HTML & BBCode Tutorial: The Ultimate Guide
Trigger_tre replied to Trigger_tre's topic in Simtropolis Related
Yes unfortunently this occurs because the hard code gets altered when you post a message , so if you edit it or sticky it then the could will get unreadable or undesired effects. Luckily I have a template. I will also be adding the BBCodes and some more advanced HTML codes in the next few days. Also if the need arises I have plans to add other browsers such as Opera, Netscape, & Avant. These will be on an as needed basis though. So if you see or hear of people needing it for their browser let me know. Also any requests and/or advice and/or comments are welcome. -trigger ----------------------- -
HTML, BBCode and RTF in the forums and the STEX
Trigger_tre replied to cogeo's topic in Simtropolis Related
Hello beebs: I went ahead and posted the tutorial. I still have to add BBCode and then add tutorials on other browsers in the future. But since their seems to be a steady flow of people asking about how to use HTML I thought it necessary to go ahead and post it. Hopefully it gets a sticky. Just press the button titled "HTML & BBCode Tutorial" -trigger ----------------------- -

fmorel90: vester_DK: MayorTim: There is now a detailed tutorial on how to use HTML & BBCode properly and follow the instructions. -trigger ----------------------- -
Hello Shadow_Assasin. I created an HTML & BBCode tutorial, just and follow the instructions. So far it breaks it down depending on which browser you use. Once you do you dont need any outside application like Xinha! (NOTE: XINHA! has been experiencing some problems with the lastest Firefox). https://www.simtropolis.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=32&threadid=75188&enterthread=y

Hello fello Web-Masters. Looking for web-site advice.
Trigger_tre replied to Trigger_tre's topic in General Off-Topic
defcon pilot: Well the actually building of web pages is not really a problem. I already know a fairly good bit on how to properly code things. I was just curious on how I would setup up my pc as a server (if its possible) also what kinda money this would amount to and monthly costs associated with having someone host the website. -trigger ----------------------- -
I thought I would start this to showcase some of my upcoming ventures in BATting. These first LOTs are already uploaded to the STEX, but since they were my first attempt at BATting/Modding I thought I would start with them. Plus I will be adding a Filtering Tunnel ver.02 to this which will add an avenue tunnel. ROAD 2x1 & 3x1 ONEWAY 2x1 & 3x1 Nightshots -trigger Your constructive cristicism is always welcome! Advice, questions, and/or comments help me to make you better lots! -------------------------

Its possible this has been started before but I didnt see it so here it is. What kind of securities do you use regularly on your pc? Currently I use ALL free stuff. Why buy when you can get it for free? Spybot Search & Destroy Ad-Aware SE Personal SpywareBlaster AntiVir PE Classic ver.7 Firefox 1.5 as main Browser HiJackThis 1.99.1 Windows SP2 Windows Firewall + built-in router Firewall + ISP's Firewall I will probably use Windows Defender too, when it comes out of BETA. So long as it plays well with my other safeguards. I used to use ZoneAlarms but its such a picky resource HOG, that I dropped it and settled for just the windows built in firewall Had this pc about 11 months and no problems yet. Actually, HTML and BB aren't that difficult to explainquote> I think you forget the age groups who frequent this site. For most of use its fairly easy but, it can be VERY cumbersome explaining to those who are not very computer literate. -trigger ----------------------- -
HTML, BBCode and RTF in the forums and the STEX
Trigger_tre replied to cogeo's topic in Simtropolis Related
Hello yellowlab. beebs and myself are going to get started on a tutorial which will cover to use BBCode, HTML, and how to get by without it. OF course their will be different ways for each browser. I believe we will just start with IE and FF at first. If the need arises then Opera or Safari could be added. If whoever is writing this thing could post a brief tutorial there I will add it to the main post; that would be great. quote> I believe we are going to post this in a private thread until its finalized. As for it being brief......doubt that would be possible since HTML & BBCode can be rather complicated for some users so beebs and I would have to break it down in laymen's terms, making it non-brief. Plus we would have to do it for 2 browsers possibly 4. -trigger ----------------------- -
Hopefully I did the POLL correctly. Was just bored so I thought I would throw a POLL out there so you guys could give your best edumacated' guesses on how many uploads will consume the STEX when it finally opens. Take into consideration that perhaps it will be cycled maybe a half-dozen times a day and limited to a few uploads per cycle. -trigger -------------------------

