  2. Macs - RH Update

Date: 6/25/2005 3:05:44 PM Author: Tropod Thanks for the replies. Each bit of extra info helps! The following picture, is just one of the things that Maxis fixed in the RH Update1 for PC versions, but it seems Mac RH versions don't have this? Could I possibly get a few valid clarifications on this? (this is without any mods ~ PC RH + Update1) quote> Here's visual confirmation:
  3. Macs - RH Update

Thanks for taking an interest in Macs Tropod, always appreciated... To follow up on what Zelgadis, the plugin folders break down like this: Windows to Mac translations: C:\Program File\Maxis\SimCity4\Plugins = Applications\SimCity4\SimCityData\Plugins C:\MyDocuments\Maxis\SimCity4\Plugins = Documents\SimCity4\Plugins As Z said, they seem to work identically, personally I put BATs/Lots in the Docs plugin and mods in the Apps plugin. I have had a few glitches that were cleared up by keeping them well organized (i.e., ensuring that Textures and Props load first by putting them in a folder called 1TexturesProps, the 1 putting the folder at the front of the line, so to speak). As far as confirming which bugs Aspyr fixed, it really is difficult to tell. Aspyr's support is minimal, to be kind, they port it and they are done with it. Several of us have been told they are doing no further work on RH. But to give you an example of their work, they did not include the infamous (to the Mac community) bldgprop.dat files in RH, nor were they offered at the Aspyr site, which is pretty unbelievable considering how important they are to custom content, so when they say they fixed the PC bugs, who knows.... And of course, there won't be an official fix for nightlighting for custom BATs/Lots, though Goaskin has figured out a workaround, though not yet to the point where it can be fixed at the game level (he has figured out how to change settings for individual lots, if I understand what he's posted). Regarding .dat files, they too seem to work the same, once things are reduced to the SC4 file formats, they seem to work fine, with the occasional exception (can't think of any off the top of my head). I've done quite a bit of testing of BSC's counter mod files (the various essentials files that track things for rewards and count certain types of buildings for custom query windows) and with the exception of Gascooker's beer naming reward, these have worked on my Mac. If there are specific things you would like us to check/test for, let us know, it may be the only way to get the specific info you want/need. If you're willing to put in a little extra work, the Mac community will definitely appreciate it, and you don't have to make any promises.... Hope this info helps...

  7. Missing graphics on parks

It sounds like you have your graphics settings on low, if you are talking about Maxis created parks, lots, etc... If you are talking about custom content, perhaps you are missing props and or textures...

There are 6 Base/Overlay textures that are listed (with links) in all of SG's Read Me files, you should download these, as they are used in many BSC BATs/Lots. If you don't see parking lots, after you get those, let me know...

Date: 5/30/2005 6:09:43 PM Author: uncrazycooper13 Hey Kbooms I have a couple questions. 1. Do you think you could put the CSX BAT Props vol. 4 on the bsc mac archive it is needed for the farms. Also I know this is probably pretty difficult but  could you please make a list of all the downloads on the BSC mac archive needed for the BSC farms (not including textures and dependencies) I'm worried I may have missed some yesterday when I downloaded my farm stuff. -uncrazycooper 1. CSX BAT Props Vol. 4 can still be DL'd from the STEX, it doesn't have an installer (anything pre-October 2004 should still be in Zip form at the STEX, unless it's has been updated, i.e SG's and DEDWD's recent upgrades...) 2. As to your second question, I'm not sure I understand it, if you don't want a list of textures and dependencies (all of which are included in the FEP ReadMeJpgs.zip download), I'm not sure what you are looking for. Are you trying to be sure you have everything you need for a certain reward chain? Something else? Maybe your question is just going over my head because I'm a bit hungover...'); height=15 alt=Insert smilie src=/emoticons/14.gif width=15 border=0> Let me know, we'll figure it out...
  12. loading new maps from downloads...

Yes, you need to make a bitmap file for it. It's not too difficult, it can be done in AppleWorks. There are instructions in the forums, not neceesarily the Mac forum, but it's the same on both PC and Mac. Search for custom bmp or terms along those lines and you'll find the info you need.

I am going to be making some changes to the BSC Mac Archive today (Sunday, noon Pacific (Los Angeles) time). If you find that a file won't download, no need to tell me now, everything will (should) be working properly soon. I'll repost when I am done with my maintainence.

Date: 5/20/2005 3:15:55 AM Author: dutch_cove Hi, I'm new and I had SC4 for PC, but now have a mac. I've been reading around and couldn't find a clear answer to some of my questions (sorry if this sounds really stupid). But I can only download buildings from this mac BAT archive? Or is it somehow possible to download from the official STEX? And I can download any regional map? My computer only has 256 ram so should I bother with RH? Or upgrade before even playing SC4?quote> First, welcome to Simtropolis. Questions aren't stupid, especially if you've looked around a bit trying to figure them out yourself. If you only have SC (no RH), most custom content won't work, so I would suggest getting RH. If you get RH, definitely get more RAM. I'm playing near the minimum reqs, and it can be a bit annoying at times. With RH 99.9% of BATs/Lots will work. For some reason, .1% doesn't, don't know why, don't know which ones, occasionally someone will post about a problem with a certain BAT/Lot, but it's rare. You can download from the STEX, but many of the BSC team members, as well as Pegasus, who keeps an archive of Zips at his own site, use an installer program that only works on PCs, so I post Zip files of them at the BSC Mac Archive, that's the only reason for it, we couldn't find an installer set up that would work on both platforms. Most everything else at the STEX is in Zip format, and can be downloaded by Macs no problem. Maps work the same on Mac and PC. I think that's everything, let me know if I missed anything (but look around first ;-)

  19. loading new maps from downloads...

Date: 5/17/2005 11:29:10 PM Author: bgn Is 'the one buried in the applications folder' in the folder entitled 'Sim City 4 Data'? Because that's the only region folder I found; there's nothing Sim City-related in my documents folder. quote> Yes, the folder path should be Applications/Sim City/Sim City 4 Data/Regions... but you don't want to put new maps in there. There should also be a Regions folder at Documents/Sim City 4/Regions... this is where you should put new maps. If you don't have this folder path, you may want to reinstall, that is the default position for that folder... Once you find/reinstall the Doc/Regions fodler, the map installation instructions should work just fine on a Mac (though I think the combo is control-apple-R)...

Sorry about your Canaries, mate. It seems that lately, the best chance to stay up is to bounce right back up with that year of Premiereship experience under your belt. Good luck next year. Hope you find some time to work on your CJ, but it's still one of the best...
