Official Mapp Squad Discussion
MallowTheCloud replied to huskerman007's topic in Mapping Community Room
Woohoo! As you can see, I linked my signature image to this thread. So... I'm going over to my friend's place today, but the first map from me should be Sunday or Monday, and it will be a fantasy one (Duthford). -
Official Mapp Squad Discussion
MallowTheCloud replied to huskerman007's topic in Mapping Community Room
Seems like fun. If you need more people, I am in the same boat as Big_Baazzoo... but I'm sure I could be of some help. Count me in (please). -
Wow! Great city. One question though... are you running SC4 on Linux? If so, did they make a Linux version, or are you using a Windoze version? Because, right now, basically the only reason I am using Windoze is because of SC4.

Sun Valley, a Bobinator city journal
MallowTheCloud replied to bobinator's topic in SC4 City Journals
Ooh, I see a Portland building in there (the Nordstrom building). And, I also agree with kingofsimcity and supersimman... you didn't put too much focus on making a dense jungle of skyscrapers. In other words, you really spent some time with planning (or at least that's what it looks like). Keep up the GREAT work!!! -
You always do so much work, Jeroni, and all it does is make us happy! We love seeing all these creative ideas, and the cities are very aesthetically pleasing. So, although we know it's hard work, keep it up! You have made fans of us all.
-
Great! I love the storyline! It has really evolved since the beginning, and only seems to get better with every update. I hope you can keep up this great work, RHF!

Date: 3/24/2005 2:07:11 PM Author: PhilsCafe Just posting the links to the photos was a good decision since you had a lot of pictures to show, although it would be nice to see the pictures right in the CJ. Maybe next time, you could post the imageshack thumbnails. Wow, a lot of canals... The PhilsCafe Park looks wonderful. That's one of my favorite places in town - Philquote> Hmm.... thumbnails eh? I'll keep that in mind. It's a great idea. And... sloppet... that last post was full of pictures. They're links. Thanks for your comments, PhilsCafe. I always love feedback. Anyway, I decided to make a few regional pictures. The hand made traffic one took a couple hours to make, but I think it's worth it... I hope. The hand made map is based on LakeTrash311's traffic map, so a special thanks to him for letting me borrow his idea... though I didn't ask yet. I'll do that right away. Here are the pictures, in no particular order... So, what do you think? As always, any questions, comments, concerns, or suggestions are greatly appreciated!!! Thanks.

WOW! This is so realistic! And those traffic maps... I once tried to do something like that, and I know from experience how excrutiating (sp?) it can be. And I use three tools; Paint, iDraw, and IrfanView. It doesn't make things faster, though. I have to say it again... wow! Great job. EDIT: I made a similar type of traffic map for my CJ. I hope you don't mind me using your idea. If you do, I'll take the map out.

Alright. First of all, to jacqulina, RHF, and your_adress_here: Thanks again for replying, and for your great compliments! Secondly, I remembered that I hadn't named my seaports yet. So, I dub the smaller seaport with rail connection as the AfroThunda Seaport. The larger one with no rail connection will henceforth be known as the Alkaola Seaport. Now, I still have 4 visitors who have nothing named after them. Fear not! This update should take care of that. After all, I have 19 new images... sheesh, this post is gonna take awhile. Anyways, lets get on with the show. I think I'm going to post links this time, as 19 new images on one page would just kill dial-up connections. First, let's see the new and (I think) improved Jeroni Park ! Here's another shot of it from the east. Next, let's take a trip east to the township of Windy River. I named it that on purpose, because there are two possible pronunciations, and I don't know which one is right. First, the landform it was built on. You can also see the zoning plan . Now let's zoom in a little. Here is the MayorTim Park located in the center of the residential area. The farmland looks nice also. And finally, a zoomed out view of Windy River. Alright. Now that we're done with Windy River, on to the north of Nehalem. This is the small farming community of Moss. Just a few roads , as you can see. And look at the landform . Ok, so Moss was just a quick update. However, when we head west of Nehalem, this is where the fun really begins. First, the landform that Moro and West Nehalem are built on. Next, I'll show the highway west from Nehalem. Alright, so there are two cities on this landform, as I mentioned: Moro and West Nehalem . West Nehalem is really just an extension of the city of Nehalem itself. And a better view . The park you can see in those pictures is jacqulina Park. Now, when Moro started, I knew I had a big project (an experiment of sorts) in front of me. The first thing was to flatten the land . Next, I built the canals, and this is how it looked when it was about halfway done . The park in the middle was built because at first, I had the canals in that gridlike pattern throughout the entire city. But, I didn't like how boxy it was, so I changed it up a little in the middle and made a nice PhilsCafe Park . And this is what Moro looks like now (though it is not 100% complete). By the way, the beach that you see there is the superchad Beach. And that's that. So, how are the pictures? Should I have kept them as regular images, or would you rather have the links? Thanks again for all your wonderful comments and suggestions! As always, any questions, comments, concerns, or suggestions are greatly appreciated!!! Thanks. EDIT: Welcome to page 3!!!