I wonder, though, if the option does appear in your profile if you use Opera or some other browser or if it's only available for IE... would be something interesting to check.quote> My understanding is that you can set Opera to act as either IE or FF. I will have to look it up but I think its just a matter of select Opera to use IE standards or FF standards. Also, as I have tested already, this site doesn't support some of the BB codes that other sites do. Getting a BB-driven linking image isn't that difficult, but when the site doesn't support it, it just won't work. For the time being, I suggest that we just stick to what the BB code can handle, and we'll worry about what it can't do later when the site is farther along through the upgrade than it is now.quote> The reason certain BBCode doesnt work is because Dirk or the Admins decided not to add the script/code for it. It comes down to what THEY want used on the site. Some where along the road Dirk had to allow the HTML code that is usuable or well it wouldnt work. So until he changes it I dont really see why we cant use it. A second thought would be that perhaps Dirk meant for it to act that way. For the newbies not to be able to easily type HUGE words or irradically mess up the flow of threads with multi-colored paragraphs. Perhaps he decided to let the more mature and text savvy ST frequent users the option to use it at their disposal. Yes the number one reason why forums use BBCode over HTML is security issues. Although a new form of HTML is in beta right now. Just my thoughts on the issue. Anyone up for joining me in a Tutorial on this? -trigger ----------------------- -
IS it possible to hyperlink images using BBCode?
Trigger_tre replied to onlyplace4's topic in Simtropolis Related
To be honest.... Even if you write in BBCode the website alters it to HTML when you post something. So as far as I can see Dirk or the Admins never meant for HTML not to be used. An easy way to see this is to put a picture in your sig using the IMG tag with brackets (or BBCode). Then press update profile. When you do you will notice that it changes to html code. The same applies if you look at the page source code. Hope that helps some. -trigger ----------------------- -
IS it possible to hyperlink images using BBCode?
Trigger_tre replied to onlyplace4's topic in Simtropolis Related
Yes thats a problem with the coding. My only solution is to use HTML for the link and BBCode for the IMG Here let me test..... This image should link you to "Trigger BAT Ventures if correct. -
IS it possible to hyperlink images using BBCode?
Trigger_tre replied to onlyplace4's topic in Simtropolis Related
"L" and "URL" are both still BBCode. BBCode is is identified by brackets [] and HTML is identified by arrows <> your URL code is not accepted by this web site so just replace URL with L. Hope that helps -trigger ----------------------- -
HTML, BBCode and RTF in the forums and the STEX
Trigger_tre replied to cogeo's topic in Simtropolis Related
Yes I understand that beebs. I guess what I meant was that in order to use HTML Code in Firefox you first need to alter the WYSIWYG in IE. Since the option isnt available in FF. Simply because if that wasnt explained in the tutorial then you would have XX # of people posting "It doesnt work", "This tutorial sux", "Mine dont work", "Why cant I use HTML in Firefox". Make more sense? -trigger ----------------------- -
HTML, BBCode and RTF in the forums and the STEX
Trigger_tre replied to cogeo's topic in Simtropolis Related
I agree also. I am guessing the best solution is for you or me or someone else with the knowledge of BBCode & HTML and know how to emplement the various codes with each browser to get various results. If YOU or MYSELF come up with a professional but detailed tutorial on it I am sure it will get stickied. I only say YOU or MYSELF or SOMEONE ELSE, because Dirk & the Admins are a little busy. I would work up a tutorial but I am a little encompassed with some BATs I am working on and tinkering with .FSH files for another way to import automata. -trigger ----------------------- -
HTML, BBCode and RTF in the forums and the STEX
Trigger_tre replied to cogeo's topic in Simtropolis Related
Cogeo we resolve the HTML/BBCode issue in my other thread just CLICK HERE. But yes I agree a sticky should be created and with a list of useful HTML/BBCode and with which browsers they work in. And how to get them to work properly. We shall see what becomes of it. I doubt this would be on the top of there list since writing in HTML/BBcode is kind of a preference instead of a bug/issue. So I doubt they would create a sticky before they get other more important tasks completed. (ST Home Page, Modds & Downloads) -trigger ----------------------- -
WOW, talk about a waste of money. Yes the Superdome is in disarray from the hurricane. But like some of you said, the mess that it is in is mostly all aesthetic stuff with several sections in need of some structural repair. That kind of stuff can be cleaned and renovated cost effectively. But for the most part the Superdome is structurally sound. I think they are estimating the renovation in the neighborhood of 140 million Phase1 project and an optional 135 million phase2 project renovation. I just dont see the point of building a new dome which would cost 500-1 billion dollars to demolish old & construct a new one. I dont appreciate paying taxes on hard earned money so taxes can be given out for emergency relief that goes to help pay for a new stadium for NO. Thats just silly. Use that Emergency Relief for something they need, EDUCATION. Save the 100's of millions of dollars by cleaning and renovating the original. Heck, you could even make it look completely different outside and inside without demolishing the basic structure supporting the dome. If you think about the 100's of thousands of people EVERY year that get flooded out of their homes from the Mighty Mississippi, they dont demolish the office buildings and such. No you see them on the news sweeping out the excess water, cleaning up the garbage, trying to make the best of it. I understand the severity of the situation, but to demolish the old seems wasteful and excessive. A good solution would be to spend the allocated money needed for renovations then tack on another 1-3 million for a designated memorial site nearby. With 1-3 million they could build a lavish memorial that would mostlikely show respect for those effected by Katrina. -trigger -----------------------

