  1. How is the person above you going to die?

Yoded will be killed by none other than Darth Sidious.
  2. Georgia and Russia basically at war

    Breaking news from CNN.com:
  3. Georgia and Russia basically at war

Well, it's war. I think that Georgia, with little support as it is now, will fall to Russia. I must say that the way they did it was smart. While Putin goes to the Olympics and the rest of the World is watching it, Medvedev and his tanks roll over Georgia. What I think is strange about this is the Russians are marching south through Georgia. If they can conquer Armenia and go through Iran and Iraq, then they have a shot of taking over the World's oil supply. Just a thought, but the timing is right, and do not underestimate the intelligence of Medvedev and Putin. Lastly, the whole war reminds me of the German blitzkrieg tactics. And we are in a situation like we were in World War I, with major powers tied up in alliances and a war waiting to happen when another country acts up.
  4. The Greater Terran Region

I'd remove the red power plant in the right and replace it with something else, because it distracts from the theme of it. And I might make the text stand out more and be less blended. Basically it looks good.
  5. Virgin Shores

Supercity124: Those lines are not owned by the DWP. They are owned by the City of Virgin Shores, which means all the departments. Also, I refer to a quote from the mayor : I don't know about permanent... They'll be there for a little while, but there's really no point in leaving them when there's development.quote> All development proposals are subject to the Planning Department and the Mayor's approval. Patricius Maximus, Head of the Department of Transportation
  6. Que Val

He stated that this one was "not to his liking" in the new thread. spore415: Please link the "here" part of your post. And good luck with your reincarnation (whatever the reason for it).
  7. A NEW ISSUE OF THE CHRONICLES REPLIES: underwearman2007: Thanks. un1: Glad you like the freeway upgrade. cavscrew1: It certainly looks it. Interchange: The Highway Restyling Mod. Mayor Abe: Please be more specific. psander5: Thanks. I'm glad you like the seawall development. Goldfish4209: Thank you. deathtopumpkins: Thanks. We do need that. Archean: Correct. This is the first beta version. It does look "at home" in Central Franklin. sedimenjerry: Glad you have your pylons back. Night shots will be included as part of a huge 50th Update celebration . crazyarchitect: Thank you. TimeMaster: It is imported from other regions via underground power lines. Simtastico: Thanks for your feedback. dfnva: Thanks. It does look more realistic. Twenty20: Thank you. bluemoose: Frontage roads are planned in the near future. I have used those ramps. They are featured extensively in the Oakland tour of the Patrician Showcase, way back on page 1. jmoats3: Thanks. binobi: Franklin is awaiting another... Here is today's issue of the Franklin Chronicles. Today happens to be 2008-08-08, which is the opening day of the Beijing Olympics, and a lucky day in China. The next update, the 50th, will be a big one, and will come in the next few days. Thanks for your support in getting this far in Franklin's development. Please post your comments, suggestions, and questions.
  8. Troops stage coup in Mauritania

Not much point grumbling about it, because probably in a few years a new regime will take it's place. All that I can say is I hope that this will turn out better for the Mauritanians. If not, they'll just have another coup.
  9. The LHC going online

Exciting. I can't wait for them to report their findings.
  10. The Source- Custom Lotting at its Finest

From what I can see it looks very good. I haven't read Beville (unfortunately ), but I've seen your work in other places. It appears that this is a small step up. I'll be looking forward to more. - Patricius Maximus
  11. Virgin Shores

All is proceeding smoothly with my proposals. We'll just have to see what the Planning Department has to say.
  12. The LHC going online

Hawking Radiation -- a quantum condition in which virtual particles are created near its event horizon. One of the particles falls into the black hole and the other escapes. The one that falls in has negative energy, thus causing the black hole to lose mass. That's how I understand it. Might not be exactly correct, since I'm not a quantum physicist. 8-8-08? I doubt if anything paranormal is going to happen because of that, but it is interesting. The Olympics start on August 8th also.
  13. Virgin Shores

Good idea, Gunnster. Just move Area 2 north 5 tiles away from the industrial area to make it comply with 1.a. We still have to see what the Planning Department thinks.
  14. Virgin Shores

