  1. Back to BAT.......

Alrighty im back from my fathers day excursion and am about to get this thing back on track, on the to do list is fix that door if i find it needs fixing, upon further inspection it is exactly like 9.8ft tall, a normal door runs aproximately 7ft. Beings things in sc4 are typically stretched we will call the average door 8ft, and since this is a mechanical door it could be large to accomodate equipment. I will play with it, I think the problem is that light is coming inside of there for some stupid reason and it shouldnt be so it makes it seem large, but the floor to floor height is 14ft which is pretty typical so I dont really understand the difficulties im having. As far as rendering to the correct scale, well that will be all and good once i figure out why i messed my scale up so bad in cad, lol ive been doing it in ft the whole time just not thinking about it, the building is about 100x100 plus a parking garage that is 100x80 and it stands about 364ft tall, converting that to meters means it roughly a 3x4 lot so i need to go into cad draw a couple 16x16meter squares or 51x51ft squares. As for the garage and cars I think Ive decided to just attempt a simplistic car model in cad (ive never tried before and for good reason, but dang it im ready to give it a go.
  2. Back to BAT.......

Thanks tp, i didnt realize such a massive collection of free models existed anywhere. I used to look all day for that kind of stuff with very little luck, or atleast not near the quality. Btw i need suggestions for future projects..... Im thinking a modular mall, not out door but an actual mall like what you would find khols, sears, pennys, and the gap in.

  4. Back to BAT.......

No worries guys, as said this is merely a half completed bat, i still have tons to add and once i am happy with it i will say so, as for the entry way i still have a plaza yet to build and a ton of other details, I want this to be perfect so as to show you guys that ive still got it. So just keep your eyes out i will have more soon. As for Max well still no luck but im hoping to hear back from simfox soon and possibly a few other members. BTW still in desperate need of some decent car models, although i suppose i could make an attempt at producing my own.

  6. Back to BAT.......

Im not terribly worried about outputting anything yet, the quality is being killed by jpeg compression, and now that you mention it that door is a tad big roughly 10ft tall, oops.... Anyways i am in the process of reworking the roof and base. Tell me what you guys think so far. Oh and I kind of need some cars for my parking garage, anyone have some ideas? I will of course add light poles to the garage and I have plans of building a skybridge between it and the building. As for texturing thats all up in the air right now and the only custom texture on the entire building right now is the roof. Oh and there are fans down those ventilation shafts, you should be able to see them in another view.
  7. Thank you Dirk, and everyone, especially David. I recommend anyone that is interested go check out this same thread at SC4 Devotion, I would post a link, but hey it might be good for some of us to be forced to browse around over there. Anyhow the point is that the reaction over there is with open arms, here we seem to remain stubborn in our position, and it is not a negative position, it is just a stubborn one. You are all right in saying that my words or anyones words will not correct the problem, but that is not what I am asking, I am asking that we show each other respect. I guess I fail to see how hard this should be. I know some people will never understand the meaning of respect, but for the rest of us can we not live with ignoring them?
  8. Back to BAT.......

Thanks ILL Tonkso, and trust me when I say SC4 Lighting ruined any contrast i had previously on the building, but hey trial and error right? Anyways I will get over to the Omni Bus and check that out, i need all the help i can to get me up to speed. By the time i get done with this building I intend for it to be perfect. BTW a huge hand to BarbyW you has so graciously offered to help bring my buildings into SC4. More tonight guys, I need to redo the geometry, rework the base, add double or triple the roof junk, and throw on a new set of textures that are shall we say more simcity friendly.... hehe anyways thanks again.
  9. Back to BAT.......

