I recently beat the game and it was worth the buy. I was first turned off by the controls as I had Battlefront for PC and my brother accidently bought me the one for PS2. With life coming and my dislike for the controller, I put it down but just last week I picked it up and beat it. Its a really fun game. Kinda wish they had a campaign mode for both sides but whatever. Still gets my approval.

Finding drunks in a bar -- what are the chances?
confused04 replied to Easy Bakes's topic in Current Events
Its nice to see that they spent so much time on this when I'm pretty sure they could have used police resources for more important stings. After all, most bartenders that notice a person is drunk will not let them behind the wheel of a car to begin with. Bars are perhaps in my opinion... the BEST place for people to get drunk cause if you are alone at home, or some other place where random people are unlikely to stop you from drive, then THAT is a problem. I used to work at a bar/restaurant and they take very seriously the problem with drunk driving. I'm pretty sure there are thieves, drug traffickers, and other crimes that deserve far more attention than that. -
Hamline University, St. Paul, MN Located in the Midway community (which is cleverly named due to its location midway between the two downtowns of the Twin Cities which are roughly 5 miles in either direction). Hamline is the oldest University in the state of Minnesota (even though the U of M was the first chartered, Hamline was the first to actually accept students).Total Student Population (including Grad, Law, and Undergrad)= 4,000Old Main: On the U.S. National Registry of Historic Buildings, this is the main administrative building and it used to encompass the entire campus (over a century ago). Klas Center: One of our Athletic centers (although clearly not in use at the moment ) Interesting side note. The guy who donated some 6 million dollars to this establishment was my uncles roommates father. I wish he gave me money to go to school but I guess my uncle doesn't have that type of clout. The statue of the dude in front is Bishop Leonidas Hamline who donated the money to found the school. Drew Residence Hall: This is one of the 6 dorms on campus and houses non-Freshman, theme housing and GBLT community members.

The Australian category system is NOT equivelant to the Atlantic Saffir-Simpson Scale. The Australian system measures the strength of a typhoon/cyclone/hurricane by wind GUSTS and NOT sustained winds as they do in the United States. Larry, in the United States, would have been a Category 3 and don't get me wrong, I wouldn't have wanted to be in Larry either as that storm was a beast (and according to the Katrina Response Report, would have STILL flooded New Orleans anyway so we don't need to fight over which storm is worse since they really weren't that far apart except for storm surge). Anyway, I hope that clears some confusion.

Whats most disturbing was that La Nina was not as strong as this year and nor was last year even classified as a "La Nina" year. La Nina has statiscally been linked with stronger hurricane seasons as the cool water promotes less shear that could destroy hurricanes. With above normal temperatures, the La Nina factor, and the cycle of hurricane activity, chances are this season will be measurable or surpass the last season. I doubt last seasons records will be broken (as two years with broken records would be highly unlikely). Anyway... I hope that the jet stream this year will be further south and block the hurricanes from the East Coast, we had Isabel and that was bad enough, never the less the other remnants and hurricanes that really didn't help. From Gastone, to Ophelia, and the remants of Ivan, Charlie, Jeanne and Floyd, Delmarva just doesn't need any more (its a poor region so I don't want anything to hit there).

Just a few days ago, one of Baseball's Giants, and a behemoth of an icon passed away after suffering a massive stroke. He was just 45 years of age. Particularly in Minnesota, where he played for the Minnesota Twins and led them to two World Series Victories both in 1987 and 1991, he will be missed. His attitude and passion for the game was unique and he helped bring an often misunderstood and overlooked state to the forefront of MLB until his sudden retirement in 1996. I myself am not a sports person, but of all the names I recognized, I empathized most with Kirby Puckett, and so did many of my friends. His passing spread around our campus immediately, and I know that many tears were shed from some of my friends who are native Minnesotans. Its sad to see another icon pass away. Sunday, March 12th, at the Metrodome in Minneapolis Minnesota at 7 PM Central Standard time, a free public memorial will be held in honor of Kirby Puckett and his legacy. I will be there to honor him along with many thousands of people (the Metrodome has a capacity of 50,000 for this event). So if your available and willing, there is no admission fee and soda and water are being given out. Anyone else have any thoughts on the passing of Kirby Puckett?