Archean: It's always to my knowledge been the City of Virgin Shores. I put that on my sig . In light of the overview shot and the avaliable areas, I submit this proposal to the Planning Department: For ease of planning, the three areas are numbered. I think that Area 2 may be in violation of the zoning codes. But, if it is, disregard it. Patricius Maximus, Head of the Department of Transportation
  15. The LHC going online

Nuclear Physicists unite! Big day for that field. About the black hole theory, it would evaporate due to Hawking radiation before it could do much damage. Still, it would make an interesting study. I'll be following this bit of news closely.
  16. UFO SIGHTING!!! (Aug 2nd, 08)

It could be a street light. Ever seen one where the bulb is starting to near it's death? Yeah. Not saying you're wrong but there are dozens of things it could be.quote> Think: If his video was a hoax, wouldn't he be a bit more clever than that? why so serious? \I don't believe in ufo and this is obviously fake in many ways.quote> Be more specific. Do you not believe that there are flying objects that can't be identified? Or do you not believe in alien visitation/observation? I think you're only referring to yourself, mate. On the "No one really cares/wants to hear" part.quote> TV-VCR: I would advise you to keep it civil and not personal. I don't know what I believe when it comes to this topic. But I think that I want to believe it. Sure the video isn't the greatest quality, but it is a UFO, an unidentified flying object. Not necessarily an alien space craft. So you can't blame kellydale2003 for saying that it is a UFO, because it is, its just not exactly what every one thinks when it comes to the term "UFO".quote> Well put. My opinions on alien visitation: Just in our own galaxy, there are 200 billion stars. If there are only 10 planets to each star, that is 2 trillion planets, and probably more. There are billions and billions of galaxies like our own in the visible Universe. I find it impossible to think that none of that is populated with sapient life. I also do not believe in the "speed of light" argument, which says that they can't get anywhere because they can't go faster than light. Even we Humans, with our rather limited knowledge, are thinking of ways to circumvent that limit, and travel to the stars. A species that is more advanced than us would have mastered these techniques, or have completely new theories in physics that we know nothing about. Provided that at least a few species have developed these techniques, they would want to study the galaxy and universe around them. Some may want to conquer it, but that's another story. Sure, they may have seen many planets. Sure, they may have encountered other life forms, but I think that they would still want to come to Earth. It is my opinion that Homo Sapiens is an interesting species for aliens to study. Earth also has unique lifeforms and evolutionary processes, not to mention some unusual environments, such as hydrothermal vents. They would also, in my opinion, want to make a study of our induced global warming process, which would be interesting to an alien climatologist. They may also want to make first contact with us and ask us to join some alliance or something similar. There are plenty of potential reasons. I think that only a small portion of the UFO's sighted are actually alien spaceships. A lot of them are probably secret military projects. Remember the B-2 and F-117 Stealth aircraft? I think it unlikely that theories about aliens being harbored at Area 51 are correct. They may have visited there, but I doubt that they're working on some kind of strange project. I've heard from some sources that ever since 1947, Gray-type aliens have been working on secret projects with government assistance. Well, it must be extremely complicated, since they've been working on it for over 60 years. However, I cannot deny the possibility. These are my opinions on alien visitation. - Patricius Maximus
  17. Virgin Shores

I'm not dissapointed at all. I am still looking forward to it.
  18. The Greater Terran Region

I'd like to take a ride in your time machine myself . Excellent historical tour. Seems so long ago...
  19. CENTRAL FRANKLIN FREEWAY UPGRADE - PHASE I REPLIES: un1: 1) I've always considered the pictures to have an 800 width to avoid text stretching. The mods don't seem to mind pictures going over 600 on height. 2) Thanks. 3) Really? That is picky. deathtopumpkins: 1) No frontage roads now, but slated for the future. 2) No, all custom . 3) Ground level for now, but elevated when the time comes. sedimenjrry: Thanks for voting and thanks for your reccomendation. nihonkaranws: I prefer a mixture of custom and Maxis, and I figure now I've got it about right. Still I do download something if it catches my eye. Goldfish4209: Thanks for voting andyour suggestions. Archean: 1) Thanks for your suggestion. Yes, I like the retaining walls myself. But I decided to subject it to a vote. 2) Technically, Franklin County is a Metro Area. 3) I don't let it become congested to start with. My transit motto is: "Hit congestion before it hits you." sedimenjerry: 1) Thanks. 2) Thanks for showing that interchange. Hampi: Thank you. I hope so as well. deathtopumpkins: The only thing that causes this is the HSRP. Sedimenjerry, re-drag the monorail tool and you'll get pylons . bluemoose: Thank you. Results are in. The highway upgrade was voted in, and the retaining walls were a tie. The retaining walls will stay, as the demolition proposal did not get a plurality of votes. The highway upgrade through Central Franklin starts at the northern terminus of the Franklin Creek bridge: Northward, the parclo interchange has been remade to accomodate the new design: The next interchange north is a classic diamond: Notice that the overpasses allow room for frontage roads in the future. When skyscrapers in Central Franklin become common, the highway will be elevated to allow for more space. Here is an overview: Feel free to post any comments, suggestions, or questions.
  20. Virgin Shores