Hmm... I know I haven't posted here in awhile, but I got kind of bored with SC4 for a bit. Everybody needs a break sometime, eh? Anyway, I'm playing again. There has been much progress in Nehalem... but I think I'll post my next update tomorrow. (I need sleep ). But, I will say this... MayorTim, superchad, crazyarchitect, Simguyuk, RHF, PhilsCafe, TheGuardianAngel, and SC4 meister: Thank you ALL for your wonderful comments and suggestions. I will, of course, keep your suggestions in mind while I continue to build. So, what to expect? A coastal canal city, and lots of forest. As well as a little trimming up of the outskirts of the city of Nehalem itself (it was too square, after all). Hope you will join me for the next update, and thanks again for visiting.

Wow, I can see the whole city! It looks amazing! I like it this way... I love all those windy roads, because that's how roads climb mountains and you showed it perfectly. So much attention to detail in all of your pictures. So, as always, keep up the GREAT work Jeroni!

It's here . Read hockey97's first post, it's a little less than halfway down the page. All I have to say is, I hope this can be finished. I know of many projects that are started, but never finished, and I can only hope that this isn't one of them. Good luck, hockey97.

BREAKING NEWS: Will Wright announces NEW game!!!!
MallowTheCloud replied to guuz's topic in Gaming Talk
Hmm... well.... I agree. This game is not a replacement for the Sim City series. When SC5 comes out, I am getting it... HOWEVER!!! That does not diminish how great this game looks. To those who liked SimEarth, but didn't think it was nearly advanced enough this is the perfect game... For me, this is now one of two games that I look forward to playing (SC5 being the other one). -
Date: 3/19/2005 5:10:47 PM Author: RadioheadFan Yes, I chose Oregon because it sounds so peaceful, especially along the coast. This is just me, but I've always envisioned Oregon like a little piece of Ireland in America. I've never been there, but if you have, tell me if this makes sense.quote> I don't think it's just you. I've always said the two places I want to visit around the world are Ireland and New Zealand. I think it's because of their similarities to Oregon. So, I would have to agree. And your story continues to be intriguing. You can be sure I'll be here waiting for the next update.

WOW! So many posts! That's a good thing, I hope. First of all, thanks to all the new posters in here: TheGuardianAngel, jeronij, PhilsCafe, AfroThunda, and Alkaola. And thank you for all your wonderful comments... you make me blush every time I read one . Secondly, to all the ones that have posted here before: RadioheadFan, Sim_Idiot, bobinator, mayormommy, crazyarchitect, SC4 meister, and Muzz, thanks for your wonderful comments also... but a special thanks for visiting again! And a special thanks to Muzz for pointing that link out for me. I had forgotten who's signature I found it in. And, just to answer a question... mayormommy's question... sure. I'll post a region shot for you all on this update. There's only one populated city (I removed the temporary demand boost city), so it looks a little odd. But, that'll be fixed. So, I take it it's time for an update... and I have five more landmarks to find so I can put names to them. Well, since mayor Jeroni has inspired much of my work (not to mention providing the parks), I would like to dedicate my favourite park yet to him. This is Jeroni Park! I also created a large nature reserve and park. It's along the coast, right next to an elementary school. Many of the students have an outdoor school in the park once a year, to study nature. I have named the park TheGuardianAngel Park. See it below. I hope PhilsCafe, AfroThunda, and Alkaola can be patient. I will find something to name after you guys, but it may take just a little time. Hopefully by next update you all three will have your own special part of Nehalem. Next we have a closeup on fivedayrental Field, where developement can now be seen surrounding it. Next is the final (and I mean it this time )version of RadioheadFan Marina. I didn't like how the marina was sitting so far above the water, and also how the boats were overlapping. This is one of my favourite bridges in Nehalem. It's so... quaint. Next is a line of palm trees on a beach. Nehalem is not a tropical or mediterranean area, but somebody from Florida moved here and missed the palm trees... so they planted a row of them. Well, the next picture will be the last photo from Nehalem for now. I'm going to neighboring cities to boost the residential population... right now Nehalem has over 120,000 commercial population and less than 100,000 residential. So, we leave Nehalem with a nice picture of a boat on the open water. As promised, the region shots. I think I am going westward next. So... Nehalem is finished for now, but by all means not complete. Much will be done to come in Nehalem, but for now, other areas in the region need attention. So, next update you should see the beginnings of a coastal community. Hope you liked this update, and, as always, any questions, comments, concerns, or suggestions are greatly appreciated!!! Thanks.

