Browser problem on Simtropolis

Hello I am new here... but I am having problems with using the Simtropolis forums. It seems that every time I put in something like a line break, an emoticon, and so on, they all turn into HTML tags in the resulting post. Like the below was input normally, and it's going to turn into stupid HTML tags:<br /><img src="/forum/i/expressions/42.gif" alt="" /><br />I am using Windows XP SP2 / Firefox 1.5.0.4, but the same problem happens to me on SeaMonkey and Internet Explorer. Additionally, the Preview doesn't work at all for me. I tried Opera too, where the line break works, but the whole toolbar doesn't appear at all so I can't actually do anything else. Does anyone have any idea what's wrong? (>_<)

Welcome;

We've got our own text editor now. The editor is compatable with Firefox and MSIE. The Preview Message feature might not be finished yet.

To insert and image, click this icon (mountain and sun) and follow the instructions in the window that pops up.

To insert a link highlight an area of text and click this icon (globe and chains). Follow the instructions in the window that pops up.

Emoticons can be inserted from this button. (smiley face)

If you would lik to insert a special character, click this (box with characters etched) and click on the character you want to insert.

Well, I can't go on to explain everything about this text editor, though.

    ummm... sorry, it seems sort of irrelevant to my problem? Or am I not explaining myself well... I am saying that when I enter a post, then everything besides plain text that I write here - like if I boldfaced some text, or if I inserted an emoticon, or if I inserted a line break - the corresponding HTML code is output instead of the formatted text...

    P.S. The problem seems to have temporarily (?) gone away for a while 42.gif but the Preview still does not work...

    Amorette, it seems everyone here likes Firefox, but I've had problems with it as well. I use Opera without html issues. You can use the keyboard to get the functions if the toolbar doesn't appear. It's funny with Opera...sometimes it's there and sometimes it's not. Is it possible that you have one of your extensions or plug-ins for Firefox configured so that it's giving you the html soup? Firefox is famous for that if you use a lot of extensions/plug-ins. Often they will conflict with each other. Wish I could be more helpful.

    Thanks for your reply. The thing is I had the problem with Firefox and Internet Explorer and SeaMonkey, so it wasn't Firefox-specific...

    Anyway I just hope the problem is not coming back now that, at least for now, the problem has disappeared...

    You have been told in another post you made about this same problem to use the "return" key as "line break" is not supported on ST

    Sorry but I also replied that I did use the return key? That's what I meant by line break. (How else do you do that except with the return key anyway?) In case the meaning is not clear, I mean that if I press return, then in the resulting post, a "<br />" will spit out. I hope that it is not taken as that I actually typed in "<br />" and then complained about it not coming out as a line break? That would be a really dumb complaint, wouldn't it?

    hmmm sorry I didn't catch your reply I guess.. Are you using some unusual keyboard? or unusual version PC? Perhaps you are using a Palm Pilot or some other handheld or something? Are you posting directly in the "reply window" or are you writing in a text editor of some sort, then copying to ST? I do understand what you are saying now, but that problem is very odd.. 4.gif There is an alternate way to make a "return" on most keyboards.. kind of a PITA to do I'm sure, but try this .. hold down "alt" key and type "010" *OOPS* it seems that the ST editor blocks any "alt codes" for keyboard entry. You might check out this web site and see if you find something that helps you set up your pc differently. I am supposing that you must have some unusual keyboard code in use.. Or now that the problem is more clearly stated someone on ST can answer your question.. I've been on here for many years and posting on the web for a century 4.gif and never seen a problem like yours.. LOL.. Do you have a problem on other web sites?

    Thanks for that cool link... Hmmm it wasn't just the line break, it was like even if I clicked things on the toolbar to say insert an emoticon, the emoticon would appear in the edit box fine, but when I actually posted the message, it's the HTML code that showed up... (like my first post at the top) But anyway, the problem seems to have subsided for now (don't know why?), so I'll whine a bit more if it happens again...

    P.S. Actually I don't seem to be the only one to have had this problem: https://www.simtropolis.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=22&threadid=79421&enterthread=y
