Anyone knows a good free registry cleaner. Most of those trials do check (an always find +800 errors, which I can understand, since I never cleaned since I bought this laptop (2 years ago). But you have to buy them in order to clean out. (P.S.: Is this the right forum?)

may be eaiser to just reload the OS.

If you have 800 registry errors, your best bet would be to start with a clean registry and take care of any

deep problems that a registry fixer may miss.

    Try ccleaner.

    It's free, and works great.

    You can get it here.

Be very careful with this.  What you get for free is worth what you paid for it, especially with respect to registry cleaners.

Ohhhh, yes, be very careful I remember getting a virus on my old desktop that kept sending me these popups saying that my registry had upwards of 900 something errors, and to go to some site to download this free software to fix it. Turns out the software was an even more harmful virus. Luckily i ran an avast! bootscan afterwards and got rid of it.

I want to echo what N_O_Body (a no-nonsense computer guru) and Firebird said. Be VERY careful! Regarding CCClean, last time I had my computer in the shop for service, the tech "did me a favour" and installed CCClean for me. I tried it, and I really wasn't impressed. For one, it told me I had like 600 errors (or whatever the term was) in my registry, which I immediately thought was strange since I had just had my comp serviced and supposedly all the registry problems were eliminated. I ran CCClean, it cleaned up most of it, but a day or two later I checked and again I had hundreds of errors. I don't know if it's just a useless program or if it's some kind of gimmick to get you to buy a more expensive version or what. What I DO know is that regular cleaning with Spybot and McAfee anti-virus keeps my comp running smoothly and with no apparent issues.

Every now and then when it seems I do have something that got into my system, running Spybot finds it and gets rid of it. I've been using this FREE program for years and I swear by it, as do many, many of my friends and acquaintances. Google Spybot and go to THEIR site (It's german, I believe, but the language is English) and get it. It will take awhile the first time you run it, but it's well worth the time. Again, be SURE to get it ONLY from their official site. Many other sites offer it, but some may install other things on your comp to benefit the magazine or whatever entity is offering the program.

Good Luck, Caspervg! Hopefully this will get you straight and make your computer happy. Unless you have some really serious issues, this should clean up your registry and get the garbage out of there along with any spyware, adware and other nusances. (Of course, it gives you a checklist, so if there is something there that you want to keep, you can keep it.)

    Yes yes yes.

Up to date Anti-spyware and Anti-Virus programs are essential.  They need to update every time you connect to the internet.

A PC is like a car - you have to maintain it to get the best performance and life.

There are no short-cuts - well not free ones anyway.

Thanks alot everyone. A total system reload could be great, but since I bought this laptop with a "System Backup"-partition (5GB), how do I get it activated?

Somewhere on your start up, it tells you.  Usually during the POSTs.  If these flash past too quickly to see them, try holding down the F1 key or failing that F10.  One of them usually does it.
