Hey Giorgios, what's that building next to it with the pyramid?? That looks interesting too. Love the model of the Eureka tower... And I reiterate Daniel's question: Why wasn't it uploaded???? 15.gif That would've been awesome. The Q1 Tower on the Gold Coast should be simple enough to design, considering the shape reflects a building already on the STEX...

Hi Edude, the building with the pyramid on the top do you mean?

That building was added in Rush Hour.

In other words, its a Maxis Building

Well i like that Eureka Tower BAT, but I think it isn't tall enough. I see it everyday (most days actually) and it looks much, much bigger!

You have got the shape perfect though, well done!

I would love to see Spencer Street Station/Southern Cross Station being BATted!

    That would be insane!

Well, I figured it's about time to add some stuff here.. I thought I'd give you all some eye-candy, and maybe inspire a few Aussie BATters to pick up the mouse and start designing (I am still at very basic level, so no hope of me getting any out there anytime soon).

Sydney: http://www.emporis.com/en/wm/ci/bu/?id=100503 - the nation's largest (and most beautiful imho) city

Melbourne: http://www.emporis.com/en/wm/ci/?id=100504 - second largest, second rate, second best 3.gif Heheh Only kidding Melbournians, a beautiful city in it's own right.. (just try and get the buildings to work together a bit more won't you guys? A veritable mish-mash of styles)

Brisbane: http://www.emporis.com/en/wm/ci/?id=100505 - for some reason also known as BrisVegas - a nickname I despise, but a pretty city

Perth: http://www.emporis.com/en/wm/ci/?id=100506 - the growing capital of Western Australia - not too long ago it was no bigger than my home town...

Adelaide: http://www.emporis.com/en/wm/ci/?id=100507 - capital of South Australia, with fantastic federation-style architecture

Gold Coast City: http://www.emporis.com/en/wm/ci/?id=100510  - where you can find Q1 - currently the highest all-residential tower in the world

Canberra: http://www.emporis.com/en/wm/ci/?id=100509  - not so high rise capital city, but some interesting buildings none-the-less... I am wanting to BAT the new Parliament House, as it is aesthetically appealing, and would look great in either Canberra Waters, or Kookaborough (sorry, fellow Aussies, it was a play on words, and I felt patriotic)

Bondi Junction: http://www.emporis.com/en/wm/ci/?id=104867  - a high-rise satellite of Sydney, which is now part of the city

Wollongong: http://www.emporis.com/en/wm/ci/?id=100511  - only because it's my home town 9.gif

Hobart: http://www.emporis.com/en/wm/ci/?id=100512 - capital of the Apple Isle of Tasmania... Smaller than my hometown 2.gif

Darwin: http://www.emporis.com/en/wm/ci/?id=101465 - interestingly enough, not one of the top 20 largest cities in Australia...Capital of the Northern Territory, and the only Australian capital in the Tropics

Townsville: http://www.emporis.com/en/wm/ci/?id=102396  - my favourite Tropical City, and it is the 20th largest city in the country... It has actually overtaken Cairns in size, and Cairns is out of the top 20

Cairns: http://www.emporis.com/en/wm/ci/?id=102035  - another Tropical city - not sure how far from being in the top 20 it is, but there you go....

Anyway, hope you found something to interest you in that lot... For the overseas visitors, here's just a hint of what our cities look like, and the styles of architecture around. Enjoy 3.gif9.gif

Well time for an update... Wollongong is thinking of conducting an architectural competition for designing the new look of the city centre. All buildings to be built in the CBD are to be architecturally designed and approved according to the look and feel of the area, with a gradation of heights from the sea front towards the escarpment, so low sea front, high-rise around Wollongong station. This would be an awesome tool for Sim City 5: restrict bulding heights for areas and control what gets built. That brown hi-rise is annoying.

