  1. Show us your money!

Pretty darn cool, they look realistic too! Nicely done!
  2. Help please!

Holy crap, don't forget to turn off the tap, there could be any number of reasons! Is there any way at all you could clarify the issue? Anything? It could be either lack of RAM, faulty Graphics card / Drivers / Chipsets, etc. However, this is most likely... are you using any Modds to change the game's look and feel (terrain mods, water mods, etc.). I've heard some of them can glitch up like this, even seen it happen myself. Try to troubleshoot the Modds a bit, even remove them, see if this works. (Of course, ignore all the precedent if you don't have any.) Sorry, you really need to add details to this. Any particular zoom types? State your machine stats also.
  3. New computer for Spore

Personally, I'd buy XP now, but wait before installing it, just in case. This way, if your worst fears are confirmed and it doesn't run on ol' Linux, then you won't have to cry yourself to sleep everynight thinking about how you could have bought XP when you had the chance... You're right for now, you should as of yet avoid Vista. It is very promising, full of potential, but I would choose and wait for a Service Pack or two so they can fix the many glitches and problems the damn thing has. Heck, even XP was notoriously unstable until we jammed two SP's down its throat... (And now the 3rd one's out! Yay!)
  4. I need Help Badly.

Thanks, shmohel! Thing is, I know only too well the pains and frustration of asking for help, then waiting fruitlessly when no-one does... *stares around pointedly* That's the very checklist I myself use to diagnose my cities' problems, as they always seem to have some...
  5. I need Help Badly.

Unos - Welcome to ST! Enjoy your stay. Dos - For your problemo, there's really not much one can help with in a single post. You see, there are so many things that could be causing these problems around your city... (Also, if I get it wrong, please clarify your problem, as it's a bit vague for now, could be anything really...) Follow this checklist, it should help with the more common problems. 1 - Are your Residential zones provided with all the amenities? Education, Health, Police and Fire are the four basic ones you absolutely need for your city to get anywhere, anytime. Not just placing them is enough, you need to place them for maximun coverage with their radiuses, and then adjust funding for the perfect capacities. (Not for Fire, though, reducing its funding will cause Strikes, even with 5% decrease. Better to leave them alone.) 2 - Do they have enough jobs? If you get zots (circular red signs) above your resident houses with brown briefcases in them, then you don't have enough jobs provided to your citizens. Check your city, and any connected cities, for jobs and their capacities of employment - check how much Industrial, AND Commercial you have. Many make the grave mistake of only adding Industrial, or only Commercial, when you really need both for a healthy city to prosper. Also, make sure your jobs (Ind & Com) are also happy and healthy. EDIT – I forgot to add, check which Residential Wealth types (poor R$ / medium-class R$$ / rich bastards R$$$) have said zots. I understand you mostly have problems with your R$$. When a particular occupant type, or wealth, seems stricken with these zots more than any others, than your jobs are simply not right for their wealths. Rich R$$$ Sims won't be happy working as janitors, and poor R$ won't cope with becoming CEO's, you know? To increase the demand for better paying jobs, all you can do is BANK ON EDUCATION. More schools, more funding, more coverage, more results! Smarter Sims want better jobs, which attracts said jobs, which allows more smart Sims... etc. A beautiful cycle has begun. 3 - Check your commutes. Even if you have more than enough jobs for them, if the road to get there is too long, or the traffic is too high, they won't get to work on time and be fired, which starts a long chain reaction leading to you losing citizens as they leave to find work elsewhere. If the roads are too long, make some Residential and Industrial closer (or Commercial). If the roads are traffic-clogged, make more roads or use Mass Transit (always helpful, plus they bring money with fares! Yay!). 4 - If they have enough jobs and the road to get them there is fine, then maybe they just don't like their neighborhood. Check the Desirability maps, see if everyone's happy. Adding services (the Four Basics noted above), Rewards, and Parks will quickly gain their respect for you and your city. This is all I can think of for now. In the end, if you just want the detailed versions of what I said above, or all the other possible causes, then you'd do well to head to the Omnibus (the link is at the top of the site), and check the dozens and dozens of articles, tutorials and how-to's it holds. Many newbies become Pros simply after perusing them a bit, I'm not kidding. I know I did. Sorry for the late, and long, reply... Hope it all helps. Looking forwards to hearing from you!
  6. Looking forwards to it! Nice name, too - Seabreeze... Sounds comfy and calm.
  7. Tax evaders!

