What are your methods of handling garbage? If anyone has an alternative to using landfills, wastetech, or the garbage chute, please post it here. I'm developing nice cities but I'm sick of having to deal with garbage.

Thanks in advance.

devote a small city tile to all your garbage/power buildings.  it takes a long time to set up but make a city that has 15-20 waste to energy converters, buy garbage, and sell power.  I takes a fair amt of work to set up but its worth it.

edit: welcome to simtropolis!!

Thanks! That's a good idea, so I'll give it a shot.

Also: I've been lurking here for quite a while, and I'm sorry if this is a weak first post 15.gif

Maybe this is a given, but always check the Paper Waste Reduction Act ordinance, build recycyling centers, and check the Trash Presort requirement. The two ordinances are surprisingly effective at reducing the trash produced, and recyclying centers aren't as damaging to a neighborhood as landfills, etc.

I also use a "garbage city" but recently I've had some weird things going on. I have a region of about 2 million, with 2 main garbage centers at opposite sides of the map. Almost all of the cities are involved in some part of the garbage chain (only the smallest ones handle it on their own with recycling or small landfills).

After I changed the deal with one of the garbage cities, all of the cities connected to it had a spike in garbage into the 100s or 1000s. The garbage then goes down pretty quickly, as though the deal was turned off for a month, and then turned back on. It isn't a huge problem since the garbage does disapear again, but has anyone else noticed this?

Yeah, sircanis, I get that spike also. I think it's just the simulator taking time to catch up with what's going on. I get it with other neighbor deals as well, but everything seems to settle down pretty quickly with no harm done. I do suggest that if you change one neighbor deal, you check on the others involved, as sometimes I've had other neighbors deals "reset" themselves. Only happens sometimes, but THAT can be a major pain when it does!

Welcome to SimTropolis, if all else fails and you don't want to deal with landfills and all that dirty stuff go to the stex and download a garbage mod so you'll never have to deal with it again!! Good luck!
