As you have seen on my BAT, i i included a 3dmodel of a person from Archidom.net  ( russian site), people have asked me to release it, and i want to share it with you too, but i am unsure if this is piracy.

This is the model i am talking about, i have somewhat modified it, made it sit down, (moving alot of points, annoying work) customised the textures, added a bottle and well altered it a bit.

I haven't  yet managed to find out WHO is the original author of this model though.

Some opinions, anyone?

of course you have to ask permission from Its creator. But or at least you should give credit to him........ take it easy, glenni!!

I would be inclined to release it, but be sure to give credit to the author.

My recommendation would be to upload it, providing a link to where you got the origonal model from. This should equal the same has giving the author credit.

Just make sure you get permission from a STeX mod first (but you were going to that anyway, right? )

I am not angry, at all but what annoys me is when people just completely ignore the text, and just look at thread title and pics...

Let's see...

You took a base model, modified it significantly, and it's not even the focus of the work in question. As far as piracy goes, that falls under "Fair Use", so you should be good. ST may have a different opinion, though.

I agree with whomever suggested that you link the site in your description when you upload to the STEX. maybe say "this [linked] prop/model which was modified and used by me was created by unknown author and made available at the previously linked location"

That should CYA (cover your as$ incase you were wondering). I wouldn't call it piracy by any stretch of the imagination and i doubt the creator was too worried about credit if you can't even find his/her name (unless language barriers are the reason, you did say it was a Russian site).

In anycase, do what you feel comfortable doing. IMHO you could safely release with a disclaimer and link as i mentioned above. good luck in your decision.
