Game won't save - screen freezes

There's a big kiss in this for anybody that can put me out of my grief. Have just reloaded SC4 & RH after major crashes, no other downloads or plugins except for one map that I have downloaded and imported with success.

I can open the game, even the regions and make changes, however when I try to save and exit region, the game freezes. Now not being the most computor literate person around, I require someone to explain in layman terms what could be the problem....cause all I wanna do is build.

Here's hoping my SC nightmares will soon be over. My beloved Oahu had to be ditched and I'm having to start all over again.

    cheers

My condolences, farmerjon, I get what I think is the same thing (or something similar). Sometimes, when I hit the "save" button, the game just stops responding (and does not save. Once upon a time, I had freezeups, but the game would save first, so all I had to do was fire it up again and resume from where I left off - alas, no longer).

I have only a few mods (NAM, ground fog, industry quadrupler, STRT, a couple of others - nothing radical). My plugins folder is well organized and about 500 mB. I have a P4 1.6 gHz processor, 768 megs of memory, ATI Radeon 9600 128 meg video card.

I save frequently, so that when this happens, I don't lose much work, but it's really annoying, and I hope someone can explain it (I know there's a thread where discussion of a similar problem has taken place, but there isn't much more there than shoulder shrugging and a great throwing up of hands).

Give the gurus some more detail on your system, fj, and maybe one of the pantheon will have a solution. I ain't promisin' to smooch 'em for it, however...

Thank you quick response pasternakski, just had a check of imported map file and notice a readme file there. Removed from map folder and fired game up again, and fingers crossed looks like it has resolved the problem. So that's resolved problem one. Now I have to determine which file in my plugins conflicts with Gmax.

I remember the days of SC1, yes simplistic but never had any grief : )

If you're getting the occasional freeze on save due to performance reasons, try pausing the game before you save. Pause, wait as few seconds, then save. That should free up some performance for the save, and might prevent a crash or freeze.

It could simply be the performance of the computer after the computer crashed. I really hope you resolve your problem 4.gif
