Help with a new City

Hello everyone!

I have been at Simtropolis for a while, but have just been a reader.  This is my first.  I have started countless regions, but I can never get it right!   First of all, I usually start off by just terraforming a small city, and I can never get it right.  Where should I start, and should I make my individual city maps bigger?  If so, how can I do this?  Also, when I do start on the city, it always winds up looking the same: disorganized and suburban.  I usually have the boring residential, commercial, industrial and farm zones all over the place, and it just looks like an organized mess sorted by type of zone.  How can I improve my planning/building skills?  Do you recommend any mods/BATS?  My goal is to eventually come up with an organized, CJ-quality region, with a city center/capital and everything that comes along with a quality region.  Thanks a lot!

Hi Mike,

the first thing you (and all other beginners) should do to get the feel of the game and start questions in threads, is to have a serious and long look at our Omnibus. Many, if not all, of your questions will be answered there. The ST Omnibus is the result of many years of ST Player's experience. There's more there than you could get as info in this thread. I am pretty sure that it will improve your gameskills by at least 100% if not more.