This is one of SC4's perks and quirks... one that we can't actually explain. It seems not all residents pay their taxes... Can't really explain this, maybe ask some experts, or wait 'till they arrive...
  8. The Grinchy City Planner - A Cautionary Tale

Pretty darn neat, I have to admit... your poem nearly made me laugh my heart out! shmohel: Don't be surprised, 15 minutes between the alarm clock and ST is sort of the standard time frame for anyone who's been on here long enough. I know I always jump on here whenever I'm dressed... and awake enough to stop mistaking socks for hats... *guilty*
  9. All custom content, unless clearly designed to replace original buildings and files, will only grow WITH all original buildings. You will only have buildings replaced via Modds, some of which are designed to do just that. With buildings and stuff, they're only added to the city. Sort of like expanding the building database your cities can grow.
  10. STEX Donate......

First of all, SimCity4_Totall!, welcome to ST! For the issue... unfortunately, I can't really understand what you mean, but I hope I get the gist of it. Donating via Paypall is simple, no matter where you are (in your case, Germany). First, just use an online converter - don't know any sites myself, but there are dozens and dozens of them - to verify how much Euro you need for the amount required in Dollars (in this case, $45). Check to see how much $45 equals in Euro, then simply send that amount in Euro via paypall to the required address, destination, etc. As they say, any currency is accepted, no preference as to Euro, Dollar (US or CAD), Yen, Peso, etc. (As far as I know.) Glad to see, on a subnote, that your first action upon entering this site is to donate! Supremely well done, I might say. Enjoy your stay! If you require more assistance, always feel free to holler back, call back, whatever.
  11. fun screen shots

"That is far"... Pfft. I go that distance roughly twice each day, to and from school... no bus service where I am. Lazy striker idiots. And I'm not even fit! Love this thread though, spend probably too much time lurking around...
  12. Your least favorite thing to do!

HOLY CRAAAAAAAAAAAAAP!!!!!!!!!!!! I only just found out it was your LEAST favorite thing! Damn it, I hate when I misread titles and stuff. CONSIDER MY COMMENT RETRACTED. (I'm not gonna delete it due to our old nemesis, the Page Flip Bug.) SC4 is my MOST, not least, FAVORITE thing to do. As I said, if it would only work. My LEAST... Probably, at school, doing boring, tedious, pointless, long, repetitive, annoying tests and work that have no other goal than to test how long you can stay awake without crying in despair 'cause you're just so damn bored... I'm sorry for the miscommunication. Happens alot, seemingly.
  13. Chinese Train Wreck

That's pretty tense, 70 dead... larger than any train crash I'd ever heard about previously. I hope they find out why the train went so damn fast in the first place... Maybe the conductor(s) fell asleep? It has certainly happened often before... Is this train equipped with the notorious "Dead Man's Pedal"?
  14. Your least favorite thing to do!

... Doing homework? Why do I sense you're bored...? Mine is, well, playing SC4... WHICH I WOULD DO IF I COULD PLAY IT! *sobs uncontrollably* Damn glitchy PC, can't even load SC4 anymore... *pouts* EDIT – READ NEXT REPLY BY ME
  15. XP Service Pack Three Now Released

Wow, FINALLY! I was beginning to think all their effort was in making Vista just a little less crappy and glitchy... Glad to see they haven't yet foresaken the XP community. I'm getting this right as I type this... Heck, all those updates...
  16. Newcomer Here

