Dhop, Two updates...yup. I wanted to try to tie up Smithfield and get on to Lighthouse Cove (which you should see a basic update for this afternoon! ) Thanks for the comments. You must really thank Jeronij for the inspiration for the parks, complexes, etc. using his tarmac trails. I just try to mimic things I see in real life. Plus, I like the idea of calming, open, green-space and most of the his trails set fits the bill. I like to think that the people in my CJ are able to unwind after a long days work by taking a stroll in one of my many parks. You don't do a bad job of it either! You put together some good areas with the pine trails too. Who knows, maybe we'll both get a Trixie this year!! As for the avatar, yes I am in that sort of field. I am a 911 dispatcher, so that phrase in that part of the update is actually something I would say in real life over the radio. I saw that when I was playing the game and it was an instant . I thought, Oh My God! How cool would that be. At least you thought it was. The blue stuff on the region shot, those are clouds. When you leave the game go for a few seconds that far out, you start to get massive cloud cover invade the region. That was the most neutral color that I could come up with to fill in the clouds and still blend with the region itself. Gotta love Paint Shop Pro! I'll give it some time and see if we get any other parting comments for Smithfield and then I'll give the basic story line and a few pics for Lighthouse Cove this afternoon. Oh yeah, by the way. With the CJ's I am subscribed to and get email on, I watched you post your comments almost in order today from my Inbox. It was kind of amusing waiting to see when you would get around to mine. Take care my friend...

Date: 5/8/2005 9:37:29 AM Author: Jetty Jockey I'm gonna miss Smithfield, but am looking forward to seeing Lighthouse Cove. Keep up the great work ! quote> I'm gonna kinda miss Smithfield too, but like I said before we WILL come back to it. I just want to get some basic development done and have a few more interconnected towns and cities. Eventually, I would like to have a few more small towns like Smithfield, plus another slightly large city like Tarrytowne. I'm not sure if I want the other city to a huge metropolis, but I would like a large city. I feel that with multiple cities/towns all interconnected you start to get some sort of dependence and stability between them. Just like in real life (even if real life does sometimes SUCK!

D, Thanks for giving me the ultimate compliment of using my words. Verbatim even! I wasn't the first to come up with this idea though. I don't remember who it was, and I can't find the original thread in the forums any longer. Sooo...to those of you out there, if you created this idea first post a link to the thread and I'll gladly credit you for the idea. I guess for now, we can call it my idea if you like.

Date: 5/8/2005 12:57:43 AM Author: gurrgkud After announcing the new College Park in Capitol City, Cecil Adams signed himself for the task of designing it. Just left of the Government Sector... ...College Park has managed to integrate a College with a Park. Although there are still some minor issues to fix to make sure College Park meets the Capitol City standards, most of the layout is complete and students can currently enroll for the upcoming 2098 Fall term. The college includes the following ammenities: Pathways that connect every single building through an enchanting forest, safely away from the streets. A sports complex. State of the Art buildings and classrooms. State of the Art dorms, providing an atmosphere of excellence for every student. Recreational activities such as tennis, baseball, basketball, etc... And College Park's symbol of excellence, the Clock Tower. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Thank you all for the comments, and for coming back and following the CJ! Im keeping the replies brief since im actually half asleep right now after a long day with my date aldara6166: Thanks for the University Pack, it really came in handy (as you can see from the screenshots ) quote> No problem. I too loved the set once I downloaded it and pit it to use. I just preferred to use Jeronij's tarmac trails exclusively for my campus. This is just a personal preferrence though. But, you campus still looks great. I thought there weren't a lot of trees yet due to the radiation?? All-in-all, good update and great CJ. Can't wait for your comments on mine, since you like my campus layout so much.

Bonus Pic Here is a bonus picture for everyone. Considering it a parting shot of Smithfield. Just a random shot showing the beauty of the area. Enjoy! https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Smithfield--60--Parting_Shot.jpg align=baseline>

