Planning for the future...

Good morning all,

After finally having a few well developed cities in my region (without cheating...which is a first for me), I'm trying to plan for the future with my zoning.

I am curious if there is a reference to what size of zoned footprint will be required to get different stages of buildings.

Obviously, if I zone my entire city 2x2, I won't be getting any higher stage buildings...

And in the same vein, if I have a city block with twelve lots all zoned 1x3...is that the same as having one lot 6x6 (holding down the ctl key while placing)...

Thanks a million for any answers, this should help me with my future planning an current re-zoning.

your penultimate line - yes. if you zone a bunch of smaller lots, they will eventually be built on as one large one. new buildings often eat up more than one lot.

    Thank you for your reply.

I guess I should revise my questions for clarity...

What size of footprint is needed for stage 8 buildings?

What is the purpose of the feature of holding down the Ctl key while placing a zone?

    Thanks again

Stage 8 buildings are generally 3x3, 3x4, 4x4.....the majority being 3x3. Holding down ctl allows you to specify a particular size of lot for development. In some cases this is over-ridden but in most only a 3x3 building will develop if you've zoned it 3x3 using ctl.

largest building footprints are 6x6. most common late stage buildings are 3x4 and 4x4.
