (I was thinking about Avery Island, but theres nothing island about this place)

    Oak Forest (medium-density residential/commercial)

    Construction on BCA will be downshifted with a focus on the ground transport and mass transit solutions. and the completion of existing runways and connection to taxiways. Terminal B will not break ground on new jetways until runways 32R and 04L are well underway (waiting on non-RMIP Diagonal Runways from SC4Dev)

    A priority for the airport is an emergency repair to what will be runway 27L. Overuse and poor construction technique on the Tchopitoulas Blvd underpass have caused pavement to buckle, leaving only 09R available for takeoffs and landings when winds are easterly. (Sorry if my airplane/airport terminology is wrong. I only realized I love mass transit/airport design 5 days ago)

    Update will be up before 0000 central time, fingers crossed.
