Problems Loading Custom Regions

I am trying to install a custom map for a region I have just made and the bugger is not working. I created the region, copied over the config file to the regions folder, and went back into the game, loaded the region and made sure the config loaded properly and it did. I then press ALT-SHIFT-CTRL-R and brought up the menu to load the map and when I located the map and hit ok, the game doesn't do anything. It doesn't bring up the screen that says its generating the terrain, it doesn't do anything. The game is not locked up, it just doesn't want to load maps.

I have been the playing the game for a while and I am not really new at this and that is why this frustrates me so much. The only difference between maps I have previously loaded and this time is that I am playing the game on a different, newer, laptop. I do not think it is a laptop issue because the laptop exceeds even the recommended requirements for the game.

Any help here would be greatly appreciated, I want to play my Simcity!

I don't think it is a problem with your computer. I would recommend going back to your image editor and checking that you map is true greyscale. The image you try to import must have a pallet of 256 grey shades (or 256 colours), not 16.7 million colours. In my experience this is by far the most common cause of the problem you are having. Most image editors can easily convert a true colour image to greyscale at the touch of a button, so its a really quick fix and then it should all work ok.

Cool deal, I will give it a try. I figured most of the lots off of here would be okay but I will double check to be sure. Thanks.

I have imported a map in grey scale into the downloads/regions folder. I have loaded the game and pressed alt=ctrl-shift-r and in the screen I can't find the right folder.

Under what folder should I find the imported bitmap? All I see are folders that bear no similarity to the downloads/region folder I put the bitmap in.

    Can someone help me?

The best place to save files is the hard drive root (c:\) as that's the first place it looks...

The map will be where you said to put it.  However, there is more to this than that.

    1.  You must create the new region sub folder in your regions folder.

    2.  You must load the config.bmp layout map into this folder

    3.  You can optionally copy the bit map in this folder too (probably a good policy)

You then can open the new region by its name, and then press alt+ctl+shift+r

I have tried downloading custom regions, but i am kind of embarrased because I cannot figure out how to download them. It says 'right click-save as' but i can only download the greyscale picture; i cant get the actual region.

the reason all you get is a greyscale is because thats what the file is!!!

to convert the greyscale into an actual region, you must create a region, then press ctrl-shift-alt-r and browse until you find the greyscale image. wait about 10-30 minutes(depending on your computer, size of region, etc) and voila! you now have the region you downloaded

If you read my reply thread above, you would see how to do this.  Using greyscales can only be done by invoking the renderer.  In addition to the greyscale you also need the config.bmp file, both installed in your region, which must be subfolder of the regions folder.