Anyway I digress. Wollongong's aim is to have the city reflect the area in which it has developed between mountains and sea, and they have provided for viewing areas, and vistas along roads. To have a look at the ideas being proposed, go to the website: http://www.planning.nsw.gov.au/wollongong/overview/

The picture is Wollongong Harbour... Wish we could have ground level views of our cities.... 2.gif

Wollongong's a decent place. The harbour looks great, but the CBD itself needs a little bit of a cleanup. But it has immense potential, especially with the Escarpment as the backdrop (I don't know if you've seen my Wollongong map on the STEX, but it really does look stunning in-game. I don't live in Wollongong though I'm not that far away (I'm currently a hobbit, and may soon live a bit further south, somewhere around Helensburgh).

I'm definitely encouraged by the plans for Wollongong. Hopefully the plans for the Central Coast and Newcastle will be just as well conceived.

I am planning some maps of the surf coast in Victoria. I hope to make Airey's Inlet (my favourite holiday destination in the world3.gif) Torquay and Lorne.

Wouldn't It be a cool idea to make a selection of Aussie maps and BATs etc all under a small group like BSC or NHP?

Why not make an Aussie Architechture Alliance or something... (AAA does sound pretty cool!)

    Just a thought...

That was my original intention in creating this thread, to see if I could generate interest from Australian members of Simtrop... I am very early BAT so I am still on tutorials and stuff. It would be great if we had a team of devoted detailists on downunder digs... (sorry, just wanted to alliterate as well 9.gif). There are so many people doing great work, like Deadwoods with his supermarket and tyre centre chains etc, that we should definitely have a bigger and more obvious presence on the STEX. Currently I am being a traitor by trying to BAT the Dublin Spire (mainly cos it looks to be the easiest to get the basic shape right lol, but also cos no-one else has done it), but I would love to be part of a team working on Aussie content for the STEX. We currently have the tallest and second tallest purely residential towers in the world, and we have a variety of new-age and sustainable architectural design, that we really should be showcasing to the world. AAA sounds like a great name! Come on fellow Aussie BATters!!! Let's show 'em what we've got!

Cammo: I have seen it on the STEX, haven't downloaded as yet, as I hand drew my own Illawarra map, and have been playing it... My system couldn't handle another region lol, it's overloaded with a lot of plugins... I think Taipei101 sent it over the edge... How far south does it go? Do you have Lake Illawarra included? I may just be able to get a download on my nephew's game...

You've got the Hobart Casino... That'd be pretty cool imo... There are a couple of historic buildings which would also look good, otherwise, yes, I think you are pretty much out of it in terms of architecture 3.gif

I'd love to see Uluru (Ayer's Rock) BATted.. That would be great to plop in the middle of a city...

Well you've already got a Hobart map for Tasmania, albeit scaled wrong (my fault. AAARRRGGGHHH. Properly scaled version coming shortly.

The Wollongong Map gets down to just a little bit south of Dunmore Station. It's rather large. BTW, a suggestion I might give you: yank out your plugins (aside from any desired terrain mods) while rendering a region. It renders a LOT quicker, at least, that's definitely the case with my Hobart region.3 hours as opposed to several days (I got frustrated with the renders where the plugins were still in and cut them short. But the difference was amazing.

I hear ya! But yeah I did mean Wrest Point Casino. I've always liked that building (don't ask why or what it is about it, I just do). Anyway, if something could develop among us Aussies we could be a force to reckon with especially with an accurate Centrepoint (AMP) Tower, and a number of buildings from our unique cities. Our national Parliament House should be among the most beautiful BATs out there, if someone would just BAT it. I'd love to tackle that project but there is absolutely no way I am up to that level now or anytime in the forseeable future. Well, hopefully interest can be generated. I tried posting in the request thread but American landmarks and utilities seem to be favoured, so have given up on that idea.

I'll join you on that front hydra, I am still on basic shapes with basic textures and lighting, but as yet not in the SC4 context... fingers crossed, then we can get a project started.

The Gravity project in Wollongong should be beginning work soon... It will have two mid-rise towers (the tallest for the city so far) and should be an intersting design, from what I gather. Anyway, pics when I get them, and hopefully, some BAT work can be started 3.gif
