Thanks again for the comments! :D

Thanks for these comments! I enjoy reading them. :D
  3. Greyscale elevation calculator

Awesome! There were a couple minor errors in numbers, but I fixed those. When I did, I noticed something very interesting. Most of the greyscale '0's were near -250m. I looked at the plugins in iLive again, and sure enough the water depth is set to a default of 250m. More importantly, this one piece of information allowed me to remake all my plugins to be PRECISE. Instead of a max elevation of 1491 meters above sea level, the 1500m plugin now has a max elevation of 1500 meters above sea level, as advertised. I also changed the spreadsheet to account for these new numbers, and have attached it to this post. Thanks a million, moganite!

MatrixDJ, my map is more accurate than yours. Your map covers a much larger area, but because of that it does not take in to account the horizontal and vertical scale. Mine doesn't include all the terrain features because they are off my map.

    Thanks for the comments, guys!
  6. Help with real world scale accurate maps

Heh, I wish I could. I'm at home in Oregon right now without my computer until Monday. Until then, I can unfortunately be of little help. However, when I get back I'll look this up ASAP.
  7. No problem. Let us know how it turns out.
  8. That's the problem. Here's is the solution to that problem, directly from the thread I linked earlier: 2 - Make sure the config.bmp file is in the correct folder. There are two folders for regions: C:\Documents and Settings\Username\My Documents\SimCity 4\Regions\Region Name\ C:\Program Files\Maxis\SimCity 4\Regions\Region Name\ It needs to be in the FIRST one (in My Documents). Sim City 4 does not use the second folder for loading region maps. In other words, you can't make your region folders in your Program Files region section, you have to make it in your My Documents region section.
  9. Hmm... that looks correct. Can you try one more thing? Right click on the config.bmp file, go to "Properties", and copy and paste the link here. I want to make sure it's not in a folder within a folder or anything.
  10. Well that means the correct config.bmp isn't in the correct folder. Can you take a screenshot of your folder to show us?
  11. I checked my North Sydney map, and it should be correct. Have you checked this thread?: https://www.simtropolis.com/for...id=72067&enterthread=y It's not number three, but it could be one of the first two problems.

It seems that the attachments have disappeared, so I'm reattaching my plugins folder. Plugins1.zip
  13. MallowTheClouds Official Map Making Guide

Date: 2/19/2006 8:18:40 PM Author: Skink000 Just a few things I have noticed . . . . In Global Mapper When measuring with the ruler try holding down the left shift key. It should override the scroll arrows that get in the way. Cleaning out old Global Mapper shaders Go to Crogram FilesGlobalMapper6 open the file 'custom_shaders.txt' with notepad delete the contents of that file (but not the file itself) close and save the file Next time you open Glabal Mapper all your custom shaders will be gone. You could also (I have not tried it, but do not see why it would not work) edit out the shaders you want to get rid of and save those you want to keep. quote> Date: 2/21/2006 11:37:05 PM Author: RiverCocytus Mystyx: To avoid this annoyance at sea level, set your colour to just above sea level. For instance, if sea level is 84, use 85.. if sea level is 20, use 21... etc., It seems to make 1 meter pits around the map for every map that is flat. 'Reconcile edges' will not cure this as they are already reconciled (and very messed up!) This is not an image compression issue, instead it is just a rendering engine shortcut issue. I wish we could mod the rendering engine-- that would be totally Out of control. Nice looking island, btw. quote> Thanks for the tips, guys! RiverCocytus... I believe there is indeed a way to mod other rendering properties. Somebody was looking in to a similar problem: https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=72708
  14. MallowTheClouds Maps

Date: 2/19/2006 11:36:06 AM Author: Sc4mayor_Gabz08 I would like a map of Winnipeg and area, espescially the forks between he red river and the other one. Another one would be a map with the shape of nova scotia ! Thank you!quote> There are a couple plugins which don't seem like they should impact the terrain rendering process, but they do. If you have Cycledogg's Terrain Mod, that's an example of one of them. My suggestion would be to move all your plugins (except the 1000m.dat) to a temporary folder while rendering, and then move them back when rendering is finished. For those who have requested maps, as I noted above, I have been very busy with school recently. If I can get some more free time, I'd be happy to make these maps for you.

Date: 2/18/2006 7:58:02 PM Author: pianista About ROME, ITALY https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?mode=files&filetype=Map&Str=rome%20italy Excellent job, but when I load the jpg file, after 30 minutes it goes, but there's no river neither sea: at the place of sea the is a plane, in place of tiber there's a canyon and the rest of map is a mountain. Where I am in wrong? In other words, altitude is wrong Any suggestion?quote> Hello! The problem is with your plugins. Either you are using a terrain mod that changes the import factors, or you are not using the plugin that is required (as listed in the description of the map). sloppet and adambrown14ADAM14, I have been very busy with school lately. I will be able to do this maybe later, but currently I just don't have the time. Sorry.
  16. My little isle

The screenshot for this map doesn't match the greyscale.
  17. Anak Krakatau

Well, I wouldn't describe it as arrogant. Maybe its not the best map... but arrogant means the person believes only they are right... and I don't see where rocketoink ever inferred that. Also, it technically is spelled Krakatau... Krakatoa is just a less proper way to spell it.
  18. Edgeton Cliffs

rocketoink... there are instructions for using configs. I suggest you look them up. :) For a first map, it's nice.
  19. Minocqua

    Nice map!
  20. No problem! I'm glad it worked out for you.
  21. MallowTheClouds Maps

A detailed tutorial of how I make my maps can be found here . All the programs you need should be linked at the beginning of the tutorial.
  22. I checked the config.bmp file and the region file, and they match. Are you sure the config.bmp is in the correct folder? If you are calling your region Whidby Island, you will want to follow these steps: 1. Create a new folder with named Whidby Island in your ...My Documents/Sim City 4/Regions directory. 2. Download the config.bmp file and place it in the new folder 3. Download the WHIDBY.jpg file and remember where you downloaded it to. 4. Run your SimCity 4 game 5. Open the new region 6. On your keyboard, press and hold down 'ctrl' + 'alt' + 'shift' + 'r'--this should bring up a dialogue box 7. Browse to the folder that you downloaded WHIDBY.jpg to, find WHIDBY.jpg, and open this file. 8. This should start the rendering, and a screen should appear saying Creating New City. BE PATIENT. This will probably take between 15 and 45 minutes to render.
  23. Which map specifically are you having problems with?
  24. MallowTheClouds Maps

Thanks for the comments! joeynymets: I have a program that allows me to export elevation maps as greyscales. However, unfortunately I still have to draw in the water wherever it is. For me, that's the most time-consuming part.
