Cant use alt-shift-control-R to render regions!
MallowTheCloud replied to slightlyslack's topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
Date: 7/28/2005 3:32:12 AM Author:slightlyslack I have been having lots of problems lately getting the SKU1_638 patch to install properly on my XP64 system. I've been able to get that going just fine, but now for some reason I cannot use the alt-shift-control-R command to render a region from a JPEG. I get the file selection menu and can select an image from which to render, but nothing happens. When I intentionally select an image that does not correlate with the size of the config.bmp, I don't get the usual error message, either. Electronic Arts has said that it does not offer technical assistance on importing regions. (One wonders whether they expect everyone playing SC4 to hand-terraform every map on which they play.) Has anyone else had this problem, and are there any known fixes? quote> I have had that same problem before... but unfortunately I don't know how I got it fixed. Maybe I reinstalled the game? -
Great as always, jeroni! I think my favourite idea is in 95.05... with the 3x3 commercial zone and only one corner facing the road. That's a good idea, and a good way to save space in diagonal areas like that.

Aerial Photography Discussion
MallowTheCloud replied to the_new_simman's topic in Architecture & Urban Planning
Since last time I did Google Earth and NASA World Wind photos, methinks I'll do a 'real' aerial one this time. (Of course, the picture is a copyright of it's respective owner. ) -
It also greatly depends on the slope and elevation of the beach. If the water just offshore is to shallow, or the land just onshore is too high... or even if the slope is too steep (or shallow, as you need deep enough waters), it won't work. It is a pain, I agree.

Date: 7/24/2005 10:09:21 PM Author:defacto123 I've seen people post edited screenshots with arrows, words, etc. on them. How do you do that? Can you do them in IrfanView?quote> I don't know of a way to do it in IrfanView, but if you have MSPaint, it works just fine for that.

Just thought I'd drop in since I haven't posted in here in awhile. You continue to do amazing work, Jeroni!

Date: 7/24/2005 2:14:08 AM Author: Shadow_Assassin At least they learnt from that mistake... FF7 was a cool game, but I didn't like FF8quote> LOL, yay, two people agree with me! I despised FF8 as well (as zelgadis already knows )

You corrected the text part of the link... lemme explain a bit better: https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=66295 https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/view?topicID=66295 The top is what you have in text. It is correct. The bottom is what you have in the [a href=] tag. You need what's INSIDE the [a href=] tag to say https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=66295 instead of just https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/view?topicID=66295. ( Replace the [ ] with < > )

Date: 7/23/2005 4:33:00 PM Author: trigger1000 Big Rigs obviously wins worst game ever...quote> Agreed. Here's the worst game I've ever played: Overlord (a game for NES). If you've ever played Gemfire (a great game), Overlord is like that. The differences being it's planet-based rather than feudal-system-based, and it's way too tough. Last time I checked on GameFAQs (a couple years ago), they had one FAQ for it, and it basically said they didn't know how to get past a certain point in the game, because the computer player always seems to do everything faster than you possibly can.

To make accurate maps of real world terrains, or even non-accurate maps somewhat based on real world terrains... you only need a set of free tools listed at the beginning of my tutorial . If you have a specific terrain that you would like to create, but does not exist in real life, it would probably be easiest to use Bryce5.5, as frndofyaweh says.

Date: 7/22/2005 2:14:59 PM Author: Quack I just tried to look at why i couldnt start a region w.o water and the reconcile will keep coming up on all borders... It's hard to make your own region the config.bmp way when you dont have the notepad. And look in your regions folder see a notepad that has the settings..quote> Huh? What exactly are you trying to do?... I don't quite understand. The 'notepad' file (region.ini) will be automatically created, as has been said. Also, if you use the program Landscape Designer it will create the region.ini when you create your region name. But, as has been said before, there is no need for the file. Whatever problems you may be having without the file, you will still be having with the file. I think.

Where everyone is invited. Unless you try to get rid of the club. quote> I must clarify you on this from what I have gathered. You dont mind conversing with a straight person as long as he/she agrees with your lifestyle. Subedeiquote> No, I stick to what I orginally said. As long as the intent of the person is not to get rid of this thread, we have no problem conversing with them.

Official Mapping Community Requests
MallowTheCloud replied to RadioheadFan's topic in Mapping Community Room
Date: 7/21/2005 8:35:46 PM Author: frndofyaweh Well, since I have roamed in everywhere else. Might as well here too. I like unusual maps and unique landscapes. Seems like the majority posting to the Squad, like more accurate real world maps. I make my maps using Bryce5.5 terrain editor. billions of possibilities with this powerful editor and making more accurate topographicals than some I have seen on the STEX. My Bryce software and Adobe software, are legal software and registered with the developer. Do not get me all wrong. I love the Mapp Squad submissions, they are all wonderful artworks! If you will allow me? I would like to post some examples of my maps, in a designated thread? And,...a question. It says in the Members information thread; members who are in-active for a period of time, will be removed, or something close to that.Is there a specific time period? Just curious for now. Thank you in advance and any comments are humbly appreciated.quote> I'm sure we'd love to see some of your maps. And, no, I don't think there's a specific time period for being considered inactive to the point of being kicked off the Mapp Squad. Maybe this conversation would be best in it's own thread. -

Hillary Clinton to take on Rockstar over Hot Coffee
MallowTheCloud replied to the_new_simman's topic in Gaming Talk
Date: 7/20/2005 10:34:55 AM Author: gstommylee Do you know what i find funny so far they are going after the rockstar over this and haven't gone after the hacker for making this illegal hackquote> As has been said so many times... Because this was built in to the game. Kind of like the 'rain' tool was built in to SimCity 4. It's not like somebody 'created' a mod. They just found a way to hack in to the x-rated part of the game. It's really sad that the makers of such a popular game would leave such an offensive part in the game... even if it wasn't accessible without a hack. That's the issue at hand. Why would Rockstar leave that in the game after the beta testing? It's quite obvious that hacking almost anything these days is likely, so they had to know that eventually someone would come up with such a hack. But then, I despise the GTA series anyway... -
Date: 7/20/2005 8:10:11 PM Author: subedei I love getting banned from chat cuz I dont happen to agree with this lefestyle. Subedeiquote> Well, I wasn't there... but judging from the posts in this thread, it was probably not because you disagree with the 'lifestyle'. It was more likely generalizations, insults, and lack of civil conversation that would have somebody banned from chat. Like I said, though... I wasn't there, so I don't really know.
