  1. Simtropolis Surpasses 500,000 Members

I have to admit, I am not terribly active But sometimes I drop by to say hello to the chat room!
  2. Maxis doing an AMA (as me anything) on Reddit

@Epilef the game will be very moddable. Because it is 3D, you'll be able to change the lighting.
  3. Found another upload: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vCZUrPIudCU Loving the fisheye and tilt shift lens filters! Hopefully those effects will make it into the final product!
  4. Hi Fsx_Trainz, You need to install Simcity 4 using the original installer for the SimMars Launcher to correctly detect SimCity 4. -Jeff
  5. Population 7 Billion

I don't mean to be heartless, but people generate massive amounts of income to the country until they retire. The best time for people to become deathly allergic to everything is the day of their retirement. That way, when they die, they don't collect any pension, and any saved funds are taxed when transferred (depending on country of course). Countries don't want working people to die. Another thought, thanks to our dependence on monetary amounts. Archologies are going to be expensive. I wouldn't be surprised to see countries buying other countries out to pool up more funds.
  6. Wow! I didn't think that I would have won a trixie, I'm just doing what I like to do! Thank you for the nominations! And thanks to Andisart for keeping me in line and pushing the project forward! Andisart: Yes, i'll work on the next launcher as soon as I get back.. I know i said i would do it like 3 weeks ago lol! My bad...
  7. Do you have any tools that are looking at any plutogins or music? They could be blocking the launcher from moving the directories around.
  8. Originally posted by: banshee3359 Good morning everyone. I've followed this mod for some time, and just recently downloaded and installed the beta 3 release on my home comp and my laptop. However, it will not run for me what-so-ever. When I run the launcher, it will run in task manager, but it will just shutdown with no error messages after a few seconds. The only problem I can potentially see is that I am running the Steam version of SC4D. Any help would be most appreciated, and please let me know if you need more information. Thanks! -banshee3359quote> Hmm, Good catch! Steam is pretty.. different when it comes to Steam Store-bought games. I'll have to investigate how to make it work with it. Worst case scenario, I can't make it reliably launch Simmars from within Steam and I'll simply add a toggle to enable/disable Simmars.
  9. @Evillions, ensure that Plugins_Backup_Simmars is empty, and delete it. If it isn't empty, move the contents to the Plugins folder if you wish before deleting it. This is a residual symptom from a bug that was fixed prior to the release of SimMars Beta 3.
  10. WOW. when i first read that, I actually thought you were losing your job! I was feeling sympatheic.. somehow everyone els eknew where you worked, because noone asked and offered suggestions "try attracting.. jobs?" "..beta?" Anywho, Office workers go hand-in-hand with Industrial (the managers, accountants, etc). If your industrial isn't doing too well, your office workers won't either. Proximity to Industrial and Residential is a factor too. Keep them not too far, but not too close either. Try it in a triangle! In my city, I had a BIIIG circle, 6 lanes one direction, going around and accessing all three zones. Looks epic, and it worked quite well. Now.. if only I could have a "NASCAR" lane!
  11. Simtropolis Beta Key Giveaway!

the NDA is signed when the key is entered into the cities xl site, not when the key is received. I think we're in the clear for boasting that we have a key .. But we can't say anything about anything we see PAST THAT POINT
  12. Simtropolis Beta Key Giveaway!

Poor Dirk... I'm sure people will hunt anyway, to keep in spirit! Go Canada! edit: 200th post! ... in 6 years. THAT IS SAD LOL
  13. Simtropolis Beta Key Giveaway!

    Yup! I used pcgames.de! wooot!
  14. cities XL site down?

