Italian government wants to fingerprint every Roma

If you want to reduce or eliminate crime, you must eliminate the causes of crime.quote> that is easier said than done since nobody knows the actual CAUSE of crime, look at Glasgow look and at "the sudden apperence of stabbings" in the UK by the way it doesn't matter what you do these people value nothing and nothing is going to stop it, this happened 50 years ago in Glasgow and it will happen in London and it will be WORSE -
the BBC makes it's left wing propaganda stance by not reporting certain things i hate the media

in arguement of state supplied public education, in the Scottish "golden age" of education (the 50s) kids sat an exam at 11 known as the 11plus if you scored over 60% you passed and could go to a regular secondary school if you scored over 75% you could go to a regular or a grammar school this was a way of getting working class kids a lift up since their parents would not be able to afford schooling ever. If you went to a grammar school you could easily get a clerical job assuming primary school is at the same level in both modern and old fashioned times old S1 would cover S1&2 in modern times in terms of the amount in the cirriculum old S2 would be current S3 old S3 would be current S4 and you sat your ordinary grades (this was a pass or fail exam and not everybody sat it) S5 would easily be enough to leave with after sitting your higher exams and get into university the state education in Britain allowed people social mobility both upwards and downwards in a time when there was no money In arguement of capitalist (private fee paying) education in India there is a big number of private schools who have kids from all backgrounds (due to the reservation policy which requires a percentage to be from lower caste backgrounds) the poor families will not aeat and bend over backwards to try and meet the subsidised fees for the school because they know their child is getting a good education. even though there may be free state education .Basically the arguement for private education is like "if a man with a cart offers you free food there HAS to be something wrong with it. you can make your mind up about that

OK then let's put it this way, BEFORE unemployment benefits, if your firm went bust due to "competition " (which created a more monopolised market probably) then you were royally screwed. if you lived on the breadline (a lot more did then) if work was short you were pretty much dead if you couldn't find (i.e. hunt) your own food. on the healthcare side, before the NHS in Britain dentists were a luxury (hence the tooth extraction consisted of a door a bad tooth and a peice of string) if you broke your leg you would be put out of work and your family and yourself would die of starvation (unless you had managed to find food) now as far as i know, factories and general employers want a workforce with a low turnover rate to save on training costs and more experienced worker, but they couldn't have it because they kept DYING. in short if you were working class in Britain before the NHS you were screwed if you got hurt/ill unless you found a charity/volentary/council hospitall which still required you to pay but less because you had NO healthcare

Bus stops - on opposite sides of the road?
saltandsauce replied to Starcraftmazter's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
no you don't need to, the bus will go around the other side of the bus stop til (i'm jokin) but seriously if you add bus stops on bothe sides it's purley asthetic -
There I agree with you. If your expenses surpass income, then assets go down. However, most Americans charge up a lot of debt and they have no means to pay for it. Having a debt and credit card is good, as long as you can pay the monthly payment. It is a way to afford things you could not buy in one lump sum. Example -- a $20,000 car. Very few could buy it all at once, so the payment is spread out monthly over a period of 3-8 years. That is the basic principal in the 1920's "installment plan" for vehicles and other consumer goods.quote> unfortunatley in this situation there are two things that seem to be swapped around and that is luxuries and neccessities. luxuries are $20,000 cars. if you couldn't afford it you would either save the money that would go on the credit card bill until you had enough money where you would save on the interest OR go for a cheaper car. The problem is that value for money is a lot harder to find. poor people oringinally had to either have old, good quality furniture or newer bad, quality furniture (you couldn't buy good quality furniture often) you could not have both. In other words, before easy credit, people HAD to live within their means oh and the UK does have a classed society it is just as rigid as the 60s it's almost on par with the Indian caste system. so if you are born poor you will die poor and stay poor in between and if you are born rich you will either stay rich or lose your money but you will retain your upper classness