Z and jacqulina, Thanks for the comments. I try to keep it creative to keep people interested. Hopefully, real life permitting, I will be able to start some updates on Lighthouse Cove next week. The only thing this week is I have my 2 finals for this semester to take. RLS!! ***************************** And now, for the final update for Smithfield for this stage of development. We will revisit Smithfield in the future. These pictures are the overall pics of the town of Smithfield. The pictures go in clockwise order, starting in the upper left corner of town. As you can see, I filled in the unused areas with trees since this is supposed to be a semi-rural area. So, without further ado... Well folks, except for the final region shots, this is the final update for Smithfield. Well, at least for now. I plan on revisiting Smithfield some time from now when the region starts to grow some of it's cities outside the initial city grid. Darmok, glad to see you like the embassy. Like I said before, I try to reward my loyal visitors (as do you.) The way I figure it, lots of people do this by naming buildings after a person. But, I've never in all of the CJ's I've read seen someone dedicate an embassy to someone else's region. There probably were people that did that before, I just haven't seen their CJ's. Also, starting with these pictures you should be able to see how I have filled in the entire area with trees to give it the rural feel. ******************* With the initial students in Smithfield progressing towards their teen years, Alfred instructed the Board of Education to furnish plans for and construct a high school. The campus is rather spacious and includes a small stadium. As with many other Board of Education's, the low bid was used for the construction of the campus and buildings. This is quite evident in the plain, concreat retaining walls built into the hillside. Picture S16-1 https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Smithfield--49--High_School.jpg align=baseline> Regionally, Smithfield holds much significance. The folks at KSIM radio did not pass on the fact that the hills in Smithfield offered an optimum site for a FM radio station. The station is located at the top of the highest hill in the area, just above the terraced residential area. Picture S16-2 https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Smithfield--50--Radio_Station.jpg align=baseline> One fine Sunday afternoon, just after chuch let out the calm afternoon air was pierced with a very shrill scream. Beep. Beep. On State Route 17 at Saint Johns Park, for a water rescue, Engine Companies 26 and 10, Boat 20, Rescue Squad 10, Medic 26, Helicopter 3 respond. Unit respond on Channel Alpha, Operations will be on Channel Delta. Little Sally Emerson had been playing in the park with her big brother Thomas when she stopped to look at the pretty fishes in the stream. She wanted to see their pretty colors better, so she leaned over the railing just a little. She still couldn't see the colors very well, so she leaned over a little more and *SPLASH*. Unfortunately little Sally couldn't swim. Her brother had just been to Children's Village in Tarrytowne on a school field trip. Childrens Village is a facility that educates children in the second through fifth grades on things such as what to do in an emergency, how to call 911, etc. Obviously, the education had paid off because Thomas rushed into the church and dialed 911. Thankfully, once Helicopter 3 arrived on the scene, they were able to use their FLIR system (Forward Looking Infrared Radar) and locate poor Sally. Medic 26 rushed her to the hospital, and due to her brother's quick action and the excellent care by the paramedics and doctors, she was brought back from the beyond and recovered completely. Picture S16-3 https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Smithfield--51--Water_Rescue.jpg align=baseline> With all of the commuting that people were doing, and with all of the business through Smithfield and coming in and out of Smithfield a small private airport was constructed. The property that was purchase by the Smithfield Mass Transit Authority was certainly larger than the airport to anticipate possible growth in future years. Picture S16-4 https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Smithfield--52--Local_Airport.jpg align=baseline> Well folks, that's it for the initial construction of Smithfield. In the future, we will come back to this town as well as others to show future development and growth. For now, I will leave everyone with an overall shot of the entire town. I will, most likely tomorrow, post a picture update showing closer shots of the town to show the final product. Wow. Like others have said, I can't believe I've missed this one so far. At least I've gotten in on page 2 before I missed too much. As for the terraforming, it is definitely coming along nicely. I definitely like the high rises and the mountainside, terraced housing. Me personally, I'm not sure if I would put alot more of the skyscrappers in or not, but this is just personal preference. I definitely like the oil refinery. Question though, did I miss something or did you somehow use Opie's canal set with the refinery somehow?? Good CJ. Keep it going...
-
Darmok, Go check out my latest update for my CJ. I think you and the citizens of Anduin Valley will be presently surprise!! [:0]
-
If you visit my CJ (the link from my signature) and look at the next to the last page, you'll see what you can do with the University pack of 11 buildings from STEX. Maybe an idea for ya... The preview pic, good enough to make us come back for more!!
-
Hmmm...I think I'm gonna take a break from real life and my honey do list today and visit the theme park for a while and then stop in to gamble. RLS!!!

