Thanks for the insight Joe90. and thanks to everyone for keeping the thread alive with some spectacular farm pics. I have been experimenting with Joe90s ideas about transitions in my CJ but dont have any pics to share just yet. it will take some practice but I think I am making progress.

Regional Subway - - Why is the commute long?
soldyne replied to margab's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
I have also had this problem. It seems to me that whenever a sim goes from one city to another they get hit with a commute time surcharge. I have not found a way around it. the best advice I can give you is to not really worry about commute times unless you have a lot of abandonment. I have cities with average commute times of 2hours but yet the sims do not leave their homes (i have no mods installed which affect abandoment but I am using the NAM with better pathfinding.) I hope that helps. -
well they cant be that smart, they still live in that city. lol! seriously though, it was a good idea and very interesting. thanks for posting it.

ok Joe90, what is your secret, and anyone else who wants to chime in? you have such a lovely region view and for the life of me I cannot tell where one city ends and another begins. even when I turn off city boundaries in my region I can still see where the edges of each city lay. I have yet to master the abilty to seemlessly meld my cities together in region view. very beautiful.

Connecting two cities with a river in between them
soldyne replied to pistolvaniasfinest610's topic in SC4 Showcase
well, I know that ferry routes will travel between city squares but I dont think that counts toward an actually connection. you could also use subway to connect and that will help with commercial demand caps but it will not help with neighbor deals. you can connect pipes through a river but this might not be the kind of connection you are looking for. if you want to connect road or rail or anything above ground you are going to need some kind of small land mass in the center of the river to act as an anchor for a bridge. that is all I can think of, hope it helps. -
Date: 1/25/2006 8:15:28 PM Author: rctshack Please Show and Tell. This is getting annoying... quote> Yes I agree. it could be said that your topic is posted in poor taste. if you have a good experiment and wish the share the results then do so. this is not a contest of who is the better city planner this is a forum for the sharing of ideas. to lead us on and tell us how great you are is just plain rude. post pics and layout the steps please.

Roads and Civic buildings could built in a day and skyscrappers could built in a matter of weeks... You could achieve perfect health by simply living next to a hospital... You could run a successful business by having a bunch of commuters drive by your store... (I just wanted to start a little comedy thread to lighten the mood. keep it going. and happy holidays!)

well if anything you are keeping us on the edge of our seats. you have nearly got the budget balanced and yet you are so close to going bankrupt! I can hardly wait to find out what happens.

your design is amazing and the use of ponds and waterfalls is professional in its beauty. the city is developing quite nicely. thanks for making the great CJ.

this is a fantastically funny CJ. the flow chart had me ROFL! I love that kind of humor. the city is looking really good. I like your mosaics especially the sideways one. I have an LCD monitor so I used the instructions to turn the monitor sideways. very nice.

I too like that park. I think simple is the way to go. some of the more in depth CJs have quite a bit of reading to do but sometimes I just wanna see the city! If you are having trouble with this city then start another one and show us that. keep up the posting.

the time and energy you must have put into this is astounding. I am awed, amazed, inspired and humbled. thank you for making this CJ.

well maybe I would only spend 500 on being fat and lazy and then the other 500 on a health club membership with some fees paid in a advance.
