City Update 11: (Ever Expanding Town) Crystal Junction has continued to increase in both size and town spread. In recent years the rate of town growth has peaked to almost a thousand new residents each year. The town has been expanding primarily in the north and west. Most of the land up until the Outer Belt has been zonning, extensive avenue systems as well as bus systems have been constructed. A northern rail system with the Crystal Line opening a whole new series of stations on the north side of town has been constructed. Overall the town has reached a population of 50,000. Growth in the size of the towns industrial and commercial sectors is almost as large with almost 19,000 commercial jobs and 12,000 industrial jobs being provided to the town, not to mention nearly 2,000 civic service jobs in addition to that. The town at its current rate of growth is expected to reach 75,000 within fifteen years. Regional Satelitte View of Crystal Junction. Regional Transportation Map of Crystal Junction. Its been a while since I've seen any comments, hope to see some soon.

I'll be posting another update sometime later on today. I have a general question for people as well. I know I've already posted this on the bugs fourm, but figured I'd also post it here. Doesnt anyone know how to reset the date of a city back to 01/01/00. I am wondering this because I want to see if the date being reset will eliminate a transportation commute bug.

I cant remember which city journals I got it from. I just remember some being used on older city journals I was looking through several days ago.

The highway signs and city maps arent my idea, i got the ideas from other journal posters. The two ideas I think would make most city journals seem more realistic. Feel free to go ahead and use them.

Here are a couple more freeways signs I worked on this afternoon. They are two more from downtown. Here is Freeway 11 heading northing right before the James Thomas Bridge. Here is Freeway 48/11 heading east right before downtown. https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files/Freeway%2048%20and%2011%20East%20Before%20Market%20St.jpg border=0> I'll be posting a new newspaper update later on today.

You can get autocad lt, which does the same thing from most comp stores, but it costs a bit of money, or you could try using kazza. I'll also be posting some more downtown signs from off of Freeway 48 11 and the combo of the two tomorrow evening probably. Even tho tomorrow is a busy day for me.

Here are a few graphics I made for the city. After seeing multiple people put maps and highway signs so I decided to give a try at them myself. I do most all my designing in AutoCAD Map 5. Here is an updated map showing all the Freeways and Regional Routes. Here is my first try at a Freeway Sign. Its for Freeway 48/11 heading East right after First Rd before Freeway 11 splits off South. I'll be trying to post some more graphics updates like these in the future.

Thanks for the comment. I am trying with this town to show almost every aspect of its growth as it develops from a small desert town to a massive city. My first city journal was the final product first and the other two didnt really do much beyond several posts about population updates. This one i wanted to be much more interactive and more creative. Not to mention I am naming every aspect of the town.

City Update 10: Crystal Junction has been growing at a steady pace in late years. The town has already breached the 40,000 mark. Growth has been concentrated to the northeast and west. These areas have had massive housing and commerical/ industrial growth in them. Industrial growth has started to pick up lately from the earily leveling off. There are near 10,600 industrial jobs being provided to the town and a massive 16,000 commerical jobs being offered. The downtown area continues to densify and expand westward as commercial demand increases. Locally there are city plans calling for an extended avenue project to occur in the north and east areas of town, but that will be discusses in greater detail in he chronicles. Regional Overview. Regional Trans Overview, showing the outer belt, and rail growth in the northeast. Hope to see some more comments, thanks to all that have already commented.

All of the city updates will be done in color. The newspaper ones however are in black in white, unless it is something like a graph view which doesnt show up well in black and white. I try and post city updates every other day or so, or after something signifficant occurrs such as a rapid jump in population. The black and white photos are such because a lot of older newspapers, and small town papers generally have photos done without color. Once the city starts getting a massive population, like say above half a million or so, I might start doing the newspapers with some color.

Update 9: Large Town Expansion Crystal Junction has expanded considerably in recent yeats, both in residential population and in commercial growth. The town has reached a population of roughly 35,000 with two distinct downtown districts within its city limits. The oldest and origional downtown is located at the junction of Freeways 48 and 11, and the newer downtown is located along W. Seventh St and Freeway 48/11 intersection. The two downtowns are seperated only by the erroded Flat Spire. The town itself has generated roughly 14,300 commercial jobs. Industrial growth however has peaked off arround 8,300 jobs. Industrial growth is at a point where no additional jobs are being created, but dirty and manufacturing industry is slowing being converted into high tech industry. The annexxed land to the west is where the new growth is occuring in both residential and commercial areas. The town is expected to hit 40,000 within 10 years. Regional Overview of Crystal Junction. Regional Transportation Overiew of Crystal Junction. As you can see from the transportation view, the town is constructing an extensive system of avenues, primarily in the downtown areas, but outer areas are starting to see avenue projects cropping up. As always I'd appreciate any comments, positive or negative.

Right now there isnt an airport to Sandy Ridge, the only way to get there is to take the highway or route 511 from Crystal Junction. As Sandy Ridge grows it might have an airport arround 4,000 or so residents.
  25. River Basin: The region where anything could happen

I'll admit I try and look for realism in cities, but i like your city. The way it's developing with the islands of the river delta specifcally. I also like the terraforming. Keep up the work. I might as well start handing out bunnies, here is a few. https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/24.gif>https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/24.gif>https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/24.gif>