Yup, welcome. Hope you have a nice stay!
  17. 55 Die In Mattres Fire

55 people dead... whoa... The boss and manager definately do need some time in jail... but I for one wouldn't charge him / them with "murder"... that implies it was premeditated, and as far as we know, he's not the one who triggered the short circuit with the intention to kill 55 of his workers... I do, however, agree with charging him with Criminal Negligence resulting in Deaths, and stuff like that. Simply, he didn't want to have them die, but he didn't seem to care for them, so that's what I'm going for instead. As for locking them up in the building... Correct me if I'm wrong, but I heard, in a movie, that Fire Codes are little or no existing in those countries in that area? So, it it's true, then closing and locking the doors won't have been against the rules... though still morally unnacceptable... At least some did get out, it still could have been worse. (But it is rather bad already.)
  18. ... This is one of the wierdest things I've heard in a long time, to say the least... I can't really explain my thoughts about this, simply 'cause I don't know what to think... Brutal inhumanity? Incestuous father? Careless mother? Or just stupid prank? God knows for now... hope the DNA samples come back soon. Please keep us updated, will you?
  19. I've got a quick question... I've read (and have seen pics of) running SimCity 4 in a window, without being full-screen. How do you do this? A modd, or do you modify the core settings? Any help would be appreciated. This is part of my brave, probably foolishly vain, attempt at finally resolving the unviersal CTD problems plaguing the community... this way, I can play while simulteneously monitoring the PC's logs and resources usage and stuff, see when it bugs up. Etc. Thanks!
  20. SimCity 4 "Windowed"

Thanks for the reply! Unfortunately, it didn't help much. What do you mean by "target window"? I can't find anything resembling that in the Properties window... Please pardon my ignorance. BTW, I did in fact do a search, but I got about ten thousand results, so I'm sure you'll understand why I only skimmed the first few threads (no answers there). Please feedback soon. Thanks again.
  21. Well, I kinda hate both restaurant branches, so I couldn't care that much... I always figured Wendy's was bigger than Arby's though... I stand corrected. I really hate those Wendy's commercials about those idiots in those stupid wigs... God sometimes, when I'm in less-than-good moods, I wish I could just march up to them and slap that stupid thing off their heads. Ridiculous. (Then again I always get irritated over the smallest things...) Then again, they all pale in comparaison to McDonald's, so by the time they get large and powerful enough to rival the Golden Arches we'll know Hell has frozen over...
  22. Heh, I joined when I was 14... now I'm 16... slow world lol. Problem is, I'm a rather impulsive poster - ex: something pisses me off, I answer with anger and, well, being pissed-off. Some hours later I reread it and go, "Oh GOD I hope no-one read that..." I'd then usually delete them, but upon learning of the Page Flip Bug I stopped doing that. And by the way, you asked what straight 15-year-old wouldn't speak ill of homosexuality? Well, me for one. And many at my school. (Speaking ill of it seems to be like a taboo, which can only be good I guess.) My uncle's gay, and he's one of my favorite family members, always so silly and goofy, and not at all behaving like the stereotypical gay man (effeminate and junk). ... Although he wasn't always like that... *shudders* Anyway, digressing again. Point is: I'm ALWAYS doing that. And then, of course, seeing as I momentarily lost control of my emotions I put into my writing, some jerktards find nothing better to do than to flame my ass, the stupid immature idiots. I'm actually saddened to realize some of them are often Mods... one in particular... Enough of that for now.
  23. Your first SC4 city

Oh dear God... If I remember, my first ever incorporated city (back in 2003) was nothing more than a few streets and some dilapidated R$ homes... lasted for about half an hour. Glad to think I came a long way since.
  24. My GPA

... Anyone bother to explain what this means? "GPA", "cum laude", the numbers... wha...? Or is it to do with the American education system, of which I have just about no knowledge at all?
  25. Blood Tranfusions vs. Freedom of Religion

Religious or beliefs should never, EVER, come before life. If some religious wacko wants to die because of his / her dumb beliefs system, so be it. Remove yourself from our gene pool, I say. If someone wants to die for an actual good reason (ex. they're terminal and in horrible pain, such as Assisted Suicide), then I'm all for it. Unlike GMT, I AM anti-religious (not afraid to show it), as it's us humans that created the damn rubbish, not God. Jesus didn't say "I have now created another religion, it's the real one, join or die in Hell!" (at least, I think...). I DO however believe in a higher power that we feeble humans can never begin to imagine or comprehend, yet I'm pretty sure that higher power would want someone to save his or her life above following their dumb beliefs. I agree 100% percent with these hospitals. Heck, were I Dr. House, chances are I would have yelled at them too, ESPECIALLY that mother that tried to have her kids die because of her own dumb beliefs. As with patriots, I seriously wonder where their ethics and "Right & Wrong" systems lay. It's all right to pester strangers endlessly, trying to get them to desert their own religion and join yours, yet it's illegal to save lives...? What kook came up with this nonesense?