Thanks guys, and dont fear modeling is not yet done, the lobby needs extensive work, and so do those supports on the roof. Anyways my max is still being retarded. Is there any way i could possibly get someone with msn or aim that uses max to add me to their buddy list? joegeske@gmail.com for either..... Anyhow i manually loaded up the camera and lighting rig, not terribly happy with the result, but here you guys go.
  10. Simtropolis Nostalgia

I remember the days of the great turtle, and era of only having a few thousand members, I remember prior to the lex, and prior to the mod squad. I remember proudly earning my tag of Mod Squad member, and I look down today at my Geek Squad tag in real life and wish it commanded the same respect. I remember meeting friends through simtropolis, and learning to be a kid again, where my imagination had no limits. Those were the days.
  11. An Open Letter to the Community

Dear Communities of BOTH Simtropolis and Sim City 4 Devotion. I understand that many things have gone wrong over the past few years, and because of that our amazing community has been fractured at its very core. That core is the fans that make the content and bring that content to life in cities and on the pages of these great sites. I see constant bickering amongst these communities over where content belongs and where credit should be given, and to be honest it sickens me with every glancing read. I do not mean to deny that things have gone a rye and that people have been mistreated under false pretenses. However, I refuse to accept the misconception that we as a community both Sim City Devotion and Simtropolis, as well as many countless other communities have such different agendas and strengths that we may not function as one again. When I left this community two years ago I was still in high school and by many standards I lacked the maturity to understand that maturity and respect are both things that can only be gained over time. I do not claim to have accomplished adding either of those virtues to my character, but I do know those traits can be found within all of us if we simply look past our differences and learn to once again respect each others talents and passions, which unsurprisingly many of us share. I do not have a vast proposal to bring these communities back together, but I do wish to ask favors of each and every one of you. First off please let us go back to accepting that this is merely a game in which all of us love, and that what we add to the game should be enjoyed by all and not the few that we see fit. Next let us learn to respect each other, this should not be hard to ask of you, it just means when a flamer goes off on another member we defend them rather than sit back and let this abuse occur. More over please do not join in on the complaints, it only tears us apart further and drives members like myself and many others away. Finally I believe that both Simtropolis and Sim City 4 Devotion are amazing sites, and both have very different and yes similar things to bring to the community and both are essential to strengthening us as a whole. However, me must learn to share and be a community as a whole. Forget only uploading content to one site out of loyalty or worse, spite! Doing this accomplishes nothing, and if there is one insult to be given in this thread it is this, If you are the type of person that refuses to share with others simply because you want the fame or the hype or you lack the maturity or understanding to communicate and aid in changing things for the better, then you may need to reassess your priorities. All that said I would like to put forth this gesture of goodwill, I will likely begin working with BSC, members of Simtropolis, and members of SC4 Devotion, in an effort to create new bats and it is my hope that I can help bring a renaissance to this community and its many glorious projects. In doing this I promise to release all of my content at both sites with no personal agenda, and it is my personal vendetta to help aid in the repair of that fracture that weakens us all. Thank You - Joerg. PS: if you kids don't learn to share and play nice I will remove my content and that is like 250,000 downloads so HA! --------------JK, I figured this post could use a good laugh.
  12. Yeah its just part of a cities natural evolution. The sad truth is that investors in projects loose interest, and or money, and the time from conception to ground breaking is usually a pretty long and tedious ordeal that is usually under a great amount of scrutiny from city planners officials, and tax payers. That said cities like Las Vegas, New York, and Dubai are places where there is no shortage of money, and the sad thing is money gets things done on the political side of things aswell so in short when a plan to build a building is put in motion in a place like that it has likely already been passed by the politicians who also happen to be the people likely to make money off of the deal.
  13. Hey guys I am using bat for max with 3ds max 9 and i am getting a few errors. First off I get 2 errors on start up and then the CPbuildingMill script comes up with this line highlighted local dCP = (getDirectories (gNightMatPathCP + "*")) I cant seem to figure out what is going wrong here, I changed my 3dsmax.ini file to point to the gamepacks/bat folder and that reduced a few earlier errors i was having but this one still is stumping me. Once in max i am missing the parameters tool, so i cant make lods, also when i go to preview and click on a zoom or orientation max crashes. Anyhelp?
  14. Back to BAT.......

