When do you start seeing skyscrapers

I have a city at just over 160,000 people, the majority of which is commercial. I am connected to seven other cities in my region and my region size is 220,000. Big buildings I have but just nothing I'd call a skyscraper. My question is when should I start expecting skyscrapers? Is it a certain city population or what?

You need more population from the looks of it, the higher the population the bigger the commercial buildings get. Also does your city have an airport? Airports increase commercial demand. Place plazas, enact ordinances like "Tourism Promotion", and make a lot of mass transit like busses and especially subways to your commercial areas. And of course make sure your zoning High Density. To get the biggest buildings you need zones that are 4x4 tiles.

You should start seeing residential skyscrapers as soon as you have a population around 30000 or higher. Make sure to place parks and provide medical/educational/fire/police coverage.

**** Yes its irritating to have people asking the same questions all the time, but thats what a forum is for. Since this is such a common topic, perhaps a sticky should be created.

You just need more sims to create more demand. Even if all your region's 220k sims were dumped into a single city, that still wouldn't be sufficient to get the better skyscrapers. And yes, do use the search feature, this question has been asked a gazillion times.
