Hey, I'm new here, I've had SC4 since it was released but never really caught the hang of it. Since stupidly leaving my Sims 2 disks back at uni (I was extremely hungover my last night ha) I have decided I will give SC4 another go.

I have a few questions, however:
Where do you unzip downloads to?
And what downloads would you recommend I get? Bear in mind I only have SC4, not deluxe or Rush Hour.

    Thanks in advance!

    Welcome to Simtropolis.

I generally unzip my downloads in the appropriate directory of the My Downloads folder on my desktop. I then follow the read me installation directions to place whatever parts of the download are needed into My Documents\Simcity 4\Plugins. If you are running Vista that's Userid\Documents\Simcity 4\Plugins.

Since you don't have Rush Hour, there are is a few downloads available. Be selective, and avoid any that use the Rpatch program, as these scrag your executable.

A lot of the major dependencies and professional mods (those done by seasoned and popular members belonging to groups such as the BSC, NDEX, etc.) have installers that will install them directly into your MyDocuments/SimCity4/Plugins folder. There are several threads on the topic of where to download them. I have all of my major files in the Maxis directory (ProgramFiles/Maxis/Plugins). These include water and terrain mods, the NAM, any slope or road mods, and some others to speed up the game. Do a search for "download directory" or something like that and you will find several threads on the subject.

For now, since you're new, put them in your MyDocuments directory. Make sure you label the directories to make them easy to navigate and give them a description so you know what they are.
