Thanks guys. Good news! My SC4 has bounced back to life again, although with minor graphical glitches (more on that in a second). That means I can bring you the first teaser out of Sakhaliya in what has been a few stagnant months of me slowly, but surely, progressing ever forwards with various small settlements and re-shaping some of my Industrial Grittyness into Rural muddyness.

Here's a teaser image of one (there's a few more I made during my absence but one of them didn't render properly and their supposed to be a 'package' 3.gif) of my new BAT's... i'll let you figure out what it is yourself...

... but if somebody could help, i'd like to know how to get rid of the 'blobby' shadows... maybe its something to do with me lacking drivers, but i'm hesitant to make a real update untill I can get rid of them.

    Clickeh

    teaseh1.jpg

Anyway, heres the real teaser; Slavyat Nuclear Power Plant, Reactor 1 with opposite Pump houses -

    teaseh.jpg

Anywho, given the time i've spent building, an update should follow quite soon... as long as I can bring myself to ignore the glitches.

(Oh... and i've updated my wiki slightly and the front page)

    Wow, looks great.

As for your shadows, change the game option from Software to Hardware rendering in the games option menu... but install your drivers first, or the frame rate will be measured on one hand only. 3.gif

Hate to barge in, but I've had this problem for months too, and I saw in another thread that changing the option from Software to Hardware fixes the problem, but when I did this yesterday, everything exploded, and things wouldn't fit in my computer monitor when I played the game. I set it back to Software, and everything went back to normal. But I still have those terrible shadows. For months, I've just turned off the shadows in my game. Does anyone know how you set it back to Hardware without having things go haywire?

Anyways, El Burro, the teasers look great, and I hope you get the shadow problem sorted out too! Sorry about piping in in your journal. Looking forward to the full update.

    Nice Tank Depot.

But their's this one matter of my Border you Recognize, it seems you have gave Russiya a chunk of my north, i hope this is only a mistake.

    sakhaliyamapcleancolour.png

Oh, and As for the Wiki you stated Khabarovsk's name wrong It's "Kh.S.S.R." Not "K.S.S.R.", and the Kh.S.S.R. was fromed around the same time after End of World War 2 as Sakhaliya, like your Country, and the Karelo-Finnish S.S.R., just to let you know.

    Great teaser!

I have the same problem too with shadows on my laptop, I can only play it on software mode as hardware is too laggy and it only has those blob shadows. I think SC4 is too old to handle modern graphics cards as it worked fine on my ancient PC !

No, not really... getting a new Graphics Card on Friday however... just a cheapo Geforce 8500 but it should do the trick. Was gonna get an 8800 with a huge golden fan but I thought 'Who am I? The pope? I have bills to pay...'

Update when I get home from work 3.gif

    -Update- 8

    Slavyat - The Nuclear heartland

Welcome back Comrades and curious folk alike. Many years ago, back in the early days of Premier Buriya, Sakhaliya set up a Nuclear Programme with aid from both China and the USSR. We got as far as obtaining the technology needed for Uranium enrichment and blueprints for a Nuclear Reactor, but our efforts were halted by the Chernobyl disaster of 1986 when we discovered the blueprints we were given were also for a RBMK type reactor. We waited some years for more news on new a Reactor type and funding from the USSR but instead we got the total dissolution and break up of the Empire. We soon gave up our ambitions and switched most of Nuclear funding over to the Government owned COSORD ('Commission of Sakhaliyan Oil Reserve Drilling').

    sakhalinsk15.jpg

COSORD owns all of the Oil supplies in Sakhaliya. Oil produces 10% of Sakhaliya's total GDP and is growing more and more with the revenue COSORD is making from oversea's exports while we wean ourselves off of it by closing down our Oil Fired Power plants and running a fierce pro-Public Transport campaign to urge people onto the vast transit network we are running.

Nuclear Power is now playing a large part in this goal-

    slavyat5norm.jpg

In 1999, Sakhaliya forwarded a notice to the UN to announce our intentions to seek Nuclear fuels as a viable Power  resource. The international community was skeptical that our intentions were soley 'Civil' and set out to embargo all Nuclear technology and materials from our Country, but the UN gave us a chance and sent weapons inspectors as a precationary measure to double check we were telling the truth. And we were.

    slavyat12.jpg

Near the site of the Plant was the town of Slavyat; a new town built especially for the Plant (that hadn't been built at this point in time)... it was a Utopian vision that was destroyed by the relocation of over 15,000 Khabarovsk Citizens in order to ease the lack to employment in the City. The small communal gardens and man made lakes were covered up to make way for huge tower blocks and a new 'Commission of Nuclear Fuels' building. The Premier simply said, 'We will do better next time'... but I don't feel we have.