The Supereruption of Yellowstone is an intriguing issue. I agree, chances of anything happening in Yellowstone during our lifetime, is slim enough where I can lose sleep over college expenses instead. But, there is irefutable evidence that pressure is building as seen by the shifting of some lakes (where forests that used to be at the edge are now submerged) and the increased thermal activity at the geysers. Not to say these are imminent cursors of armageddon, but they are signs of something. Never the less... do not be overly confident in our scientific understanding of all this. Just because scientists say that an event isn't likely to occur in the next 10,000 years, that another extrenuating circumstance or unknown variable may tip in favor of an earlier eruption. Volcanology isn't that old nor is it as understood as other sciences. Being a biology major and in throughout my experiences in chem classes... there is one safe bet... you are more likely to be wrong than right. Mount Pinatubo was an excellent case study when it comes to global climate change and volcanic eruptions. I had read somewhere that the global average temperature change was 1 degree celsius. But that paled in comparison to Tambora which was some 4-7 degrees Celsius. Yellowstone wouldn't be too disimilar from Tambora (according to scientists ). Even if this event does seem unlikely during our lifetime, or even within the next few hundred years... we do need to avoid the "manana effect" (I don't have the accent mark, but I meant the "tomorrow" effect). When events seem unlikely to occur soon, humans tend to but them on the back burner THINKING that they have plenty of time to prepare... but oh man can we point out hundreds of examples where waiting proved fatal. We have Katrina, September 11th, Asian Tsunami (in regards to placing a tsunami warning system), arguable World War II, and MANY other events. Dismissing such a blatent event is "improbable" is just asking for disaster. I'd prefer if people would rather have the government prepare for a mega-disaster tomorrow and be wrong than find out they should have prepared when Yellowstone does indeed erupt.

Minneapolis/St. Paul Minnesota recorded 9.7 inches of snow (24.6 cm) and we have snow drifts about 2 feet. This isn't terrible, but not usual for this time of year. Area schools were closed as well as colleges (including mine) and workplaces. Meanwhile, my hometown back in Maryland was 80 degrees F (27 C). Crazy winter I must say.

Kirby Puckett Public Memorial, March 12th,2006 Downtown Minneapolis Crowd I would estimate is between 7500 and 12500 although most are not pictured. Kirby Puckett's Banner The "Program" (which really was a collection of quotes and info about Kirby) The Jumbo screen with Kirby Puckett Cal Ripken speaking at the Memorial Harmon Killebrew speaking. There were others such as Dave Winfield, the GM, Dan Gladden, Al Newman, Tom Kelly. They also had a moving selection of song performed by local artists and a choir. At the end they darkened the Metrodome and laid Pucketts jersey in centerfield with a spotlight which was particularly moving . Despite the threat of a foot of snow and actually thundersnow, many people turned out to honor Kirby Puckett and his memory.

What a wounderful world it would be if......
confused04 replied to pickled_pig's topic in General Off-Topic
The world would be a better place if: People held GENIUNE concern for the well-being of ALL people. People didn't care about choices such as but not limited to food, music, lifestyle, clothing, or whatever (I am a strong believer in this one). The real problems that exist were really addressed. there was eternal peace. Life were simple. -
You're the United Nations! Most people think you're ineffective, but you are trying to completely save the world from itself, so there's always going to be a long way to go. You're always the one trying to get friends to talk to each other, enemies to talk to each other, anyone who can to just talk instead of beating each other about the head and torso. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't, and you get very schizophrenic as a result. But your heart is in the right place, and sometimes also in New York. Its gotta be Minnesota. You got the Twin Cities which has everything that any large city on the coast has (I mean it has an Atlantic Book Warehouse in the MoA, theres only 13 in the nation!) Perhaps I'm a wee bit biased.

What did you do during the State Of The Union address?
confused04 replied to ancientsociety's topic in General Off-Topic
I watched it, wasn't impressed... have never been impressed with the State of the Union in living memory. They are so busy patting themselves on the back (or bashing the other party) when in fact, the speech has VERY little content to it. Never have I heard a State of the Union address say Things could be better. I want one president to take the initiate to say things could be better and that they weren't satisfied with the status quo. But whatever, I'm not discriminatory, I hate both parties That is why I hope I can someday help found a new party which would hopefully take Maryland's 1st Congressional District, throw a wrench in the system (but thats mere fantasy). Anyway I'm kinda disillusioned by American politics so eh... I felt my time could have been wasted doing anything else (perhaps sleeping). -
ACT is scored out of 36. http://www.act.org/news/releases/2001/08-15-01.html I did better on the ACT than the SAT so I was able to get a really good scholarship so I was pleased.

