  1. NAM: Requests

If there were tutorials on what a RUL is, how it works, and what it consists of, I'd gladly join the cause. I've tried working with the BAT but I seem to find a lot of the BAT tutorials lacking... I have a project that is dead-ended due to the fact that I have to sit on my hands until Tarkus can address the things I brought up with him.
  2. Many Canadians fear third world war looms

Originally posted by: robertg0902 we are already in ww3, it's a war between the west and Islamic extremist, as for Canada joining the US that has happened already remember NAFTA.quote> Where's my free health care? On a serious note, and more on-topic with the original article, I think Canadians reflect the thoughts of many Americans who feel that their government has been hijacked by a bunch of war hawks with no accountability and the power to invade a country on the basis of lies and fear-mongering. (The U.S. was the only country to produce false information to its own people and the world as evidence to call for the sanction of war in Iraq. Whether you call it bad intelligence, ignorant buffoonery, or just plain lying, it is a moot point.) Will the U.S. eventually annex the Great White North? Probably not. Well, at least I hope so. Where else will I go if there's a draft reinstatement? Speaking from someone who lives 25 miles from the Canadian border here in Detroit, we share a healthy and amicable relationship with our extremely polite and politically neutral neighbors. (That's not to say that Canadians aren't willing to put up a fight when the world produces a united front: Canadian troops served proudly in World War II.) As for groups in Canada believing that the U.S. will eventually "control" Canada via "Washington and corporate interests," this merely reflects a growing opinion that U.S. foreign policy is getting out of control. Will WWIII happen in our lifetime? I certainly hope not, as there are only seven or so countries with substantial troop and infrastructure to produce the scale of destruction seen in those previous conflicts. The world will have to see a dictator the likes of which we haven't seen since Hitler.
  3. Summary of Our Reactions

  4. Summary of Our Reactions

Pros: - True third dimension graphics engine - Sky/weather - Dynamic shading and atmosphere depending on locale Cons: - Some buildings are completely unrealistic - Some game concepts are completely unrealistic - Limitations on size of cities - Focus on individual Sims and their needs; too much like other games - No zoning/RCI - "Social energies" defining the way a city looks and functions - Limited network options (other than subways and buses, which I have yet to see.) - The possibility that this game could end the aims of previous iterations of SimCity Unknowns: - Can we mod the game to eliminate these "social energies" altogether? - Can we terraform our own cities based on real life locations? - Can we add or modify our own networks? - Will there be a true sequel to SC4, more along the lines of what we have been expecting?
  5. 10,000,000 vs. 10,000

Thank you JanYpe, as this is the second time this has happened. It's very simple: read the original post, or a subsequent post that is relative to the topic, and respond accordingly. Make sure your opinions are ON-TOPIC. Thanks!
  6. Isn't it time we packaged all the most popular downloads into several large zip files, complete with dependencies? Like a Hall of Fame pack or Best of the Best pack, or something along those lines. You just contact all the teams, ask them to make their best content available, customize an installer, zip it up, and go! Inside the installer you can pick and choose which downloads you want to install (complete with pictures of the lots) and the installer automatically installs the correct dependencies and documentation. Is this an old idea? Or will it kill sales of the STEX dvd's?
  7. Hey y'all, I figured someone on here might be able to answer my question. I've noticed that darmok and several other people exhibit wonderful examples of what I'm talking about: As you can see, the network rolls right up onto the parking lot. Now, there is a way to "fake" this, but I'm not sure if that is what is being done here. Here is the link for the "fake transit enable" tutorial, but is there another way? Can you actually make it so you can drag the transit network ONTO the lot? If someone could show me how, that would be fantastic!!!!!! schm0
  8. So you have to click on the radio button icon and drag that onto the tiled lot? No wonder it wasn't working! I'll try that tonight. Thanks, nerdly.

  10. Train question

Do you have any train mods installed? Have you tried looking at the screen with the game unpaused? (I've actually stared at the screen waiting to take a picture of a train before and it never came because I had the game paused. )
  11. Industry zones

I personally find it's a bit unrealistic if you eliminate Dirty Industry altogether... Every major city has it's dirty, gritty smokestack-filled areas that provide essential local production needs (gas, cement, chemicals) to any metropolitan areas.
  12. You can already make two one-way roads from an avenue. You can already make highways go underground. You can terraform an entire region. Pathfinding has been worked on.
  13. 10,000,000 vs. 10,000

Originally posted by: DavidBeebe schm0, thanks for continuing to persue articles and for drumming up conversation on different aspects of the game.quote> You're welcome. Wow, my thread was enough to garner attention from Mr. Beebe. That's saying something. Well, it's time for me to add my own $.02. I like the idea of being able to track your Sims, but it seems like it might come with it's own limitations. Will my computer be bogged down when my population gets high? Will the graphics slow down when they're all bustling about a busy section of town? I believe this is the reason why they have been abstracted for much of SC's history. I have my own issues with other areas of gameplay in this game, but as far as focusing on an entire city of 1,000 or more people seems a little... small. I think there are people out there who would like that feature, but it's not for me. I know SC:S is a game that focuses on a cities individual personality, but I want to create huge regions with interacting cities. TM has said that they understand the philosophical differences the SC4 fan will have with this game, but it's interesting to note how I actually like part of this idea. I always thought it would be cool to expand the MySims feature in SC4. The part I don't like is the idea of having to keep track of every single Sim's wants and desires. I can't remember which SC it was, but you used to be able to conduct opinion polls. Something like that could have been expanded, instead of making each individual Sim a focus of the game.

  16. Sony slashes Playstation 3 price

The PS3 is a powerful piece of hardware. It's practically a DVD, DVR, PS3, Photo-viewer, MP3 player, Blu-Ray player and Internet browser all rolled into one. It's worth the price... Unfortunately, it's also out of reach for most people.
  17. 10,000,000 vs. 10,000

Ok, so what do you think about the topic? Re-read the original post, please.
  18. Industry zones

Trees will fence in your pollution, but they can't do everything. You still have water pollution to deal with. I recommend varying your Industrial styles, limiting your dirty industrials to areas where the water is far away. Also, keep your water pipes away to eliminate the possibility of contamination. You can have dirty industrial in your cities, but you can't eliminate the pollution altogether without cheating.
  19. It doesn't matter what anyone's opinion on the matter is. The post, joke or not, is offensive. Again, can we get a mod to delete this thread already?
  20. PLOP MOD FINAL PROBLEM

You can go buy SC:S when it comes out. You can plop down all you want.
  21. Well, it should be moved to the off-topic forums, then. Got mod?
  22. Help Please

Post your requests in the Modding forums. There are official request threads.
  23. Anduin Valley Revisited

I'm still confused on how to make a lot actually transit-enabled. I've tried and tried but I still can't drag my networks onto the lot to create an entrance.

  25. Is this demand normal?

I would say that roads would be your main problem. Your residents will have to get to work, but if you build a store in the boonies, nobody will visit it. A shot of some of the zones where you're having development problems would be helpful.