Are those new vids? I know that they are a compilation, with a few new clips here and there, but are the videos themselves new? Maybe its a relaunch to make the online beta features visible!
  15. My Journey to Paris

Hey Dirk, and everyone! Ask 'em if they plan to include the following: Ability to omit certain songs Ability to use custom Mp3s Theres nothing like playing "Untouched" or "Maglev" while just taking in the awesome cityscape! Thanks!
  16. I remember the days of the BETA 1. I made the installer that was published. There was a bug in the original, and the authoer was unavailable. Good times... That was just over 4 years ago.
  17. Upside down avatar day

    This'll be fun!
  18. Hey guys, Several years ago began development on an application that allowed people to share a region and play it online together. It reached beta status (you can play, most functionality is there), but i became busy with other projects (mostly making music for Simmars). Well, i have some time now to hopefully complete this thing. I'll post more details at my development site, kiwistamp.com. Why did I stop? I got stuck at being able to view binary data in the city files. I'll skip that over for now, so people can at least start playing online. So, the question is, would you like to play Simcity Online? Note for web admins: You'll only need an ftp site, and an application to manage users (i'll give that to you). IRC may be added later, if i get enough response for it. (I moved this to the discussion board because it seemed more to the tune of that. I'm not requesting a mod, I'm getting feedback)
  19. Simcity4Online..

Cool! When i finish my current project (Coggr internal name), I'll get going on that! I'll post updates here.
  20. Your Favorite Dimension Of SimCity...

My favorite aspect (although was never fully realized in simcity 4) was to have a city in a valley, with winding roads around mountains to get to the remote town. Another aspect i loved (in sc4 vanilla) was the ability to directly follow a car from home to work and vice versa. Unfortunately, this was taken out of Rush Hour... and the various automatta mods havent 100% fixed the issue . Oh well, i love realism, and having the city skyline put in with various landscapes.
  21. How long have you owned SC4?

I followed it development starting 1 year prior to its release, and bought it the day it came out. It wasnt on the shelves, but i found a copy in a shipping box . The fastest computer i could play it on was a friend's, 500mhz. Played crazy slow. I suppose that i stopped playing partially due to me never really finding a computer that could sustain a large city (my p4 2.8 ghz ht, ati 9800 would start chugging at 300,000), and the strict grid. Then i picked up City life, and played more of that than the last year of sim city. My favorite thing to do would be to make mountain-top towns, and valley cities. But due to the grid, it really held me back. We all know that SCC won't scratch that itch, but City Life 2 is much much closer to that. Inside, i still cry for the ultimate city simulator (kill the grid!)
  22. Calm Down Folks Read this :)

When i looked at that first shot... the first thing that came to my head was "wow... those vehicles are more detailed than SC:S' vehicles! They must've been thinking WAY too ahead of their time! The plan was laid out all along!" I agree with the head poster though, Simcity needs a bit of a break, in terms of complexity. It's like the series scooped up all these fans, since the classic. EA may have just decided to scoop up more fans in SC:S because it's simpler, and then bump up the complexity in the next iteration. Or even just have a different franchise all together, Simcity Societies 2, 3, etc, alongside Simcity 5, 6, etc. Anywho, right now i am having tons of fun in city life! 23. SimCity 3000 (Unlimited) appreciation thread!

Me, being a music enthusiast/compose, absolutely LOVE the music! I actually managed to decode the music files to .wav (the extra ones not available from simcity.com's website). My favorite song is Desert.
  24. Cities Unlimited

I was like most other people, staying beside Simcity to the end, but since the announcement of the direction of the next iteration of Simcity, I became more open to try this other, much smaller franchise... So, for those of you who havent gotten the game City Life: World Edition... GET IT!!! It's only 30 bucks CAD! Its avaiable on Steam! There's NO EXCUSE! Even though the UI is a bit clunky (and so, the controls), the game itself is very fun! I understand that this game was sort of a test to see if a market existed, so they didnt put TOO much time into refining the final product (some missing building descriptions, lack of FPS controls in camera mode), but seriously... the gameplay is FUN! The goal orientated gameplay actually makes me WANT to make my city bigger (there are different medals based on attributes on your city), and having those multi-angled roads makes my downtown VERY unique (imagine Winnipeg's downtown). Kudos to Monte Cristo for doing a fantastic job on a modest budget! I just canNOT wait till the next one! I'll be buying it on launch day!
  25. My Gamertag is The Stamp (with a space) edit: My favorite games are Boom Boom Rocket, GH2, GoW, Halo2, and more!