Date: 5/6/2005 11:03:27 PM Author: ephorex_77 LOL, I'm know that the mayor statue is a reward . I'm not that noobie am I?? I just thought that the whole thing was a lot somewhere in the STEX. How did you get the park benches, trails and lamp posts?? That's what I'm really interested in . TIA. quote> Sorry, wasn't trying to insult ya. Just trying to be of some assistance. Now, if only we had another update to post comments on...
-
This CJ is pretty cool. I like the concept. I especially like the canal system, kind of reminds me of pictures of Venice, Italy (have to rely on pictures, since I probably will never get there in my lifetime because RLS!!! ) Me, I'm a sucker for a good storyline in a CJ; guess that's why I write my CJ the way I do. Keep up the good work and never get discouraged!!
-
Well all, decided to take a much needed break from my RLS. Digging a garden by hand is a you-know-what!! Hit that brick wall hard and took all the wind out of me. Guess the best way to get my wind back, is to post another update!! ********************** First of all, I found a gated community set on the STEX that I downloaded. I updated my gated community and I really like the outcome. Walls instead of fences, and a gatehouse with an actual guard. Here is an update, even showing the guard stopping an outgoing vehicle. Picture S15-1 Within the first few weeks of operation, the prison in Smithfield was filling quickly. Alfred began negotiations with the federal government to potentially add a federal prison on the same property within a few years. Many legal clinicians had to travel a good distance attend to their clients within the prison walls. To aid in their work, a judicial district was established on the south-central side of Smithfield. Once the area was designated, the federal government purchased the property from Smithfield. In one corner, a plot was leased back to Smithfield for $1 per year. This was so that Smithfield could establish a police headquarters, capable of housing local inmates (sentenced to 18 months or less) as well as provide for a growing regional police force. The district was constructed in two distinct phases. Both were constructed simultaneously, however Phase 1 was completed months ahead of Phase 2. Phase 1 comprised of the Smithfield Police Headquarters, as well as a small federal park. The park was for the Park of the Unknown Police Officer. This park was dedicated to all of the police officers who had died in the line of duty. Picture S15-2 (Judicial District - Phase 1) Phase 2 comprised of several more buildings. First of all, the buildings were constructed in clockwise order starting in the upper west (upper left) corner. The first building to be built was the Superior Court, 5th District. Next was the Dhoppeii National Law Library. Law professors from Yale, Harvard and many other of the nation's most prestigous law schools helped to fashion and fill the library. Next was the Swiss Embassy (this was a small plot of land that was not big enough for another large installation.) After the Swiss Embasy came the Pegasus Federal Tower (had to dedicate at least one building to PEG, since I use so many of his buildings - kind of funny that a non-PEG BAT is dedicated with his name ). This skyscraper is used for many of the federal legal entities that maintain regional presences such as the CIA, Secret Service, Department of Justice, etc. Next was the Anduin Valley Embassy (this was another small plot that was not big enough for another large building. Finally, the National Center for Legal Education was constructed. This building houses many legal clinicians such as judges, lawmakers and prosecutors. The building also is an extension campus for the Georgetown University Law School; they were looking for a small presence in this portion of the country and Smithfield fit the bill. Several small plazas were constructed along the way to give plenty of room for relaxation during those long days in court. Picture S15-3 (Judicial District - Phase 2) https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Smithfield--43--Judicial_District_Closeup2.jpg align=baseline> Here is an overall view of the entire judicial district once construction was complete. The large pine tree in the lower left corner is the seasonal pine tree which gets decorated with Christmas lights during the holidays. Picture S15-4 https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Smithfield--41--Judicial_District.jpg align=baseline> And finally, a nice parting shot showing a freight train as it passes through Smithfield. Hmm...if there is a way I'm not aware of it. I'd like to know if there is, because the underwater tunnels using the method I do are HE** when I do UDI...depending on the slope of the opposite shore I sometimes can't get up the other side.
-
Well D, another great update. I just love the waterfront set and you should see some more of that in my upcoming updates for my next city. This is certainly a classis CJ for the ages...will certainly go down that way in my book! Oh, and I love the Little Madrid idea...I was thinking Little Italy since you know, I do have Italian in my blood!! (Sorry, couldn't resist the inside joke!! [:0] ) And where did you find Pepe's...I've never seen that one before...I'll have to download that one... As for this... Thanks a lot aldara! And as for the other cities, don't worry you'll see them, a little patience is all! And speaking of patience, you jumped us to page 25, I really hope to get there , but for now we're at page 17 quote> On my screen, it says we are on page 25...I've checked it again and again over two days...my CJ tends to do this to me sometimes too...it will jump a few pages forward and then back. It's almost like instead of 25 or 30 updates per page it suddenly reformats the CJ into 20 posts per page and creates several pages. Then, almost like magic it goes back to normal again. Not sure...maybe just a bug...oh well... WELCOME TO PAGE 25 ANYWAY MAN!! godwin1020, Quick answer to your underwater tunnel question. Use the CNTRL-ALT-SHIFT cheat to get back to the original God Mode Tools. Choose the quick leveler brush and adjust the size of the circle. Drag it from one side of your water to the other, wherever you want your tunnel so that you have a land bridge going from one side to the other. Make sure the terrain is the same level on both sides and, using the tunnel digging lots, build your tunnel as normal. When your tunnel is done, go back to the God Mode Tools and choose the quick leveler brush again. Level the water so that you destroy the land bridge. Terraform your coast line how you want it (taking care not to destroy your tunnel entrances) and you are done. Take a look at page one of my CJ, I have a tunnel that was built this way. Hope that helps...

