MySim Commute and U-Drive-It

Hello!

Well I''m back from an extra-long hiatus - had quite the summer, but since no one cares I''ll get right to it.

I''ve done my best to search around for an existing thread on these, but I can''t find one and I''m sick of searching so:

1- How come every single job one of My Sims has ever recieved switches on amonthly basis because the "work commute''s a no-go". I''ve even tried forcing them into a job directly across the street and it''s still a "no-go". Any fix for this? All the red gets irritating

2- For the driving missions, you need a training mission first right? How do you get that. I can''t seem to get the missions going and I''m anxious to try this feature out. Thanks

I actually want to bring this point up as well.

It seems like MySims are worse than ever. They $%&^! and moan about where they live, even if they are living in a perfectly healthy neighborhood (no distress) and there's mass transit nearby and all the other sims seem to be going about business just fine.

I've tried playing a MySim in my biggest city and he leaves after a few months, every single damn time.

Maxis needs to fix this.

I did have them problems in SC4 and T7T modd fixed it, though I do not have RH as it comes out tomorrow in the UK, however I think that it is a case of forgetting the MySim mode untill the city is nice and large as I have done in SC4

The pathfinding modd for the original game fixed the mysim problem.  I am currently working on testing the RH commute engine to be able to release a RH compatable modd, but I don't want to be like microsoft and release buggy patches, so I want to make sure accurate testing is done before this modd is released.

Concerning the U-drive it missions, the car training mission is the first one that pops up, when I clicked on the car bubble above the car, it asked me if I want to do it.  I don't think you have to do this for more than just one city (after you do it once, there is no more need to do it in other cities).

Yes, I know this thread has been dormant for a few years, but it seems the logical place to add my annoyances (SC4 Deluxe + NAM with 'Better Pathfinding'):

    * One MySim keeps moaning that she can't get to work, even though a) she only lives around the corner, b) the Route Finder query shows that she can, and c) the 'ordinary' query on her house states the commute is short.

Sidenote: I then tried moving her to the other side of the city, well away from any jobs, so she would have something to moan about. She then moved house (literally - took the house with her!) to a different district of the city with a job about 5 tiles away (a pedestrian commute away, according to Route Finder), and still moaned she couldn't drive there. What tickles me even more is that she's now the CEO of her company, so continually gets sacked then re-employed in the same role at the same location.

    * Several MySims like to complain about the lack of a school in their neighbourhood, despite being in the catchment areas for at least one ridiculously well-funded school (more teachers than pupils!)

    * I wish they wouldn't bug me about potential crime issues when I plop a bus stop.

Are these permanent annoyances or are there workarounds / fixes (apart from evicting them!)

First off, there isn't any problem when you bump an old thread when you have a legitimate contribution to it like what you posted.

The sims are incredibly stupid at finding their way around town. If you haven't gone to the Modds & Downloads section and downloaded the NAM, I suggest you do so. It has a file that will make your sims smarter at getting around and may help solve many of your problems with transportation issues.

As for the schools, I'm not sure what is up here.

The bus stops do increase crime slightly where they are plopped, so sims are naturally concerned about that. I gets annoying, but short of getting a bus stop that doesn't increase crime (you may be able to find some on the STEX) there isn't anything that I know of that you can do for it.

I have NAM - I might experiment with one of the Perfect Pathfinding options and see if that improves their commutes without significantly affecting system performance.

As for the bus stop issue, I'll ignore them (hey, I ignore the advisors often enough, shouldn't be too difficult to ignore the residents!)

How much it affects your system will depend on how beefy your system is, but I've used some of the better ones without any real affect on performance.
