Some Problems with Commutes

    I've had a problem recently that sprung up in one of my cities.  The entire section of the city here, circled in red, cycles through phases of unemployment, dilapidation, abandonment, and then new buildings to start the cycle anew.  The reason for every single abandoned building I've queried is "Abandoned due to commute time."

    The first picture is of the unemployment.  This is actually less abandonment than I usually get.  Putting a few commercial zones in among the residential zones helped, but to the point where the entire area except for one building would have to be commercial.

    The second picture is the rail connections I have running through the neighborhood.  The stations are circled in blue.

    The third picture is the subway lines I have in place for the neighborhood.  There are some abandoned buildings that are literally right next to a station and cite commute time as a reason for abandonment.  The commercial zones I put in to help are marked as well.

    It's also worth noting that I tried 5x capacity, 5x capacity 10x commute 10x speed, and radical pathfinding from NAM and none of them were able to fix the unemployment problem.  I have had nothing like this happen in any other cities I've made, and stranger still, the other half of my city is fine.  It's just this area that can't get a job.

    Populations are as follows, if they help:

    R$ = 64000

    R$$ = 37000

    R$$$ = 6700

    CS$ = 6600

    CS$$ = 7900

    CS$$$ = 1000

    CO$$ = 16000

    CO$$$ = 6000

    ID = 30000

    IM = 14000

    IHT = 3000

    Hopefully one of you readers can help.  I'm stumped. =/

    You don't say, but are your running with the NAM?  If so, what path finding option are you using?

    Abandonment due to commute is the default excuse.  The game seems to cough that up when the cause is really unknown.

    If you haven't got it, I suggest picking up the NAM with perfect path finding.  You may want to fool with other NAM options.

    Another trick is to make your commercial and residential mix more intimately.  That solid commercial region could maybe be backed by some more residential on the one side.

    Perfect was the one mode that I did not try.  Before that Radical was the highest I had gone, to avoid any computer performance issues.

    Just tried perfect pathfinding, it didn't work.  Instead of waiting for five or so years I razed the entire neighborhood in question and let it re-develop in order to get new jobs, that also didn't work.  I suppose it's just a zoning problem then.
