im very happy with the speed of the new STEX, but it is kinda a pain in the butt that even if im already logged in, i have to log in again when i access the STEX. its not a huge deal, but it does deserve to be mentioned

i agree with Celebane, the best way to accomplish what you want is use chicago and new york tilesets and get all the high wealth commercial and residential, then take away all their parks, plazas, civics, etc. Maybe even zone a few high density areas so you can get those ugly, but realistic big box ghetto projects. i like the idea and cant wait to see this cj

A little advice from a sim know-how, if you please.
ten1902 replied to son of Jorrell's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
the update from Maxis should take automatically...if youre not sure if it took, go back to the Maxis site, check the update and see what version it says you are using...if it does not recognize the latest patch, the reinstall it -
SG, its been a long time since ive had a dependency problem with one of your lots(you document everything so well), but im obviously missing something in your Hanson Hosiery Mills. ive downloaded all of the listed dependencies, so im not sure what i could be missing. please take a look at the pic(which hopefully posted) and let me know what i need. thx, ten1902

I would suggest people delete their plugin folder and get all the bats and props along with modds. Now I just backup the plugin folder to a dvd. this is helpful in the event I have to redo my pc.quote> this is always sound advice. always back up your plugins and regions too. dvds arent exactly the cheapest medium to use, but back it up to whatever suits your tastes/wallet. -
i just upgraded my RAM from 640 to 1gig and now i get an "out of range" message when i load SC4. i uninstalled/reinstalled the game and it ran fine at lower resolutions, but when i set it for the highest(1600x1200 i think is the highest setting) i got the out of range message again. the game had been working fine at that setting prior to the RAM upgrade, so i have no idea whats up. any help would be mucho appreciated. oh yeah, i almost forgot: pentium 4 2.0ghz nvidia geforce 5500 256mb 640mb RAM (works fine) 1024mb RAM (doesnt work fine)

first, thank you for all of your well intentioned help. however, i finally did what i should have done in the first place: i took out the 512 and replaced it with the original 128. then i uninstalled my video card and reinstalled the original. i then put the 512 back in and reinstalled my good video card, updated the drivers, and ta-da!!! everything is working fine now. the only thing i can guess is that when i put the RAM in originally, i must have somehow bumped the video card out of whack just enough so that i wouldnt get the best resolution. thank yall again and would a mod please close this hideous chapter of me not doing the simple stuff first. Locked as requested

The problem is that SC4 doesn't allow us to make those kind of road angles. quote> do you have the NAM, if not download it when its available, although it doesnt allow full circular roads, it does allow diagonal streets. used with a little creativity, they can make a very realistic suburb.

Originally posted by: bigredk001 I tried a Road-top Mass Transit mod, and even though there was extensive documentation on all the various options, after spending over an hour reading through the documentation, and deciding which options I wanted to use, I got brown packages when I started to place them. I ended up deleting the mod, as I didn't want to spend anymore time on it. The one I was using was RTMT 3.10 made by Cogeo. How many RTMT mods are there? Which is the best to use?quote> i dont know for sure withou checking STEX(which i cant do now for obvious reasons) how many different RTMT mods there are, but i know why all you got were brown boxes: you were missing dependencies! i am using RTMTV3, and i cant find my documentation(ie. readme files) so i dont know exactly who made this mod, but i do remember an extensive list of of bus stops and such that were dependencies, so maybe go back and check out which ones you need once STEX re-opens. While RTMT doesn't require as much pre-planning as the normal bus/subway stations, you still need to ensure that you don't accidently cut off road access for some lots.quote> dont forget that lots only need 1 square of road access. meaning a 2x2 lot can have 1 of its road accessed squares blocked, as long as another has direct access to the street. and as far as i know it doesnt necessarily have to be the front of the building either. edit i found the readme for my RTMT and it is made by cogeo, the same one you downloaded, so i suggest reinstalling it and downloading all of the dependencies(yes there are quite a bit, but its worth it)

it might be a hoax, but something as potentially harmful as a new virus is caps worthy, IMHO thx for the heads-up

paiste13 once the entire site is up and running you will be able to browes the STEX and you should find a plethora of suburban single family homes with which you can create an almost limitless variety of neighborhoods. also you need to get you hands on NAM(Network Addon Mod), which will be available once all the site remodeling is done hope that helps, welcome to ST, and enjoy my 100th post!!!!

