Too many computers, so little time!

I thought it would be interesting if I brought this up... well, most of these computers I own I got for free (and for, like, 10 bucks at garage sales, lol), and I thought I'd talk about them.
My favorite is my Apple IIgs (the picture is from Wiki). I must admit, it is still fun to use, especially having a color screen and very good performance (unfortunatly, talking in term's of Today's computers, it's performance is sub-standard, but what do I care? 2.gif). I use it every once in a while. I got it (or at least my parents did) in 1989. It has the ROM 3, 7 MBs of RAM, 2 CD-rom Drives (from a garage sale), an accelerator card, 10BASE-T Ethernet card, and 4 games (California Games, Lemmings(rofl), Paperboy, and Zany Golf). Luckily, the computer still lives. However, the monitor has gone out several times and has been starting to get worse.... 41.gif I hope an old lady at some garage sale will be willing to sell me a new IIgs monitor! 3.gif

Then I have an Amiga. Well HAD one. Sadly, the computer's CPU burnt out. R.I.P. 15.gif I think the one we got was a floop, because it was already acting up really bad.
And then I have one heck of a screamer: the G5. 37.gif I pretty much only use it when my creative side is itching (I think Macintoshes are for creative people, really) I use Soundtrack Pro, Photoshop CS2 (and every other CS2 thing), Enigmo 2, Widgets, and Safari (for my Wikiholism).

That last baby there is my precious little monster machine! Here is it's stats:

I have a horse of a laptop.

It's a Compaq Presario R3000 with a 15.5" widescreen monitor, AMD Athlon 64 3400+ Processor, 1 Gig of RAM, nVidia GeForce4 440, 200GB Storage, DVD+-RW, 12 cell battery, and a boatload of connections.  It weighs a trillion pounds!  More like a semi-mobile desktop than a laptop.  But you can't really find a small laptop with a gamer's needs.3.gif

But that doesn't even compare to your G5.  Now that's just sweet.  My dad works on the most tricked out of those power houses.  You are one lucky guy.

We used to have a super old Mac Classic.  But we sold it in a garage sale for like $20.  It worked fine but there wasn't much to do with it.

I'm a major Apple (computers) fan.  Unfortunately I had to move to Windows a while back because of the gaming restrictions of Macs.

While that origional post was rather hard to follow, I have decided to make a little contribution to this thread myself. I own 2 computers, both are Dells ( 14.gif)

The first Dell, which we bought in 2001, has the following stats:

CPU: Intel Pentium 4 (2.4ghz)
RAM: 256mb RAMBUS
GPU: Nvidia GeForce 4 MX 420
HD: Maxtor 30gb 7200 RPM
OS: Windows XP Home

It was pretty terrible for games, and absolutely refused to play any modern games, so in December of last year, I decided it was time to upgrade.

For Christmas, I got a brand new Dell XPS 400 desktop, which runs all my games flawlessly.

CPU: Intel Pentium D (3.0ghz)
RAM: 1gb DDR2 SDRAM
GPU: Nvidia GeForce 6800 GT
HD: Maxtor 250gb 7200 RPM
OS: Windows XP Home

The very first computer my family owned was an IBM Desktop that ran Windows 95, but we got rid of it in 2001 when we got the first Dell. Looking back, I wish we would have kept it. 15.gif

Eh. I think those computers aimed at "gamers" like the XPS are way overpriced. You can customize a normal HP or Compaq with similar stats for a lot less. I stay away from Dell. I've heard a lot of bad things about them. But I (and my family) have only owned generations of Apple and Compaq computers.

My 1999 computer doesn't even have ethernet (But you have to take into account that it's a Packard Bell, one of the worst computer manufacturers to grace the face of the Earth.

or Mac G5 fully configured (top spec) which ASTOUNDINGLY IS A MAC WITH ACTUAL COMPUTING POWER!

looky here:

4x 2.6ghz intel procs

8x 2gb PC553 RAM (16GB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

2x 500gb hard drive

some stupidly powerful graphics card (BUT its an nvidia ewww...)

all that and then you install boot camp and windows XP and never ever touch stupid Mac OS X again.quote>

Where to start... ?

Clock speed does not equal computing power!!!

The PowerMac G5 uses an IBM PowerPC G5 processor, not the Intel Core Duo/Solo.  And it doesn't have 4 CPUs.  It has 2 dual core processors operating at 2.5GHz, for a total of four cores.

The Quadro line of graphics cards by nVidia are designed for 3D rendering with 3DS Max, Maya, etc.  The G5 does come with a x16 PCI-Express slot, so you can foul it up with ATi if you want.

Don't know why you would call the G5 the only Mac with computing power, as the newer ones use Intel chips, which you seem to be such a fan of.

Windows XP will only work on the new Mac Mini, new iMac, and MacBook Pro.  So you would be stuck with "stupid Mac OS X".

My computer is nice.  I'm looking to get some upgrades for Christmas, though.

AMD Athlon 64 3700+ San Diego at 2.2GHz

1GB PC 3200 DDR SDRAM

MSI nVidia GeForce 7900GT

Barracuda 250GB HDD at 7200RPM

Windows XP Media Center Edition

Someone doesn't know very much about Macs......

Firstly, the PowerMac G5 uses a PowerPC processor, not Intel, thus, bootcamp will not run on it. Even if it did, Windows XP wouldn't be able to use anywhere near the computers full power, as Windows XP home (The OS Bootcamp allows you to boot from) Can only use a max of 4gb of RAM.

EDIT: Somehow I didn't see Praetorian Cohort's reply... 47.gif