Lol nope, arch desktop is to clunky in my opinion. I can model in cad 3x faster than in max well for most things anyways, somethings of course are always easier in max like 3d splines, but for buildings cad is sooo much faster, and solids seem easier to deal with for boolean operations and such. Oh one other bat for max question, whats the deal with bat for max v3? Is it available somewhere? Anyways here is a quick teaser of my latest work, might be awhile before it ever sees SC4 but if i can get some help or join one of these crazy bat teams then maybe it could available sooner.
  15. Tangaire

Thanks Cleaner, I really hope your massiver island journal gets underway, sounds like an amazing project. On a side note i kind of did something crazy last night and pulled out cad, 3dsmax and the bat! the building alreadly looks amazing, but i am having some issues with the rendering. So be sure to check back in a couple hours and hopefully i will have pictures and stuff.
  16. Tangaire

I do a little bit of both PathE, the vast majority are god mode trees, but anything along the roads and coasts were probably done by hand. Either way it still take a very long time.
  17. This is most impressive work fox, your attention to detail amazes me. I honestly don't think i could ever spend that much tim developing areas like you seem to. I havent been able to read all 30 something pages but have you posted a full region shot? I would love to see the region as a whole. Your work is truly inspiring, I cant wait to see more. Oh and I love all the golf courses, may i ask what golf pack you are using, it doesnt look like the one I created soo long ago.
  18. Tangaire

And the story of Tangaire continues. Today I would like to tell you guys a bit about the small town of Rushville. Rushville is a small mining community founded in 1883. The community formed near a large silver deposit discovered by a man by the name of William D. Rush. Rush was not the brightest crayon in the box, but he might have been the luckiest one. When Rush was 11 his parents moved him to California, during the journey Rush talked to many minors going to the area to find precious minerals, like gold and silver. He immediately had gold fever at the age of only 11, but his parents wanted nothing to do with the mining. So when William was 13 he ran away from home, dropped out of school, and joined a mining crew a few miles north of Tangaires, he worked the crew for nearly 5 years being almost a slave to the other miners. This wasn't to on much longer though as in 1880 the mine collapsed killing all but William, he escaped looking for help, but all he found after 3 days lost in the wilderness was a massive silver deposit. He immediately forgot about his friends in the mine and began digging, a month later Rushville was founded and William went on to be one of the wealthiest men in the early days of Tangairs. He squandered away the majority of his fortune opening new mines in the area and drinking in his later years, but Rushville is today known for its rich soils, both in minerals and agriculture. So here are some pictures from around the Rushville area just off of coastal highway 105. First up the original site of Williams first mine, the picture was taken in the early 1900s after it was converted to a strip mine. So here is the William Delanore strip mining facility. Click on the region pick for a full sized view.
  19. Ok so basically I think we need a guage to kind of see what people are expecting. This is my minimum expectation. Simply an image from google of a realtime city viewing software. This is in my opinion a decent level of complexity and if rendered in real time with shadows and lighting it could look amazing.
  20. ACE Airport Pack

Hey guys saw my name come up alot here, and well first i just want to say what a great job ace is doing. Secondly dont worry about compatibility, aces will out do my old pack in everyway.
  21. Simtropolis 1000

Wow guys this has grown 10x faster than I could have ever anticipated, and my time is eaten up mostly by work. I do want to stay involved but I have yet to really even sit down and read through the last few pages. I see tons of users expressing intered and my PM inbox has 14 new messages right now. Thanks to all of you that are PMing me with information and I really wish i had to time to contact everyone. I work full time and go to school full time, so at this moment my free time is being divided up between you guys and a girl (im sure she thinks she deserves priority, and she is probably right, but hey a man has to have fun too) Anyways lets try to transition this discussion to here http://dev.simcities.com/ it is growing rapidly over there, and while i havent had a chance to post over there myself I dont want anyone to get the impression that i am neglecting this forum or the one set up by the Blam team. So again head here guys http://dev.simcities.com/ BTW just discovered dat packer, thanks a ton jeronij, lol tons of work to be done, why oh why did i come back to simcity. Simcity seems to have became a black hole of free time for me.... If there were more time in the day i would be playing, organizing, reading, bating, learning paths, and mediating this new game concept we are all so excited about. However such cannot be the case. Oh one other kind of random question but anyone here at K-State??? Manhattan Kansas area? just thought it would be cool if there are other players in the area.
  22. Tangaire