I myself am an atheist but I do not have a problem with those who believe in a diety or force, just as long as you respect my belief (or lack there of depending on how you wish to view atheism). However, I'm seeing some different views of atheism that I myself do not agree with. Atheism doesn't claim that the individual is the most important, and certainly not a physical God for which he does everything to serve himself. I'm among the least selfish people I know. I have volunteered, I have sacrificed my time and comforted those who need help and even for being a broke college student, I donate money frequently. I do not live to serve myself exclusively, and I do not think that all regilious people are completely selfless either. Atheists sometimes believe in the good of society and humanity as a whole. Atheism doesn't necessarily put humanity at the highest tier of the universe either, in fact, Atheism can put humanity in the most humble position. Many atheists are environmentalists, scientists, artists and so forth and they do not believe humans are the superior force. These atheists believe that although humans arose through natural and explainable causes, that they could have easily been wiped out or that forces that helped create us can also help destroy us. Unfortunately, the debate between intelligent design and evolution has been terribly skewed. The parents who do not want intelligent design in biology books and reaffirm evolution are not necessarily atheists. The theory of evolution cannot be tossed as being a mere theory, theory in the scientific realm doesn't mean the same thing in the practical realm. A theory in the practical realm is more aptly called a hypothesis... an possible explaination for something we don't know. A theory in the scientific realm has been document, follows a logical experimental route, that has never been disproven. So the theory of evolution isn't just a guess, its a careful computation with valid significant results that have yet to be disproven and experimental data follow a logical path to reach the same conclusion. So throwing a sticker saying Evolution is just a theory is wrong, and secondly, and perhaps far more important... Intelligent Design and Evolution DO NOT discuss the same thing! Intelligent Design asserts that human life, and probably all life as we know it, is too complicated to have arisen by random events in the past over a course of 5 billion years or so. Intelligent Design targets the actually creation of life, from the inorganic to the organic. Intelligent Design does follow up on the diversification of life, but the primary focuse remains on the beginning. Evolution discusses on the diversification of life exclusively, and nothing more. It doesn't discuss how life came from the inorganic to the organic, and it was purposely left that way as no evidence can follow a logical path as of yet and any evidence so far has some problems. Evolution leaves room for a diety. One can argue that Evolution is inherently deist.... but then again, any other religion can say that evolution was guided by God. Evolution does not discount the existence or evolution of God and therefore that is why the courts have decided that it should be in the books, as it doesn't establish a religious belief at all. The theory of evolution just marks a clearly noticeable and indisbutable trend. One group however cannot ever co-exist with the theory of evolution, and that would be the literal interpreters of all the respective religions. If you metaphorically view the bible, then evolution can still exist peacefully with religion as one could say the process of evolution represents a few days in the creation of Earth as listed in the first book of the Old Testament (forgive me if I'm wrong about that). But if you literally interpret the holy books, then Evolution, which states that change has come over billions of years would conflict with your belief that humanity and all of the universe is less than 20,000 years old (or whatever the number is).

Nahguav Here is my first CJ. Currently, I just have the region made up which is based loosely (and I mean loosely) on the Eastern seaboard of the United States (with a piedmont region, a Chesapeake Bay-like area and exaggerated mountains). I hope to make a realistic mix of urban, suburban and rural areas in this region. I don't have many downloads, but I plan to download more (starting with farms). I welcome comments and criticisms (just make them worth my time). Well, here's my first pic. Next update should be this coming weekend (most likely Sunday). http://img484.imageshack.us/img484/8966/myregion0vw.jpg align=baseline>

Hey Black and White fans, the game hits shelves THIS Wednesday (October 5th, it ships the 4th so.... ya...). And the reviews are trickling in and generally they are positive. Btw, if you are getting the game for SURE, reserve it in the next two days to get the bonus cd. Anyway... enjoy the game.

Date: 7/31/2005 10:01:38 AM Author: zelgadis I agree that the relationship between Anakin and Padme didn't really resonate. But IMHO, I think that had to do more with the fact that Natalie Portman can't act. Shoot, I can do better than her, and that's saying a lot because I'm not a particularly good actor. But there's another side to this. Anakin thinks he wants to be a Sith in order to save Padme. But I think that he actually does it because he has a lust for power and control. 'Peace through dictatorship' seems to be the theme for III. Then there's this dialogue from II: Padme: 'You're not all-powerful, Anakin. Anakin: 'Well I should be! I will be!' So while I do believe that Anakin's desire to save Padme is important, I think his lust for power is the true motivating force because it turns back to having the power to save Padme. That's why Anakin is a natural Sith. Later, in VI, when he's older and wiser, his lust for power is finally overcome by the desire to save his son. *End excruciating plot analysis* ISF quote> His desire to save Padme and his greed for power are one in the same. He wants to become all powerful to change the things that are normally deemed unchangable. Notice the line that you quoted was spoken after the death of his mother, something he wished he was powerful enough to prevent. He originally wants power to save his wife, Padme. Lust for power and his wanting to save Padme, are not independent of each other.

My favorite was Return of the Jedi, the epic original trilogy came to a thrilling climax and did not dissappoint. For 1983, the special effects look great! Personally, I feel the ships look far more realistic in ROTJ than Episode III. The culmination of decades of conflicts in this one mega battle to the death (well, if you read the books, it really isn't the end... naturally, otherwise there wouldn't be books...) The acting in Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi has the best acting of all the movies since George Lucas didn't direct them (no offense to this genius, he just can't direct dialogue). Empire Strikes Back is a close second and Episode III is third. A New Hope just doesn't feel as Star Wars-y as the others due to the massive technical draw backs that it had. It's aura is different from the others and the budget shows, even after it was redone. Though A New Hope probably does the best in character development.

You planning on interning in Norman, OK sometime? My father went there for a while, and thats when they had the massive F5 tornado (I think its F5) slam through the suburbs of Oklahoma City. One of the best spots to intern or be for that matter. If not, you can always come to the East coast. I can't really imagine Washington states weather being super exciting. Then again, I could be wrong.
