Welcome to Wilcox County!

Hmm... so I decided to make a new CJ.  This time, I am trying to aim for a CJ with both urban and rural areas (starting out rural).  I will still have some roadgeekery, but I'll show that off a little bit later.  But anyways, here is Wilcox County.  Enjoy!

City of Raleigh

The city of Raleigh is located in northern Wilcox County, at the junction of Interstate 35 and SH 188.  SH 179 runs north-south through the city, and IH-35 goes to the west of SH 179, the predecessor to IH-35.  SH 188 is the main east-west highway, following a freeway alignment to the south of the city, and the business highway follows the old SH 188 into the city, intersecting SH 179 at the City Centre roundabout.  SH 188 also follows IH-35 north to meet Business SH 188, and follows a two-lane alignment to the west of Raleigh.  But anyway, in this first update, we will be touring SH 179, Raleigh's Main Street.  All pictures face north.

One of two roundabouts along SH 179 in Raleigh.  Notice that Raleigh has a European feel.

Saint Eisenburg's Cathedral was built from 1668 to 1679, and is one of Raleigh's most visited places.  The name represents the city's German history.  In fact, German is most resident's second language of choice.

At this point, we leave the European-style buildings behind as we enter Raleigh's outskirts.

Hope you liked it!

Good stuff. You really captured the feel of a small European village. My favorite parts are the roundabouts you hit when you first roll into town. I also like the McDonald's (I think that's what it is) being the last structure on your way out of town; so accurate. Keep it up!