Both myself and the DOT are looking forward to tonight.
  21. Roads, Bridges & Tunnels Construction Part I & II

we are planning to integrate bridge construction in a "Project Mode" where you'll be able to select multiple options after drawing your bridge on the landscape including style. This "Project Mode" will also allow you to validate or cancel your plan before actually spending your city cash.quote> This is what I want! *faints*
  22. UFO SIGHTING!!! (Aug 2nd, 08)

Don't dismiss it as a hoax too soon. I try to keep an open mind about these things, and try to identify them. If I can't, then it's an Unidentified Flying Object. A UFO, by it's very definition, can be from Earth or from space. In fact, it can be any flying object not identifiable. From my observations, it is not a flashlight. Flashlights do not make variations in color emissions from white to yellow-orange in regular intervals. It does not appear to be the Moon to me. I have filmed the moon with camcorders, and it didn't look like that. So, the label of UFO fits it. It also appears to be an orb-in-the-sky type of UFO. Remember, UFO does not mean alien spaceship. It means Unidentified Flying Object .
  23. The Patrician Showcase

CITY ROUTE 10 REPLIES: un1: Thanks. deathtopumpkins: 1) Technically an expressway and a freeway, but yes. That's one of only 3 rampless crossings. 2) It will. dfnva: Thanks. Glad you like the bridge. Something that simple prevents a nightmare from developing. haljackey: Thank you. I have decided to show you City Route 10, which has been extended to Lutland as Patian County's first major toll road. Here's a map: Click for FULL resolution and best clarity. After it's western terminus with SR-25, CR-10 continues eastbound, and we encounter it's first toll, and stop to pay 25 cents: And now we proceed to a large intersection with a semi-directional ramp. After this, a toll booth collects more money: Another shot of that intersection is going to go on the SC4D Picture Contest. The last intersection on the road is here, along with another toll booth: The next junction is a Parclo B-20 under my system. The toll booths are where the ramps converge, thus saving time and money in construction: This type of Parclo interchange is common along CR-10. Then we enter the East Dixon area, and the next junction is another B20: Furthur along, we pass by a raised road intersection: And then we go through the densest part of East Dixon: And another B-20 parclo. From here on it is one straight trek to Lutland: That's all for this update. Please post comments and/or suggestions.
  24. TWO NEW ISSUES TO VOTE ON REPLIES: deathtopumpkins: 1) I will use that station. 2) There were no flyovers because of the unusual sloping. However, in flatter areas there may be... un1: 1) Well, that's the goal of a corporation. To make a profit. 2) Not the curves, but the embankments. Although it's picky with the rail, I like the slope mod I have. haljackey: Thank you. It was a big job. bluemoose: Thanks. simcityplyr100: Thanks. It's not very complex. Just put in a rail intersection, and some short lines to have access complete. sedimenjerry: Really? How interesting. Schulmanator: Want an oil deal? Goldfish4209: Thanks. Nothing can be done about the "huge gash". I have decided to subject the retaining wall issue to a vote. Polls will close on August 6 at 18:00 UTC. Also, I believe that the time has come for the Central Franklin highway upgrade. This will be put to a vote as well. I-85 will be upgraded to a Maxis Highway with the Highway Re-Styling Mod with asphalt textures. Here is a schematic of the proposed upgrade: Click for FULL resolution. Please vote in the new poll and please give comments, suggestions, and questions.