Date: 5/6/2005 8:04:22 PM Author: kingofsimcity The Farms inside the prison walls look great! I guess thats another way to torture captive sims, to harvest tobacco... A - B - S - O - L - U - T - E - L - Y !!!!! Date: 5/6/2005 8:58:03 PM Author: Sparks1176 great update, are there farms that are ploppable? or did you grow those farms? The farms are the BTE enabled farms by Barbyw and her crew at BSC. I also have the No Maxis Farms mod installed so that I ONLY get the BTE farms. There are a few ploppable farms on the STEX, but these farms actually contribute to a series of rewards, so I like these a lot!! All...I'm in the process of working on my first attempt at a BAT. Not sure how it is gonna turn out, but I'm gonna try it. It will probably end up being a bank that gives something like a $20,000 donation to the city coffers each month. I know, not really original but it is a help. I'm also in the process of another update or two but I think I will hit a RLS brick wall this weekend...damn honey do lists. So, I'll be in the same boat as you guys (Darmok and dhop - just save some of the fish for me!! ) If I get enough time, I'll get some of the final updates in this weekend for Smithfield. And as always, thanks to everyone who is following along. Starting with my next city, Lighthouse Cove, there will be some rewards for my religious followers.

Date: 5/6/2005 10:28:00 AM Author: godwin1020 the frames of the pictures looks odd to me, better to be natural Thanks for your comments. I certainly appreciate them and value everyone's comments, but so far you are the only dissenting vote for the framed look. Several people I correspond with in their CJ's use the same idea just different graphics, so it isn't an unpopular look. Come back and become a regular contributor though, I certainly can use the constructive criticism. Date: 5/6/2005 11:22:13 AM Author: dhoppeii aldara - That looks incredible. You certainly have a knack for combining many different lots and making them look credible. I really like the idea of the farm plots inside the prison walls. Great Update dhop, as always thanks for stopping by dear friend. I got the farm idea from one of the state prison's in my area. They have farms, but they are outside the walls of the prison, mainly because they were an after-thought years after the prison was built. Because of this, they have to have extra security in place whenever they have inmates doing ANYTHING on the farm. I figure, with the farms INSIDE the walls of the prison, you could get away with less security and besides, I have snipers with high-power, long-range sniper rifles in my towers. So, one false move and Smithfield will have one less inmate to support!!

This update will be brief, since I want to get some serious game time in today on my new city in the region. I am quickly going to be drawing the initial updates of Smithfield to a close. I think I only have something like 20 pictures left. ******************************* Mayor Smith realized that Smithfield needed to draw in it's share of business deals. There had been numerous offers from various casino conglomerates to build a casino on or near the property of the Pine Mountain Resort. Alfred had refused all of these lucrative offers simply on principle. The traffic in Smithfield was getting bad enough and they really had little or no crime to speak of. He didn't want to give any of these things a chance to escalate. So, after speaking with Artimus' government contact, two major business deals were inked. The first is the subject of this update. It is the Springfield Correctional Training Center. This facility is a pre-release facility for non-violent prisoners. Prisoners are selected to be housed here based on a number of factors, the biggest of which is the belief by the prison psychologist that this inmate has the best chance of successfully reintegrating into society with little chance of returning to prison. This facility teaches various mechanical and vocational skills, which is indicative of the farms that are on-site. These farms are actually worked by the inmates and the food is sold to nearby towns to help offset the cost of training these individuals. They can also obtain any number of business related degrees so that they may obtain an office-type position if they are not as mechanically inclined as others. Yep, it's official. This is definitely one of the best CJ's I've followed! Gotta say, I like C.A., but I can't wait for which cities you do next! Keep em coming dude! Oh yeah, and it looks like I get to say WELCOME TO PAGE 25! Way to go man!
-
Again, let me just say I love this CJ. It's Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreat! I especially like dhop's park. My only suggestion for the park is the parking...and this is just personal preference. I like starting my parking areas with the road/trail connector that comes in Jeronij's set. Gives it a more clean transition look. Again, this is just personal preference and if you don't change it it won't detract from the look of the park...it will still look great. *wonders when he will be granted citizenship* Keep the updates coming. By the way, I'm looking through some of my frequented CJ's for a small inlet/warf type area to put in my next city. The one I'm working on now is coming to a close soon, so watch for any ideas I've picked up from your CJ. Date: 5/6/2005 5:57:51 AM Author: ephorex_77 I know I've said this before, but your city's transportation system is beautiful, esp. the sunken highways. Your park (mayor statue) looks real neat as well. Btw, can you tell me where you got the mayor's statue (with the surrounding light poles, park benches and tree) from? TIA. If I'm not mistaken, this statue is simply one of the in-game reward statues. The park itself though is built with wall kits and Jeronij's tarmac trails set.

