From what i understand all these parks and gardens and sport areas improve desirability of an area, but how big of an area?

is there any reason to put them down if your desirability is in the bright green?

ive mastered making nicely profitable slums, so what im trying now is making cities actualy worth living in. trying to get mostly $$ and $$$ sims (well, not yet $$$, ive set tax rate to 20 for them so they dont move in till i want them in) there, ive got one map its half full of med density res, they have 200 eq and excelent health, only thing they cry about is one whole road section. but its still got mostly poor people.

City has no polution (well, tiny bit from like 4 blocks of road) excelent fire/school/cops/hospital and ive dropped down MOST of the rewards i earned, and have started giving them IHT which filled immediately. this city only has about 42k people, my whole region has about 170k

    thanks

ok, so just to make sure i fully understand this

Large Plaza gives +80 desirability for commercial (within 15 tiles of it? is that correct, and if so, is this every direction? and 35 desirability to residential (within 30 tiles around it?)

and 9000 pop cap relief? am i right in assuming this means i can hold an extra 9000 people in that 30 tile radius or does it just allow the R part of the RCI chart to go higher? cause in my good city (i made some poor rubish slum cities to get some pop and get the hang of making a profit, now im trying to make one worth living in)

i want to try and understand how much of this stuff i should build, and how far away i can have it, so when building i can leave spaces for its later development. wish it was as easy as laying pipes, 12 squares between each one 3.gif

Edit: btw, i also added the 1x1 tile "Open Grass Area" besides all my avanues in residential area. so i have like strip of Open Grass Area  about 6 wide, and then a road, and another strip

did i overdo it a lot? does it stack? if by dumping all this does it mean i wont need plazas?

Positive and negative effects on and value, pollution, etc. are cumulative. That is, the land value of a given tile starts at a base value, then counts in all enhancing and reducing factors which it's within the effect radius of. So yes, the effects do stack.

As for whether you overdid it, that's entirely up to you. It depends on how high you want to drive the land value. Just keep in mind that land that you're using up for park space is land that you're not collecting any property taxes on, and in fact is costing you money due to maintenance.

Also, another hint: if you're planting open grass patches, plant some trees on them, too. You'll get additional land value enhancing and pollution reducing effects that way without taking up any additional land.

Oh, and demand cap relief doesn't have a radius, it's a citywide effect.
