Have one 60k city and a small airport lying directly diagonally from it (does this mean it is technically 2 tiles away?). Anyway, I was wondering how I can get sims to travel from the city/town to the airport? The bus does go from the airport somewhere, but airport usage is 0 at the moment.

Unfortunatly, due to Maxis/EA's way of programming, this is not possible. the airport(or a lot that functions like an airport, like the tramsystem & terminals included in swap) has to be in the city that need its effects. the only reason for building a major airport outside of the city is for asthetics and realism, since most cities dont have airports in their downtowns ^^

Or if they do, they are small and can only take smaller aircraft (London City is a good example, La Guardia is another)

London City is there so tourists don't have to travel so far if they want to go to the city.

As for your problem, it's not realistic, but if you build a small airport down town and surround it my small playing fields it doesn't lower desirability too much 4.gif

The La Guardia Airport example is bad because it's a major airport in New York accepting the big aircraft like 747's

Sky Harbor at Phoenix, AZ (PHX) is in the middle of town.  It is an international airport.

To add to what xiziz (lol... love that handle) said... Just wait till you get out far enough and your advisors start saying your airport is too small. Before long, you have 3-4 air strips, a few municipals and that last large one I can't remember the name of. Its kind of neat though. Remember the good old days when you just zoned an airstrip?

DC has a butt load of AirPorts, but the most important one is Regan, which kinda sits on the DC/Va line.

I wouldn't use Phoenix as an example of a typical city for anything. It's built like the pre-planned grids so many seem to hate. I loved living there, so easy to get around in a grid. The only thing I hated was the diagonal Grand avenue and the RR tracks. It was a nightmare getting through one of those intersections sometimes.

Now, correct me if I am wrong, but isn't LAX pretty much in-town? I know Chicago, Indiannapolis, Louisville, Columbus, and Cincinnati stick theirs kind of out of the way. Chicago used to have Miegs Field, which was a small airstrip on the lake, but the mayor shut it down for some reason a few years back. Heck, Cincinnati's airport isn't even in the same state, they stuck it in Florence, KY.