    slavyat20.jpg

The Area to the East of Slavyat, we are looking West

    slavyat13.jpg

    Commission of Nuclear Fuels building

With the relocation however, we WERE able to make use of the extra land and skilled work-force. This lead to the construction of both a Weapons Factory producing various vehicles and weapons for the Sakhaliyan Army (dubbed 'The Red Fist') and a moderate sized Airbase on the 'Murska Vyazekij' for a proportion of the Sakhaliyan Airforce (dubbed 'The Red Phoenix').

    slavyat11.jpg

Slavyat Weapons Factory. Outside are various pieces of Hardware, including T-72 Sakhaliyan Variants and the SCUD B missile launcher

The Military although is very much hidden in this town. The Airbase is were most Soldiers are stationed, on alert 24/7, using the vast forest surroundings as their training ground.  Heavily armed Soldiers, T-72's and Shilka's stalk the forests in large exercises although, some hidden in the forest are not here to play games; they are on constant search for unauthorised Aircraft.

    slavyat21.jpg

Although this lone Shilka couldn't take down a spy plane, it can relay an enemy plane's position to nearby SA-2 'Guidline' Missile batteries that will lock on, launch, and chase an Aircraft into the ground.

On a less deadly note, the Slavyat authorities are planning starting a Ferry crossing to Sakhalin in the coming months to boost the Islands accessability and economy. It was initially thought a Bridge could be built to Sakhalin but the Government took one look at the estimated cost and effectively told the local authorities to 'Get lost'.

    slavyat22.jpg

The planned route goes from an abandoned 'Dementia Facility' (Insane Asylum) on the coast, to a small flat area on Sakhalin where a new Town is also planned

    slavyat14.jpg

An old WW2 Japanese Field Hospital turned Sakhaliyan Insane Asylum. Many of the people incarcerated were never fully diagnosed and died as a result. It was closed in 1972 and the patients moved to Khabarovsk

Slavyat itself is a prime example of Sakhaliyan town design, with a few extra's however. This Market-come-Swimming pool establishment is part of the 'Greater People's Welfare Programme' initiated by the Government to alleviate the monotony of living in towns like this up and down the country with very few Lesuire facilities

    slavyat8.jpg

Along with the new Programmes is the introduction of private farms. People have the ability to buy thier land off the Government for a small fee. This allows them to buy and sell produce as they will at local Markets.

    slavyat10.jpg

Its not exactly the Netherlands, but when it comes to traditional bread and food stuffs a Windmill is an invaluble commodity. This one is shared by the entire community.

And that about does it. Hopefully i've enlightened you and informed some more about our glorious homeland. Its not all good I admit, but not much is in any country. As the international community applies more pressure, Sakhaliya will most probaby become a better, less controlled place. Democracy however, doesn't seem likey... not that I feel the country would be any better with it.

    Wish you well,

Stefan Makomov, 3rd Commissar of the Red Nerve

Wow, that is so amazing. 9.gif I love that river view. I also like that giant square by the apartment blocks, very communist.  You also always seem to make realistic industrial BATS.

Sakhaliya's system is more of a "Fauxmocracy"... the Premier holds the majority of the power over the two Commissar cabinets of the Politburo that address and debate issues currently affecting the country. Neither Cabinets can get into power however since the ascention to Premier can only be obtained by becoming the highest decorated Military Commissar in the country; the Politicians can still become Chairman of their Cabinet though.

Very Excellant Work here. I love the town, and just the look of everything. It has that perfect Communist feel to it.

By the way, where did you get those tall, dead looking trees, as well as the pine ones in the Tank picture.

Penguin007 - Couldn't have done it without the Rural Renewal Project... just makes things so much more realistic

Panther - Thanks. Well, you've got to do something when your Internet has been cut off... most of the stuff I made in bat during my extended 'hiatus' was without reference and a lack of textures. I acctually surprised myself 47.gif

Frogface - Don't worry... the imperialist Pigs shant get to me. As for the Nuclear programme... well, we'll see where that leads to *shifty eyes*

Schulmanator - Sakhaliyan Plutonium is so much sweeter... it reeks of victory, victory of the working classes, victory over the Capitalist pigs, victory for Lenin! No, I shall never break character! 3.gif

Jabezscratch - Not enough time and effort I feel sometimes... I lack the advantage of being a real Soviet town planner... and since most Soviet towns are quite old now and have mostly been built up, all I can rely on is a scraps of layout information from Pripyat; the only true Soviet town left on Earth.

Benedict - Heh, yeah... adds to the decay and makes you wonder how people could rely on something so decrepit. Look at Zaporizhzhia in Ukraine though... its rusted beyond belief!

ExplodingSims - Thanks, those tree's are part of CPT No7 Assorted Tree Controllers pack by Cycledogg... massively useful, everybody should have it! 2.gif

Connorc24 - Thanks. We should have some more soon... I ordered my Graphics card today, probably be here on Saturday... then I can update on the weekend since I still have a little bit more to show off 2.gif

Also... i'm gonna do something weird and Thank all of those who have visited and not posted... its the thought that counts, I do it all the time 3.gif
