Problems with CO-$$$

I'm having a problem with Co$$$. They won't fill up any of my zones that I have placed for them!

saline2.png

I know that I haven’t hit a demand cap (I have plenty of parks and the Ritz Carlton (sp?) Hotel by Simgoober.), the demand for Co$$$ is over 6000, and the location is very desirable! This is only a problem with Co$$$, and not Co$$. This wasn't a problem with any other city, and I have not recently downloaded any mods or buildings. Any ideas on what the problem is, or how to fix it? Thanks in advance.

How are you determining the desirability of the location? I find the dataviews are not very helpful with this, as they don't show enough variation in the colours. Usually I query nearby buildings to check things like traffic and garbage.

The most important factors in reducing desirability for CO$$$ according to the Prima Guide and listed in descending order of effect are Radiation, Crime, Garbage, Air Pollution, Commercial YIMBY/NIMBY, Traffic/Customers (Low is bad), Long distance from other CO$$$, and low land value.

Looking at your map, the problem may be low customers, and possibly distance from other CO$$$, especially if you have none already in your city.

With regard to parks, you need to choose the right ones. Different parks increase the YIMBY by different ammounts, and also affect residential and commercial differently. You want to find the smallest parks that have the highest effect on commercial and for the greatest radius. For example the basketball court, community gardens and cemetaries have no effect at all on commercial. The large plaza has an effect of 80 on commercial, but the minor league stadium which is much bigger, only has an effect of 50. The plazas of different sizes seem to be better for commercial than other kinds of parks, so you may want to use more of these in your commercial area.

The other item to consider is education.  In addition to your education level graph, check your education by age.  You need some older R§§§ in high education brackets to provide executive for Co§§§.  You also need lots of R§§ for knowledge workers and R§ as low level staff, gofers, mail clerks, etc.

Sam is quite correct about plazas.  Flower gardens also help, and if you have the NAM, a pedestrian mall or two with bus/subway/GLR in them help too.

With zone growth, it always boils down to the two D's, demand and desirability. You need to have the two present, else nothing will grow. Since you have demand, then desirability might be the issue.

Regarding the dataviews, you might want to search the STEX for the THL DataView Detail Mod v1.0. The description is as follows: "This mod increases the detail visible on the high end of the color spectum for the Desirability, Mayor Rating, and Land Value data views, allowing more distinction where areas of a city used to be solid green. It also increases the max value visible on the Mayor Rating Graph from 100 to the game maximum of 128."

Thanks for the responses. The way I determined the desirability is by using the data view. The part I circled is the most desirable place in my entire city for Co$$$, according to the data view. I know about the park issue, and that plazas are the best for Co. I have (I think) three large plazas in that area I circled. If it helps, my education is about 170. Just so you know, I have this problem over my entire city. There is not one Co$$$ building anywhere!

On your expanded demand chart is the Co§§§ demand bar maxed?  If so, make sure your zoned lots are either 3 x 3 or 4 x 4 and you should get something.

Try dropping in another landmark if that doesn't work.

And check your services.  You for sure need fire coverage and police coverage.  Also, make sure you have good connections for the Sims.  Mass transit is good (subway, rail, monorail, GLR).

Oh, and how many Sim-years has your city run?  It needs to be quite old to get buildings at this level.

    N_O_Body,

The expanded bar is maxed out and I have ran the city for almost 90 years now. I have a land mark next to my zones almost all of which are 3 x 3 (one or two 4 x 4's)

Do you have police and fire coverage?  How is your pollution on that area?

With a Co§§§ demand of 6000, you should be getting buildings to grow if you have high desirability. It sounds to me like you have some bug, maybe related to a mod that somehow suppresses Co§§§ growth. The only mod I can remember that really does this (i.e. not a bug) is the one by Bones1 that increases the desirability requirements for certain buildings to grow. By any chance did you install this?

N_O_Body: Yes I do have coverage with both services.

Peorth: Actually I did install Bones1 mod and forgot about it. I'l uninstall it and update in a hour or so...
