sorry polish boy, but most of poland is build illegally on old german (prussian) country. this land that you now call polish is ancient german territory, where most of our history happend. believe me, sooner or later germany will get back what is ours.quote>

Shameful.....

it's more like 1,000,000 although a lot of Poles are realising that Great Britain is a ****hole and although the money seems bigger, prices more than match the pay

and if they came to Britain for the "culture" then they can just pop down for Polish bread, beer and magazines in your nearest newsagentquote>

Oh dear......such a shame people have seen that message and been given an absolutely ridiculous and 'dailymail-esque' impression of the country. Without immigrants from Poland and eastern Europe our construction industry would grind to a halt, we would lose hundreds if not thousands of doctors and nurses from the NHS, not to mention the plasterers, plumbers, bus drivers, farm labourers and pretty much the all the other jobs that lazy sponging British layabouts do not want to do.

Apparently they are too good for such work and instead spend their entire sorry existence spending my taxes, drinking beer, watching daytime TV and not contributing to the economy in any positive aspect whatsoever. Give me a hard working Polish person any day over those disgraceful citizens.

They are perfectly entitled to have the choice of going to a European supermarket and buying native food, you should open your mind and your eyes a little more and then maybe you would be able to see past your warped xenophobic mindset. Many Polish people have arrived here, been welcomed, worked and paid their taxes as well as supported local communities and services and many have now brought their families over to make a life in the UK. That is fantastic and they should be welcomed if they are here to contribute, which the vast majority are.

As for Poland being the new 'it' country...no its not. It won't be for a very long time and its also not like Ireland either. As someone mentioned they are more at a stage where Ireland was in the mid-1980's. This is before the 'celtic tiger' started and Ireland became an immensely wealthy country. Poland has a very long way to go before that happens.

Also Brussels is the 'capital' of Europe in the sense of the European Union.

I've been to Krakow, it's a wonderful city. Also, cheap alcohol and they serve 17 year olds 9.gif

Oh and roughly 500,000 of the 1,000,000 Poles that came to Britain have returned home apparently.

why does everyone assume i read the daily mail?

belfastuniguy of course you do realise that the homes they are building wouldn't have to be built if they never moved in here in the first place. and the situation here does put a lot of strain on families whenever somebody moves abroad especially just for work and not taking their family with them especially when Poland is taking off.

DON'T you DARE mention some tabloid and say "you read it" since i am too cynical even for The Guardian.  This is cheap disgusting lousy name calling which is exactly the kind of hypocrital statement that i absolutley detest. in the same way that some lousy comedian turns to George Bush jokes or Margaret Thatcher remarks for an easy, sneering smirk on everyone's face.

Because your comments are the epitome of an average Daily Mail reader. Completely misinformed with a total lack of understanding of the bigger picture. Maybe you don't read the Daily Mail but I seriously doubt you read something more respectable like the Guardian or The Times

hhhmmmmmm.......FALSE.

The majority of homes they are building are far out of their reach, lets all remember that the UK has some of highest property prices in the developed world, so its hardly as if a Polish immigrant is moving to the UK and buying a house. Lets not be silly. Firstly they need to have been working and living here for several years before being allowed to apply for a mortgage, as well as saving for a deposit and various other things.

That's called political parody and it is funny. Shows like Dead Ringers are a good example and for more intelligent parody, Bremner Bird and Fortune.

In my opinion you overprice Poland as a country... Of course it's developing rapidly but you forget about the bad/horrible sides of Poland and Polish people... I live in Poland and I'm Polish (as you probably see from my language) but I definitely can't call myself a patriot. It's mainly because polish mentality which grows up from soviet times... Polish governmental system is something that really stops the development of country... corruption everywhere , most people in the government are only looking for the way to earn as much money possible , no matter the others... Can you believe that we only have about 700km of highways for the whole country (which is not so much smaller than France or Germany) . The average length of highways build is 1.2 km per year... The cost of traveling by them is horrible 13 zlotys per about 50 km which means about 5$. The highways aren't also worth of that price... they are continuously renovated so they are not very different from typical rural roads... of course the price is not reduced... I have no idea how we are going to make it up before Euro 2012... The polish law is structured in way they disables most attempts to introduce some improvements... The Salaries: It's getting better but the statistically the average salary is about $1000 a month... but these are only statistics... the real salary is about $600. I don''t have to mention that for computer hardware and software is 20% more expensive in Poland just for no reason... The access to the Net: also getting better but only 20% of the society has possibility to get access to Internet. Also the prices... $24 per month of 1Mb/s access...

Cities: Only Warsaw and Krakow are a kind of big cities (~1 million of citizens) most so called cites are about 300 000 citizens and less...

There are a lot of simular riddicolous sitations in Poland but int's not tyhe time to describe them all... I can really tell you that Polish are stupid people who cannot take conclusion from their rough history and they are committing the same mistakes again and again... I'm going to move from Poland as soon as possible(after graduating from university. Thankfully at least higher education is free of charge in Poland)

Hey dudes!

I think many of overprices Poland in every way. sure Warsaw is a great nice and typical old european city but. But when the country is so nice why do more and more people go to other countris like germany Uk and spain? Its a fact that the poland is the country in eastern europe which is very oriented to the western europe and thats good. But nevertheless you overrestimate the situation of the country. And is it really a sign of great developement if in a country or in a city grow scyscrapers? i think no because in Istanbul there are also scyscrapers very high scyscrapers and economicly turkey is not very important in contrast to other countries in europe....sry for my very bad english^^
