that's what a lot of people say, but if you look at the diagrams at skyscraperpage.com the Los Angeles buildings are a lot taller than Atlanta

Most LA buildings are scattered in a bunch, glendale, westwood, century city, all have pretty decent skylines but are scattered

so actually, Atlanta is a lot smaller than LAquote>

Yea, "MOST" LA buildings are taller than the ones in Atlanta.

But Atlanta is the 3rd tallest city in the states, yes only, third to NYC, and CHI.

For the Downtown thing though, I don't know which is bigger.

But Atlanta has three or maybe even more districts. Put them all together, well still don't know.

Downtown, Midtown, Buckhead, Sandy Springs, Dunwoody .. etc.

Downtown is overrated when it comes to buildings, but if you're talking about Companies, Atlanta has alot more major ones. But if we're going to talk about Entertainment, there is no doubt that Los Angeles is the "KING".

I was from Orange County, and been to Los Angeles lots of times. I love it.

----

Sorry about the obsession my friend. I guess This things should be in the Atlanta Thread, sorry once again.

Just give your thoughts about Atlanta, on my Atlanta Thread.

This is an LA Thread, and we should respect that by posting only about LA, and what beauty it yields.

I kindly request this as the last post about Atlanta. Or if the creator of the topic allows comparisson between the two, let the title be changed.

Thank you.

-----

Yes, LA and its surrounding neighborhood is enourmous.

But I thought NYC is the biggest City. With 5 boroughs around and a pop. of over 8million.

I hope this brings no comparisson with NYC. But I'm just curious about this one.

Since this thread is about Los Angeles, let me give a few words about it.

Los Angeles Traffic is Unbearable! I guess all of you knows that.

It is a crowded city, let's admit that.

Organized crime exists in this city more than any that I know of.

The surrounding Cities are "METRO LOS ANGELES" or "LOS ANGELES COUNTY" but not part of the city itself.

It claims that Disneyland / California Adventure is theirs, it is not. It is in Anaheim, CA, where I'm from. It is 30miles down south of LA.

It is a very expensive city to live in. Gas, food, transportation, real estate and etc. are really expensive. I guess if you don't have much money, it is practical to "NOT" live in LA.

The good things are:

LA is a city to be in when it comes to entertainment, dining and shopping.

The Skyline is really great.

Gotta Love Six Flags

Universal Studios -- Major Attraction

Lots of Museums and Art galores -- I love the Getty.

Transportation is good as well, Blue Line (North-South) Green Line (LAX E-West)

Red line (Subway) and more, I just forgot.

And that's just about it. (Don't hate me) haha.

@dOwntOwnbUzz: Um...aren't you overeacting a little?(or were you upset at Need4camaro?)

I simply implied that there is a structure in another city thats barely taller than our tallest.

And thats only by the complete structure height.

The U.S. Bank Tower is actually taller than Bank of America Plaza in stories.2.gif

And by the way, I don't know where you got those numbers, but they are inaccurate.

Toronto does NOT have more buildings than Chicago.

If those numbers mean about every single building in those greater suburb areas, Tokyo and Los Angeles dwarf Chicago Toronto and New York City , because Victorville, California City, Lancaster-Palmdale, Hesparia, Barstow and the rest of the Mojave Northern Basin is booming with suburban sprawl.  That high desert is even bigger than Long Island!

Fact: Los Angeles has more museums than any other city in the United States.

    *stands up proudly* 19.gif

I don't really go to museums though. 41.gif

*sighs* i thought having someone creating an ATL thread that this would end.

no wasn't mad at anybody, all i saw is somebody comparing ATL to LA, i do not have a huge problem with that because like ATL

but when people are asking me if LA's downtown is smaller, than i thought it would be in the LA's threads best interest to prove that LA has more buildings

ATL downtown may be bigger, but if you were to take all the buildings over 500 ft. in LA there is twice as much in ATL

and those numbers are correct because the numbers are all buildings either built or being constructed.... so they are gonna be a little bigger than you'd think

I'm glad we're done with this LA vs ATL business.. because there really isn't a comparison.

Anyways, I was just looking over the stats from the Census 2000, and the West had an overall 20% population increase (the South had a lower percentage but more total people)..

In the next 10 years, I think we're going to see more western/southwestern cities in the Top 20 and more western metro areas climbing up the area rankings. And that means all the East coasters can start warming up to palm trees, good weather, and beautiful people because they're eventually going to be living here, hahahh.

OK, it's understandable, that the "Angelinos" love their own city, I guess everbody is doing that in some way. But for me, L.A. is showing how a City should not be. It's an amorphous swamp of concrete, lowrises and freeways, spreading like cancer and absorbing the landscape of southern California. L.A. has the highest concentration of cars on the world, the public transportation is a catastrophy, even when compared to the low average standard in the US in general. Due to the decision to make this city follow the needs of cars, not it's inhabitants, it's now spreading 71 km from north to south and 47 km in east to west direction, resulting in commute times of up to several hours. I wonder how long it will take for this City to collapse into oblivion, once mobilty becomes a luxury after the US manged to burn the global Oil-ressources....

Apart from that L.A. can offer Earthquakes, smog, unbearable heat in the summer, one of the highest crime rates in world, a de facto seperation of the races, both by geography and by income, a corrupt police, etc...

There's more to a city than pretty skyscrapers and glamorous movie studios.

I still love L.A, but yes, LA isn't really much of a Role Model to other growing cities.

Do you want Los Angeles and Southern California to be more crowded as it is right now?

Let the other people go to Idaho, or Montana or something, than to go down SoCal and live in apartments or houses up in the hot deserts. No one can really afford real estate in SoCal. Plus everything is expensive. The crime... Traffic is unbearable, and still does this people want to move into SoCal? Now I think that wouldn't be practical. Stay in the East Coast or move up to Northeast US.

