This is just my two cents but maybe its not transportation related? (other than not enough bus stops) Theres no parks, no trees planted. It looks like the ghetto. Baby it.

Just tap it in...  tap it in.

your city looks good so far.  what vandraad said is true.  sims can drive to the passenger station, but if you really want to increase the amount of sims that "park and ride" you'll need to add a parking garage near the station.  another solution would be to add bus stops in your residential neighborhoods.  since you have a bus stop next to the station, your sims will be able to take the bus to the station and then hop on the train to get to wherever they're going.

one other note on R$$$ sims.  one way to keep them out is to raise taxes (like you've done).  another way to keep them out is to not supply water to your sims.  that way you can build parks and what not without attracting the unwanted wealthy sims.  you don't need a water supply until you're ready for wealthy sims to start moving in.

just for your information, here's a pic of one of my cities.  i haven't worked on it a while as i'm currently developing adjacent cities:

City1.jpg

here's a pic showing how i laid out my zones.  you can see the highway running east to west just south of the river, then turning north on the east side of the city.  in this way i am connecting the city to 3 adjacent cities.  note the concentration of commercial zones north and south of the river.  this will be my CBD.

City2.jpg

and here's the traffic data.  my pop. is about 28K and i'm just using bus stops and the highway.  my commute time is hovering at about 50-ish.  however, i'm planning for this city to be quite dense so i'm probably gonna use subways and rail when my traffic starts to snarl up:

good luck with your new city!

Thanks, do I need one of those big parking garages?

    @ Duper - Hell yea...haha.

@ opbravo - So no water, at all? What if I raised taxes to 20%? Would that do it? And about your city, are those industrial areas Hi-Tech?

raising taxes that high would definitely deter wealthy sims. so either or would work... just wanted to give you some options.

as for my pic, all the industrial areas are hi-tech except for the ones on the east and north east... those are predominantly manufacturing and dirty industry. they are the remnants of the early years of my city. i'm kinda keeping them around for nostalgic purposes, but they do provide a large number of jobs to my low wealth and medium wealth sims.

as for your city, it looks like you're getting good use out of your bus system (which is great!). however, is your rail system being used? do a route query on your rail station and see what pops up.

The rail system is hardly being used, only 39. But I mostly put it in for future purposes. And thanks for the options, I'll need as many as I can get, lol.

Your rail connects these 2 cities, and you have the parking garage next to the one in your residential neighborhood, but you dont have a bus stop next to the destination rail station. This means your sims ride the train to the industrial town, get off at the station and are limited to walking distance. Pop a bus stop next to the station and various stops amongst the buildings.

What should I do if I have more jobs then people available and yet I still have a lot of unemployed people. As a side note I used the Super Demand mod. So I have about 16,000 C/I jobs and about 14,000 people. I hate when this happens!

King Daily:  you may want to start a new thread concerning your above topic since it's different from your original.

i personally don't use any mods (other than the NAM), so i can't help you with your new question.  but perhaps someone else can help you out.

Patient: "Hey doctor, it hurts when I do this."

    Doctor: "Then don't do that."quote>

The Super Demand mod is basically a "cheat." Not that cheats are bad mind you, to each their own. Some "cheats" are simply necessary, if you prefer not to deal with some aspect of the game that otherwise prevents you from enjoying it. But that one's purpose is to ignore carefully (some would say "tediously") balanced demand in favor of rapid, unrealistic and unmanaged growth of RCI growable buildings. But if you don't like its results...stop using it. 41.gif

(beware though: the very nature of that mod means, taking it away after building a city = massive negative demand and widespread abandonment in response to buildings your sims aren't naturally ready for and can't use; in this case, it may indeed be better to just obliterate it, you'll probably end up bulldozing 90% of it anyway if you take that mod off now).
