SC4 won't run again after I quit (only PC reboot solves it)

I'm having this odd problem where if I quit SC4 and try to run it again, it won't run.

I get a "sc4 encountered a problem and needs to close" error. The error signature I get says "ModName: ~df394b.tmp". I don't know what this file is and searching for it doesn't turn up any results.

Any suggestions for a fix?

As a temporary workaround, rebooting the PC seems to "reset" it. But if I try to run it twice, it fails on the second try.

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling? Maybe it didn't install properly.

I reinstalled it twice.

Oddly, this time it doesn't run the second time but in a different way: the bridge image splashscreen just sits there and the cpu uses 50% (since I have dual cpu) doing nothing. I have to end the process. I didn't install ANY plugins or patches.

No, that is the temp file for sim city 4 if i remember correctly.  You need that to run the game. All windows programs require temp files inorder to run.  As far as i know there's no way to fix it unless you debug it.

Try increasing page file size, might help, otherwise you might be stuck with reinstalling Windows, i had this problem and opted for the second option, it was due for me anyway. might help for you to. oh, and its recomended you install all patches anyway! they do fix problems you now