socialism is based on the principals that the lowest earning people don't get crapped on, on every front as for healthcare in socialised medicine, EVERYONE gets the state service but everyone has to pay for it wether you want to or not, the way around this is because the richer can afford private healthcare which has also beeen the case but the rich can afford both public and private healthcare (because they are rich) democracies function in the same way socialist countries function (government wise) in the whole we vote you're in power for the next X years and we are only stuck with you for that amount of time. Communism does work.. on a VERY small scale on par with the hippie COMMUNES which maybe consist of about 120 people and these all join in willingly. Communist government does not work though there are ways to have both economic competitiveness and socialsim and that is to limit the length of time unemployment benefit can be claimed. here you can claim as long as you want (having the odd job for a week or two) in places like Germany your money is stopped after threee years because anyone unemployed who wants to work will take ANYTHING none of you really know what freedom is. freedom means being able to talk about anything and not be ostricised/incarcerated.

you should not say anything about anyone unless you have met them it is possible that they do or do not cause a lot of crime. nobody should make assumptions on either side of these people -

no it means that 1 of two things happen if oil becomes incredibly expensive 1, a MASSIVE drop in the standard of living, mass abandonment of the suburbs, trading plummets and we live in the dark at night and starvation takes some people or 2, we pour tonnes of money into "renewables" and cover the world with wind turbines and solar panels ( the average wind turbine can barely power an electric kettle the same with solar) and convert all our farmland for biofuel production and we all starve to death in one year

well why do we HAVE to buy some crappy child seat where you have to wrestle them into the seats because the child is a child, in not so fab Britain we HAVE to buy a stupid child seat by law even though it "may" i quote "may" save a handful of lives but to force everyone to buy a car seat for each child under a certain height no
-
these laws are in place for the protection of poedestrians the no right ( or left in my case) is so nutters can't turn right when pedestrians are crossing we usually have to wait half an hour to cross we aren't being ran over because you wanted to turn right

The School Rights and Discrimination Thread
saltandsauce replied to Patricius Maximus's topic in Current Events
our school never seems to clean the toilets so nobody would WANT to get out of class to go to the toilet (there are 5 stalls 3 of them lock of those 3, 1 has been flushed in the last millenia) so you have to hold tho door shut with you hands (the door is 3 feet from the toilet) and if neds come in and start punching the doors fat chance it'll stay closed with your hand on it -

teachers in my school give detentions whenever maintainance in the classrooom needs done (clean windows, clean boards, sharpen pencils etc.) or get given lines (useless) however in some cases teachers get students to hold out a medicine ball (they are REALLY heavy) with arms outstretched at your front for five-ten solid minutes which can be excrutiating (this is legal, no physical contact between the teacher and pupil) so detentions are useful from the schools view. School has never been or intended to be pleasant in fact the opposite. it was supposed to be stern and austere, teachers who try to be friends with the pupils are like parents who want to be their kids best friends and their kids are badly screwed up! they would prefer a parent to be a parent not a friend that is what friends are for. he less choice the pupils are given the easier it is to learn and your years wasted in school will eventually count for something. -
fat chance they could do that to me i hate everyone at school besides i have to use public transport anyway and it will probably stay that way

EU Pacts raising the 48 hour work week limit to 60 or 65 hours
saltandsauce replied to fukuda's topic in Current Events
actually it would be more beneficial if employers payed employees on peicework this of course only works if you are in a manufacturing job. it ensures high producticity and working them to death which is less money for more production there would be a fixed rate per whatever such as 4/2 per dram of coal (a dram is 1 train wagon of coal not the whisky dram) 3/6 per 1000 lines of cotton 4/2 per 10 bars of steel stuff like that of course that is in old money and of course in Britain there aren't many manufacturing jobs anyway but just think your grandparents didn't have a state pension at all or unemployment benefits or national insurance at all -
oh well.... look on the bright side your junk mail will be flammable now and the post office wont have to close
