Serious problem with highway commute

I have a 100k+ city and everything goes well until I had this big residential building complaining about no job. I queried that building and realised that they travel all across my large city to the other end of my industrial hub. Anyway, they travel all the way there by highway. And they still complain. There's no congestion on that highway. Now what am I supposed to do? I cannot possibly upgrade that highway. There's nothing else to upgrade to. I also built monorails but only 1/4 of my city seem to use them.

Ps I also had another problem. It seems that when I query those idiotic sims, the query shows that they actually drive through some buildings. The arrow goes right through the buildings. What am I supposed to do about this?

Hey Kaploosh, i have also had the same problem with my city. After 2 - 3 months of My residential buildings go into no jobs, i have seeked alternative roots, like Trains, and highways, i have even put roads over the streets to ease the congestion, but it never seems to work.

Anyway i have fixed part of the problem, this is mainly my train line, i have about 92,000 sims living in this large city tile and i have completed only quarter of it.

Don't try and take advise from me Kaploosh, but i most of the time construct a railway line through where i want to put my residential zone.

if this dosn't work, then i think you should ask the experts. i mean they are really good at this sort of stuff.

Solving commute for sims or freight is frustrating, even with Nam.

How 'bout this - I have 3 sections of a city in development, where one industrial zone has rail and road to ports and or stations near by. All the freight times are short, ok good. If I connect a road from the larger area to the smaller city section where the next closest freight station is 2x the distance, the freight from that one area switches from short times to rail to long times to road. grrrrr Now what kind of crap is that?

I seriously would like an option to be able to broadcast a msg to all city sims, "Look, get your jazz in one sock. You see these nuke tools at my fingertips? Don't piss me off."

Hey, Kaploosh...I don't know what type of pathfinding you're using, but if you "upgrade" within the NAM or use one of the mods, that may help the problem. Problems like that frustrate me also...right up there with a sim driving four tiles or across the street to work. Then theesalsthe somewhat extrme fix of chopping off a section of highway to force them to use alternative transit. It actually works, sometimes.

Hi there. What you need to do is tax your R$$$ at about 11.5%. This is because far to many R$$$ sims reside in a city even when there are no jobs available for them. You need to tax the 'excess' R$$$ sims out of your city - there are no jobs available for them. CO$$$, CS$$$ and HT industry only provide a small amount of jobs to R$$$ sims. A lot of the available jobs will go to R$ and R$$ sims. So even if you have heaps of CO$$$, CS$$$ and HT industry jobs, if you have a lot of R$$$, your R$$$ will display the no job zot and abandon. I know this will be heaps of help. Let me know how it goes. Cheers.