Wow! Sa Pusa looks amazing! I can't wait to see more... And as always, Jeroni, keep up the GREAT WORK!
-
Geez... I'll assume that's PhotoShop... and say you are VERY good at image editing! I love all those little personal touches, like the painting. Keep up the great work!
-
Yep, I just downloaded that rural pack myself. It looks like it will be a great addition. Thanks for the tip, Jeroni!!!
-
Oregon eh? That's where I live ... and it is a great place. Anywho... about that city building comment.... I dunno if that's true. If it is, it's just because I have been playing SC4 since it first came out... And besides, your writing skills far surpass mine. Have you seen Duthford? In the beginning I tried to make a storyline... but I suck at that. Yours is what keeps people coming back to Thistlewood. Interesting storylines can create a great CJ. So, keep it up!

Sun Valley, a Bobinator city journal
MallowTheCloud replied to bobinator's topic in SC4 City Journals
Nice region! I can never get my regions to look that realistic.... -
Alright then! Time for an update... but first a word from your local sponsor... who just happens to be me . Thanks to both bobinator and Sim_Idiot for commenting, and thanks for the wonderful compliments, Sim_Idiot. So, as promised, I have named some landmarks after every person who has visited this CJ and posted. There are still plenty of landmarks to come, and some yet to be named. And I haven't even started naming the streets and roads yet! Anyways... So, I'm just going to post all the pictures with no introductions... because there are thirteen pictures! As you can see, I have a new airport and golf course. Are they okay? Or should I get rid of them? As always, any questions, comments, concerns, or suggestions are greatly appreciated!!! Thanks.

Hi all. RadioheadFan, mayormommy, and your_adress_here: Thanks for your wonderful comments! SC4 meister: Thanks for the welcome to page two. And... that's a good idea to make the building historical. Unfortunately, it had already been replaced before I had the chance to do so, but I was patient and waited until another marina office grew (it's a different building, but it looks good there as well). I'll make sure to make it historical this time. Thanks for the suggestion and the comments! So, the next update will take place tomorrow morning. And this time I'm not lying. I basically have everything ready to update, but I want to go to sleep. Once again, thanks for all the great comments. I'll keep my updates coming, and you guys just keep commenting ...
-
Yeah, suburbs sound good to me too.
-
Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone! Alright then. Sorry about me being late... I'll try to make a more accurate guess next time I predict when I'll update the CJ.... Anyways... RadioheadFan and bobinator: Thank you very much for your concerns and comments! So, it's update time again. Let's see, soon I will name roads and other things in Nehalem... and I think I'll start by naming things after those who have commented here! But, for now Nehalem is still growing. I have finished the industrial sector, and added some mid-rise residences between the high rises and the single family housing. So... here come the pictures. The first pictures will be the new highway which runs east-west through Nehalem. I did some bulldozing to make way for it, but I needed some sort of bridge to cross the wide Nehalem River. Let's start in the west and move our way eastward. Next is the marina area. I sort of agree with RadioheadFan in that the marina's offices are measley. So... I added an office of my own (well, actually I zoned commercial and one grew for me). Here it is... Next is just a quick picture of the mid rise area behind the high rise residences. Next, we have a couple pictures of the new industrial area. The first is some shoreside rowhouses that grew across the street from some industry. The other is my industrial park in the center of my northern industrial sector. Finally, a zoomed out view of some of the new happenings in Nehalem. So, as always, any questions, comments, concerns, or suggestions are greatly appreciated!!! Thanks.

I'm still hooked on the storyline. So... you can bet I'll be coming back. Keep it up!