Date: 5/4/2005 3:43:15 AM Author: GaryGB Hi guys. I am sort of new to all of this, so I would to ask how I could go about downloading some of the wonderful objects on this website, and how I'd go about using them in the game. I've been looking for that sea wall one forever. =( I was also wondering if you could provide a link for me to download them? I only ask this because I'm new to all of this, and I don't wish to mess anything up. =P Anyways, thanks for the future help, and great cities guys, I thought my cities were good. Put me to shame. =Pquote> Welcome to STEX. Now, Lesson #1, one thing you will need to do alot of is download, Download, DOWNLOAD. Lesson #2 - search the forums for how to organize your pluggins folders. This will tell you where to put each type of file. Easiest way though to remember, any LOT file goes in My Documents/SimCity4/Pluggins and all others (DESC, DAT and MODEL files) go into Program Files/Maxis/SimCity4 Delux/Pluggins. Again, welcome to STEX. Many of us have hundreds of downloads. Good terms to search with are BSC, CSX, NDEX and PEG (PEG has the seawall kits.) There are many others, but you'll get the hang of it. Also, watch the front page of this web site every day, as the new downloads are listed about 1/3 of the way down on the right. Enjoy...

Date: 5/5/2005 11:15:08 AM Author: dhoppeii aldara - The resort area looks incredible.....The building looks great and your use of the tarmac trails nearby are perfect. I really like how you setup the trails for horseback riding... Great Update quote> Thanks dhoppeii. If you remember, these are the walking trails from the indians that were found by the initial settlers of Smithfield back in Update 2. I just added a few. I actually considered changing the trails to the pine trails. I like how you incorporate them with your farms and I may redo the resort that way too. Haven't decided yet...but you'll get pics if I do.
-
godwin1020, I have a few suggestions for you. But, I don't feel it's right to impose on D's CJ. Start a new CJ thread and I'll offer my suggestions.

https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Update_13--Smithfield.gif align=baseline> Paul Samuelson, one of the more prominent real estate moguls in the area has decided that Smithfield will be the site of his next big real estate venture. This venture will be entitled Pearson Towers, LLC. This venture is to be the first (and one of the only) high-rise buildings that the zoning committee is going to approve for Smithfield. The building is entirely residential and spurs much commercial development / upgrades once finished. The project is located at the bottom of the terraced residentials, directly across from the St. Francis Mission. Picture S13-1 https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Smithfield--33--High_Rise.jpg align=baseline> The commission that studied recreation (a few posts) had also recommended some sort of recreational use for the hilltop lakes and trails. So, Alfred hired the firm of Mathis & Jackson to develop Pine Mountain Resort. The resort includes various activities such as tennis and swimming. You can even take a leisurely ride through the trails on horseback. ** NOTE ** In my area, the mountains have a lot of pine trees on the sides and tops of the mountains. There is a gradual transition to mainly deciduous trees (I.e. maple, poplar, etc.) as you come down the mountain. So, I've decided to try this here and see how I like it. I may change it and take out all the pine trees when the area is finished and just rename the resort but I haven't decided yet. We'll see. Picture S13-2 (Overall View) https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Smithfield--34--Pine_Mtn_Resort.jpg align=baseline> Here is a view of the main resort area beside the lake, including the hotel, recreation areas and shopping. Picture S13-3 https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Smithfield--35--Main_Resort_Area.jpg align=baseline> And finally for this update, a picture of the horseback trails at the resort. Picture S13-4 https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Smithfield--36--Horse_Trails.jpg align=baseline>