Or move to Atlanta.. (just kidding, we can't talk about Atlanta now!) haha.

    Don't hate me! ... please..

come on guys are kidding? LA is how a city shouldn't be? ok first off it is impossible to find two cities that are alitke, no matter how close or how far a lot of things are different, culture, popularity, tourism, crime, and total way of life

and people move to so cal because it is better, yeah life sucks for commuters but the weather is awesome, it rains here like ten times a year and it's always sunny, and always warm

hhmm let's compare in the winter:

in new york, i just woke up and i wan't to go outside and get the paper, uhoh, i have to put on socks, shoes, shirt, PANTS, jacket and a warm hat

in los angeles, i just woke up and i wan't to go outside and get the paper, ok, i'll go out in boxer shorts because i know it's a perfect 70*

and people are different in LA, lots of different types of people, from laid back surfers to business men

In that case, if people wanted to go to California for the weather, why not just go to San Fan that has about the same weather as LA? Or better yet, San Diego. (Just curious)

yes San Diego is awesom, big military town so lots of tourists, but San Franciso can get windy and cold but it's still beautiful in the summer

No it is not, I have lived around LA and it is freaking hot in the summer. I'd say it goes up to 97 up to 100 (Many people died this summer because of the heat). And in winter it goes into 58 to 65 something. It is not a perfect 70. I think San Diego is the only city that I know that has a perfect 70.

I know Los Angeles. And if someone has been living there couple months or couple years, yes. Of course, you'd say that it is the best city in the world. But for me, I've lived in the area for what? 18 yrs? It sucks!

What sucks is, It is very expensive! I'll tell ya. Coz I'd rather live in Seattle (Which I might add a beautiful livable place)

Real Estate, Transportation, and the cost of living are really expensive. I've lived about there, so I'd know. Plus, LA has a lot of people who thinks they have to have everything. A lot, I mean, alot are moving from LA to Anaheim, Huntington Beach, Mission Viejo, Fullerton, just to get away from the Los Angeles Atmosphere. Oh, did I tell you its very crowded?

Los Angeles has a good reputation of being a "Tourist Haven" but, for the locals, you have to struggle on working, and working, and working, because working isn't enough to support your lifestyle when you're in LA.

Sorry, that's the truth. I love LA, but not a place to live in.

well if u like seattle then move to seattle second not every place in la is expensive and for the weather i used to live in vegas a couple of years and LA does not get into the +100 vegas will be like 110 or 120 so LA is a rare mediteranean climate not much in the world and san deigo is cool to but not as cool as LA

La has hunderds of differnt races and nations in the city more the new york or any other city were soon going to overthrow new york by population

and for the pollution it is really over exaggerated so what if we dont have alot of mass transit and we have millions cars other cities have the problem and its not just LA fault the whole world plays a part in pollution and we just need to find ways to prevent pollution and the slow destruction of earth instead of blaming LA

    DISNEYLAND IS NOT IN LA!

It is in a city 30 miles south of Los Angeles. And its Anaheim, CA!

It is not in Metro L.A, or even in Los Angeles County, or even close to the closest city within Los Angeles County.

Its not a suburb of Los Angeles. Anaheim is big enough to have its own commercial district. Well they have plans.

(lived there for a long long time, so again I'd know)

It is in the famous Orange County.

But yea, don't hate me. please? haha. peace.

@mayorron:  Well in my book, Anaheim is indeed a suburb of L.A. just as New Jersey is a suburb of New York.

    (but peace too!)

The only thing keeping people in Manhatten is its subway system.....without it, the Big Apple would be history.

Eventually, L.A. will get an efficient MTA system, there are already plans on it!

Ever heard of the Red line, Gold Line and Green line extensions?

Oh no, haven't heard of those extensions. Well, yea a good transportation system is a must for an internationally known city.

New York, has a pretty good one.

AND NO!!! JDRCRASH! ANAHEIM IS NOT A SUBURB OF LOS ANGELES. EVERYONE KNOWS IT! haha, peace brother.

LONG LIVE ANAHEIM! -- not a suburb! hahaha. not a suburb.

Anyway, most of the past few post about Los Angeles has been harsh. Let's think positive now.

ANAHEIM is a suburb of LA from malibu to san bernadino to laguna beach and Riverside they are all subrbs and neighbors they all belong to LA if they wernt LA suburbs  then LA would be one of the smallest cities in this country

According to the california travel book even COMPTON is a suburb but it is called one of LA inner cities because its known for its crimes

AND  ANAHEIM is not south of LA its 30 miles south u would fine ur self around CARSON or maybe Long Beach Bad neigborhoods its EAST Of LA

yeah east LA is really the only bad neighborhood in the metropolitan area, i mean besides compton and inglewood, once you start getting north, then you got problems, like Fresno, and San Jose, not very nice places, but the main thing about LA that is different from all the other major cities is that the people are nice, i know not all the people are nice but you happen to bump into somebody you find attractive WHAT DO Y OU SAY!?!? ... WAIT, you're in LA, talk about how beautiful the weather is, now if that happened in Seattle(which has the highest rate of suicides) you'd have to actually think of something to say to a girl... i know, freaky huh?

but it's ok cause suddam is dead39.gif17.gif44.gif

Well, Its approximately 26 miles southeast of Los Angeles.

Is Anaheim a suburb of Los Angeles? No, Anaheim is located in Orange County. Orange County, California was formally organized as a political entity separate from the County of Los Angeles in 1889.

Let's play nice, now. I'm sure we can all agree to disagree about the status of Anaheim in relation to LA. I like Manhattan Beach myself, is that considered a suburb?
