Hi and welcome to the site.

Something is missing: do you know what are the computer specifications?

Not enough information.  What version of the game are you running (SC4, RH, Deluxe)?

What operating system?

What is the specification of your machine?  (you can get this fastest by typing DXDIAG in the run box and clicking on OK).

Hello from germany

Got the same problem. Bought Sim City Deluxe a few days ago and updated it.

If I only want to save - its ok. But if I press button "save and go to region" (dont know whats it in english) it freezes and I have to press ctrl+alt+del to quit the game.

Yesterday I lost 50% of inhabitants due to this 15.gif

I got Win XP - What other specifications you need?

Thanx for the answers

Oh, I had hoped to find an answer for this saving issue. I bought Deluxe 2 weeks ago and yesterday it saved fine. Today it froze twice in God mode when I tried and I had to manually reboot.

System specs? It's good enough to run Sims 2 in high graphics mode so there shouldn't really be a problem. 1 Gig ram, 2,53 GH, Win XP Home Service Pack 2, IE 7 recently installed. Game is patched.

I have also noticed CPU usage at 99% all of the time. It's hogging my computer. If I try to do anything else when I alt-tab, like surfing, everything is slooooooow. Is there something I can do to fix that?

Thankyou for any help. I'm gonna cry next time my city doesn't get saved.

Well, there is a sticky above about how to set your Virtual Memory to 4GB.  If you haven't, that's probably a good start.

This program is a CPU and Memory hog.  Nothing you can do about it, simulations are simply that way.  All tables for things like lots and plugins are kept in memory, and can be paged.

If you are having a problem with the save menu items, do a quick save (CTRL+S) then quit without saving.  This should solve that problem.

There is another sticky above about disk maintenance.  Disk maintenance is very important with this game because it checkerboards the daylights our of your hard disk on which the saves occur.  Keeping enough space for saves by removing as many temps as possible is important.

Even more important is defragmentation.  A fragmented save file takes a long time to load, and is prone to error due to the number of disk accesses.  During a save, more fragments are created when the file is bigger than it was.

Alas, computers are not appliances like refrigerators.  Some minimal TLC (Tender Loving Care) is required to keep them in top form.  A computer is more like a sailboat.  Maintenance is required or you will sink like a rock someday.