What kind of Fortress do you have around your PC?
Trigger_tre replied to Trigger_tre's topic in General Off-Topic
Really, that wouldn't be that expensive, but being a high-schooler without an allowance, that is out of my price range right now.quote> Just do like I did and use everthing that is free. If you have the interent then you already have your ISP block most of the junk out their. If you have dsl then most likely you can set the router to act as a secondary firewall. If you have Windows SP2 then it has a built in firewall, for free. All the other stuff is free. Like you I am a poor college boy. Luckily I have a sugar-momma for a wife. -trigger ----------------------- -
Here is an update on the Helicopter. I like were its headed so far. I didnt like the engine I originally had. It looked out of place the new one is much better I think. Here is a close-up of the tail. The tail is finished except for textures. I like the front windows (not textured yet), but I am stuck on how I will design some side windows/doors. Any insight would be helpful. No textures have been added just altered the colors to give you an idea of the basic color scheme. Though more black will be added. -trigger -----------------------

LOL, my wife bought me one of the Fraggle Rock DVD's about a month ago. Came with three episodes and a documentary from Jim Henson. It was kindoff neat, it showed how they were using state-of-the-art technology in their puppetry at the time. The actors playing the giants had the same tele-prompter eye-lense thing that is now standard for most Military helicopter pilots like the Apache. Man was he a genius. Tolomar are you trying to hyperlink an image? Cause thats what it looks like. If you are the easiest way is the enable WYSIWYG. Simply use BBcode for the IMG link then encompass that with typical HTML code for links. When you hit post the site will alter the BBCode to HTML and it should work. It works, just look at my sig. -trigger -----------------------

By Ratieya455: I have Spybot and AdAware but I never use them because I have zero spyware. I just ran AdAware for the first time in 180 days (brand new defnintions) and it didn't find a thing.quote> I am curious what scan you did with Ad-ware. Was it a "Smart System Scan"?