MrCinatit thanks, I really appreciate the comments. The journals here all amaze me lately, It seems every time I see a new journal i find myself sifting through pages of breathtaking images. I just hope to create something half as good as the work jacky, ilikehotdogsalot, Darmok, beebs, MrCinatit, and many many others have created. Anyways here is another region shot, and then its off to work for me. I know not much changed, but this is the first region shot i have been happy with because the communities are starting to become seamless.
  23. Tangaire

The growth continues in Tangaire as the area enters the early parts of the 20th century and the region breaks 30,000 inhabitants. Farms are abundant here due to the above average rain fall and extremely rich soil. It is estimated that this is one of the few places in the world where the soil is healthy enough to have supported large groves of red woods. Due to the areas extensive forest harvesting, red woods are a rarity in this vast wilderness. The good news for farmers is that the rich soil was likely due to the heavy forest growth of the old giants. As agriculture and mining become larger industries here the deforestation appears to be on its way out thanks to California Governor Henry Gage in 1899. Gage was reportedly a rail road man and quite the corrupt politician, so news of him declaring Tangaire a minimal cut region was quite shocking. That was until news of Railroad Tycoon Collis Huntingtons decision to start a competing timber camp in the coastal regions just north of Tangaire in an effort to suffocate the Norther Continental Company. Turns out Gage was merely a puppet to early California Industry, but his corruption saved the lush forests that still fill the region. The last time Tangaire was considered as something in need of preserving was in 1871 when congress and then president Ulysses S Grant were debating the center piece for an American National Park system. Tangaire was one of three finalist in the decision but was ultimately turned down in favor of Yellow Stone National Park because of its completely lack of human development and its rich geothermal basins. Again corrupt politics might have saved the day here, becuase in march of 1872 a female painter by the name of Alexis Adams, a native to California, petitioned Congress to simply allow both areas to become national parks. In the end Alexis Adams was able to gather nearly 2000 signatures many of which were fairly distinguished, but as fate would have it the entire petition was ruled unlawful and shot down before it ever made it to the Congress. It is rumored that in court Alexis called the judge a sexist pig and was sentenced to 30 days in the county jail for unruley conduct. Today the town of Alexis sprawls its mighty suburban arms through the forests and foot hills just a few miles from the City Center in Tangaire. All these pictures are from the area of Alexis taken in 1923 Enjoy the pictures!
  24. Tangaire

Thanks guys, hopefully I can get alot more done tonight, i have the rest of the nigth off! The break waters are tons of fun to make, i just raise the land to beach level and cover with rocks, unfortunately the game doesnt quite have wave effects like that but hey Photoshop is as much fun as Simcity so i just combine passions.
  25. Simtropolis 1000

Off to bed again for me guys. I want to hear back from scipio and others and get more opinions, so please everyone stay on topic with my last post, and rodent you seem to be doing great keeping up with this all and keeping an open mind so if you want i would love to delegate the position of secretary to you. (basically for now if you want just kind of help reiterate what others are saying and try to play mediator). We need to join under one goal, that goal being to create a game that simcity fans can enjoy for its realistic city simulation and entertaining, involved game play. Sound good guys? Can we come to an agreement on getting organized? So for now lets just set our wishlists for the game aside and start proposing ideas as to how to organize. So far I have heard multiple teams, a council, a leader (apparently me for now?, but trust me i am in no way a dictator), extra forums, and no messenger. All sound ok to me so lets try and start on these small steps. Ill be back around 5 central time tomorrow so hopefully we will have some of the ground work laid when i get off.
