Subways keep getting deleted

    I have the original Simcity 4 plus the updates from simcity.com, and when I loaded up my largest city (about 1.2m residents) the subway rails just weren't there.  I tried reloading the city, importing it to a different region, etc. but the same problem still remained.
    I rebuilt the subway at great time and expense (about $9,000,000), and saved the city.  The savegame file was noticeably larger, so I thought that was that.  However, the next time I loaded the city, the subways were gone again.
    I was running this on my laptop which has a Pentium m processor 1.7GHz, 512Mb of Ram and about 500Mb of Virtual memory.  I have downloaded no mods or plugins.

    Welcome to Simtropolis:

    Strange behavior, it usually crashes in these circumstance.  Try setting your Virtual Memory to Maximum for both initial and maximum size.  Laptops are a poor choice for this game as it runs the CPU flat out and may overheat the computer.

    Maximums:

    XP: 4096MB

    Vista: 4096MB