i checked pny.com/configurator before buying the RAM to make sure that my board would recognize it, and my board will take up 1gig RAM, which is all that i have. and as far as it being compatible, everything else works fine, so i must assume that its compatible. i understand that there should not be any correlation between adding RAM and graphic issues, but like i stated earlier the only change made to my pc was the addition of RAM, i hadnt even installed any new programs before installing the RAM, that is why this whole scenario is very confusing to me
-
thank you all for your help, but no one seems to be reading my problem correctly: THE ONLY THING THAT CHANGED IN MY ENTIRE SYSTEM WAS THE ADDITION OF RAM. i changed no setting, that means no refresh rate, no resolution settings, NO NOTHING!!! everything is working fine except sc4. i can run sc4 at lower resolutions, but not at the resolution i was able to play it at before the RAM upgrade.
-
i dont think that any civ game will compare to civ2, just based on the newness of it all, but i think civ4 is overall a great game, and i love the addition of religions, it adds another cultural aspect(which was my favorite addition in civ3). my only real complaint about the game is that its not as east to mod as earlier versions. civ3 even came with the mod program, which added unlimited styles of play.
-
i doubt that the problem stems from the new RAM, however, prior to the additional RAM upgrade i was able to run the game under ALL settings, now i cannot run it at the highest resolution. the game runs fine otherwise, and i havent had any issues with anyother games/programs. it is only SC4, and only the highest resolution that will not work, and as i stated earlier, it worked fine before installing the RAM
-
i dont see how my card could be running out of memory? its the same 256mb video card that worked fine before i upgraded the RAM
-
there are also roadtop bus/subway stops available on the STEX, which i use for two reasons: 1) they look more realistic, and 2) they dont require and pre-planning, as far as leaving spaces is concerned. once STEX is up and running do a search for the roadtop mass transit, it might help with your pre-planning

Desirability and parks! They dont work?
ten1902 replied to bleakstyle's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
one question...are you using neighboring cities as well as the main one? if you are using neighboring cities you might want to play them for a little while everytime you add/subtract from your main city. ive found that keeping all surrounding cities on a relatively similar calendar helps everything grow evenly...i dunno why that is, i just have noticed thats how it seems to work(at least for me) -
What are the perimeter and area measurements of individual tiles and...
ten1902 replied to chomusclavus's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
just FYI 100,000 miles is about 4 times around the earth at the equator, so i dont think SC4 is equipped to handle a city/region 4 times the size of our planet!!!! -
High-tech industry in an Industry-only city?
ten1902 replied to Aurabolt12's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
in a word...YES it is possible to have I-HT in an industry only city...all you need to do is meet the criteria normally needed for I-HT > well educated sims(in a neighboring city is fine), low crime, low water/air pollution, and a couple parks wouldnt hurt either. -
Desirability and parks! They dont work?
ten1902 replied to bleakstyle's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
a couple things to consider are: 1) do you have enought civics that R$$$ sims need to thrive, such as schools, hospitals, etc. 2) are there enough $$$ jobs for your sims, ie. CO$$$,CS$$$, I-HT 3) are there any NIMBY buildings in the vicinity of these distressed building -
How can i fix this ? (bug at oneway/avenue road)
ten1902 replied to Neotrezz's topic in NAM & Transit Networks
i think what he did was take a one-way road and have it intersect with the avenue, then used simgoobers trails to make it look like a real ped crossing
